Dark (305)Fog (6)Einarus (10)paper route (1)creepy (26)eerie (12)slibble-whop (1)
Description:
Wrote the poem over a year ago and it's really just about how unreal it felt to be forced to wake up at ungodly hours on a saturday to do my paper route.
A couple of days ago I decided to do another spoken word track - but a little bit darker and eerier than my previous one.
Hope that shines through.

©2006 - Einar Sverrir Tryggvason

Lyrics:

Which roughly translates to:

Every saturday I wake up in another world.
A dark, cold, silent world.
A chilled, gray and raspy voice welcomes me.
I'm a messenger.

Feet are useless here.
You float above the streets.

Nobody lives here, but yet there are houses everywhere.
I hover up to the houses and look through the mail slots in search of life.
Nothing lives but the darkness and the sound of the paper.

After one failed search after another I return.
The street is probably cold, but I'm unable to tell.
The voice says goodbye and I go home.

Home to the warm down.

Dark... &mdash 07/02/06 - 12:57:18 PM
... refreshingly so. The poem turns things on their side just enough to be
tantalizing - and hearing Icelandic is always cool. ;) Your voice sounds
really REALLY good with your new microphone.
Everything blends so well - from the words to the effects to that neat-o
bass.

One to listen to on my predawn walks. :)

evocative and powerful &mdash 07/02/06 - 01:23:59 PM
You continue to suprise me. The music merges effortlessly with the voice. The choice of instruments and rhythm are flawless and create a very successful backdrop for the recitation. Sounds much easier than it is, but you are really good at that! I could have listened to this for much longer! The lyrics are quite fascinating, The lyrics are evocative and powerful, that sense of going about a routing semi-consciously when you're the only soul awake. Eerie, yes, but also with a sense of peace. Very interesting stuff, Ein! Thanks for sharing.

eerie mood &mdash 07/02/06 - 03:54:31 PM
Einar - you sure have a way with words! Not the meaning, because I
don't have a clue what you're saying, but in terms of setting an eerie
mood, there's not much that compares. I still find Icelandic strangely
familiar. On the nit side, it's too short - could have easilly taken
another few minutes of maybe just instrumental.
This is very cool Einar.

The word is a sound. &mdash 07/03/06 - 06:39:35 AM
Einar,
Your word is a voice, and the music scale.
A beautiful sound is like the aurora.

Love the Spoken part. You have a great voice. The music was dark and
appropiate. very well balanced.

You took me back &mdash 07/03/06 - 01:35:36 PM
It was a dark cold and silent world, but it was also, scary - When I lived in Los Angeles., I rode the back of my uncle's bike as we blasted through the streets of L.A. at 5: and 6:a.m delivering the LA times - Oh my god, I was scarred shitless, but I do recall that silent dead world that you have depicted here so well, E. Before I forget again, I have to mention how deeply rich your voice is - It kinda rattles my soul on this particular piece - It didn't matter the language, I was immediately there, and purely by cadence and vocal inflections. You had just enough of what was needed in accompaniment, but I do have to register my personal complaint on this one - I felt like it was just a little bit too short - It was a long and hellish bike ride for me, mind you. And I can recall that it seemed like a few life times had passed by for while experiencing this seeming, life threatening moment - I Always feared that we were gonna crash a near-death bang-up, but was gonna be there to find us... However as I'm spewing my story, I'm realizing that that was my experience and not yours, so the length of this piece is just fine - Thanks for the travels, E - Dion

Love the Spoken poetry. The music was dark and
lovely at the same time. LOove the piano. I don't understand a word but I read the translation..:) Great work

I feel the cold &mdash 07/04/06 - 01:03:24 PM
and I feel the loneliness. A very neat soundscape. And what a beatiful language (I do recognise a bit of Flemish in it - my mother tongue). Took me far from here for two minutes - which by the way was very welcome with more than 30C right now (haha). Very very well done Einar.

einar - you have really done soo well with the voice thing and the spooky sounds in the background work very well too - it was neither pink nor fluffy but... it ended too soon - lovely to see your work continuing to develop in such interesting ways - xoxo

I used to find my paper round surreal as well... &mdash 07/07/06 - 05:04:26 PM
...but that's largely because I always have hated getting up early and so it
was an unfamiliar time of day. It's great that you can take something
quite mundane and turn it into such emotionally charged poetry. You've
done a great job with the accompaniment as well - there's a great sense
of depth.

PS - did you used to deliver papers on Elm Street?

i can feel this, since once long ago ago i delivered magazines, and i knew,
more and more each day, that no one cared.

this is very eery and compelling - i like the unconnectedness. modren life

Ominous &mdash 07/07/06 - 07:19:08 PM
This was quite different. Love the lyrics to it. It reminds me of waking up while it was still dark to go to school when I was in high school. The intro with the heart was awsome, and then your voice with the echo and reverb created just the right atmosphere.
Very cool, thanks for sharing!

this song is very chilling. I would like to also hear this done in English.
The German is quite refreshing. I'm assuming it's German. Nice job and
thanks for sharing.

This isn't German, actually - it's Icelandic :)
German is a bit more 'vulgar', as it were - especially the 'r' sounds.
Anyway - thanks for listening!

Yeeeeah &mdash 07/08/06 - 11:55:16 AM
There's so much right about this. First of all, you have a nice voice, and Icelandic is so completely foreign to me that it's just intriguing to listen to. The mood is very compelling, enhanced by the heartbeat, and the fog-deadened drumbeat, plus the long eerie tones that waver through the air. Awesome!

This is super cool! I am DIGGING this! I love the instrumentation!

Of course, hearing the lyrics in... what is it? Icelandic? Very cool for me,
since I can't understand a word! Ha! But, what a great voice! Yummy!

It takes me on a journey, and I don't know where I'm headed, but I'll go
freely!
