Hey Rich... this is great... If Randy Newman could actually sing (not
that he can't get a song across) this is where he would land... this is
definatly live playing, right?... tell us more about the recording
process... what did you use for recording.... software, studio... this is a
very traditional arrangement, and you have a great voice... be prepared
for the BLUES factor... blues, for some reason get less attention and
lower scores... so here is a blues booster for ya

Hey Scott.. Thanks for sharing this site with me last week. I see alot can happen in a week. This site is definitely dynamic. After listening to some of your songs and as I prepare to check out some of the songs of other writers on this site I see that there are more than a few technically savy songwriters and engineer types here in Macjamland. I'm embarassed to say that this song was recorded on an old Alesis ADAT. I just let the tape role and then manually sent all 8 tracks, one at a time, into Cakewalk through a Roland UA100. I manually synced the tracks (what a pain) and manually mixed the tracks as best I could (sorry that the drums were not loud enough) and sent the final mix to an MP3 file. Truth is at best I'm a songwriter.who loves the Lord. I know a little about PCs and nothing about mastering or engineering. Maybe I'll pick some helpfull hints up from the folks on this site. In closing I have a confession to make. There is not a Mac in the house and I don't know a whole lot about "Garage Band" Ouch!!! . I hope my Macless state is not grounds for eviction. One of the best songs i've heard on Macjams. I love jazz and blues.
Did you write this? I think your voice as great as it is already,would sound
really good if you held some notes with some vibrato on the end, (if you
know what i mean) but well done. I love it!

Thank you.. I wonder how impressive my voice would be if Randy hadn't paved the way. Anyway there are more songs to post and most of them will be blues and jazz (at least to start). That's my roots. Everybody on this track really smokes. The drums however are to far
back in the mix. Bringing them forward would drive the feel and puctuate
the nice accents that are happening in the tune.
High marks on the subject matter too. Thanks.

That's funny. The drummer on this track said the same thing. But I took the source into consideration. After all this suggestion on the mix was coming from someone who spends half an hour tuning his the drums and then actually thinks it sounds better/different when he's finished. Thanks. I agree. The track was performed live and it sounds it. That's not to minimize what is done in the studio. I'm impressed by some of the productions I've heard here at Macjam. Perhaps that is something I'll have the opportunity to explore in the future. [ Reply to This ]
