Malted Milk - Take 3 (Collaboration w/gudKarma & mstuartev)

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
Gudkarma did a really cool version of Malted milk blues, he invited me and Mstuartev to come and play, and both of us independently did. I wa sfixing to post mine when his went up, and was going to let it pass, but Alimar convinced me to see what the versions were like merged, so here's my "take" combined w/ both of the previously available versions. Hopefully it doesn't step on the other stuff too much, it's kinda like a couple o' guys from the delta moved up to Chicago and picked up a couple players. This was simply a combination of the independent efforts that Mstuartev and I made at working w/ Gudkarma's original take. I shoulder all blame for anything amiss in this version.

challenges of multi-collaboration
I like this combination of guitar textures; you were very
sensitive to the other tracks and didn't add too much.

This is the first sort of "multi-collaboration" piece I've
heard here on MacJams, so please take my comments with
a grain of salt! But my first impression is that it's not quite
together because the three of you aren't sitting in the
same room, combining your musical energies on the spot.
To me, this song sounds a bit diffused, not quite in synch
because of the long-distance collaboration, and also
because of the nature of the sort of "free-form" blues licks
which are very challenging to lock into.

Maybe that's okay though.....this piece certainly has a nice
combination of sounds; good individual performances by
all parties involved.

challenges of multi-collaboration
i'd like to comment on that not in synch part.......its because i have zero
rhythm abilities. i play with a free form flowing beat in my head...so its realy
hard for them to follow.
: )

in their defense.

Collaboration Considerations
Ka-klick --
I'd like to hear the take of just you and Gudkarma as well. I think every musical grouping and collaboration will be different. I think there are times when multi-layered instrumental/'guitars work well (e.g. southern rock bands with 3 guitars playing dueling leads or shadowed lines); other times simplicity is called for. Regardless, ya never know until you try, and that is what it going on here.

Gudkarma: don't apologize for your phrasing and timing. It's what it is. It was a challenge for me, doing the understated slide noodling inthe background... but as loing as I held the slide note an extra beat or two, I could stay on the timing of your vocals/guitar.

All in all... it's what is happening... part of a new way of making music -- online collaboration. whether it works or not is to be seen

Collaboration Considerations
OK, here's a version w/o bass (gud was convincing me to ditch it) before I
"merged" it: Malted Milk (no Bass)---
Beauty should be edible, or not at all.

Interesting
There are bits that I really like here (there is a swirling
chord in the background towards the end), I also think it
gets better as it progresses. When you go from bass to
lead it works better, I reckon. The bass needs more of a
set beat whereas the lead is freer.

But again a fascinating collab. Well done

My fav. Of the 4
This is my favorite of the 4 versions so far. I like the slide
and the bass fills out the sound. No-one is walking over
anyone. This makes it a great collaboration. Amazing
technology that enables this distance jam thing. It might
be harder to play slow than fast, and make it swing. This
works. Great vocal performance. I like the rhythm guitar.
