Description:
Did you ever write a song on "one of those days? When your kids think you're the meanest parent on Earth, you can't seem to do anything right, and you want to escape to someplace far, far, away? Well, I wrote this on one of those days. I guess this is a self pity song; hence, the fake violins.
Lyrics:
I've got too much time on my hands
Time can breed introspection
Well, it looks like I messed up again
Now I need the Lord's intervention
Chorus
Bring me home, bring me home,
Let me be free
I've had enough of this place
Bring me home, bring me home
Give me comfort
Or just let me look at your face
I'm alone with people, and lonely alone
All this small talk is just noisy chatter
All I ask is redemption
for the ones I have carried
and as for me, not much else matters
Chorus
I'm weary of failure
Of doing my own thing
and thinking it's You that I hear
Help me to listen
to the Lord who has risen
When I'm in His will there is no fear
Let me hear.....
Chorus

tugging at the violin heartstrings &mdash 07/08/06 - 04:03:35 PM
Very nicely arranged song, and as usual, your really pretty voice and
great harmonies... also, some good guitar work too (given that you just
started practicing guitar again!)... alas, your children have taken over
your whole house, and only allow you to record in the broom closet.
What happened with that cool new microphone? The vocal recording
sounds rather muffled. It might be that you had the gain up too high
and you were too far from the microphone, so it picked up some
boomy room echo? Not sure, but the overall mix sounded midrange-
heavy and boomy, not much clarity. But aside from production, I liked
the lyrics and songwriting... especially the little upturn on the last word
(e.g. "intervention"). This is worthy of re-recording to get the guitar
and vocals clearer!

tugging at the violin heartstrings &mdash 07/08/06 - 06:20:55 PM
Thank you for your kind comments and syggestions. :-) Hmmm... How can I
fix it? The vocals were set to 0.0, the guitars to -3.8, the violins to -20.5, and
the mic was about 4 inches away. I used the AuMatrix Reverb and the wet/dry
mix set to 10. What can I do to make it clearer, anybody??

...drak pointed this out in chat, otherwise I would've missed this for sure.
This sounds very lovely - especially your vocal harmonies. They're really
excellent.
I agree with drak about the muffleness of the recording, but it still
sounded very nice.
Lovely track, indeed.

A piece of your heart... &mdash 07/08/06 - 07:40:57 PM
raw, honest, and open to all... It is indeed difficult in much of life... the
ones we love, the misunderstandings, the wrongheadedness we have,
often thinking we are on track. God is gracious. And your song is a
beautiful picture... like a psalm, no hedging, just out there.

A piece of your heart... &mdash 07/08/06 - 07:45:16 PM
and by the way... yes, I have days like you describe... more often than I wish.
Moments to redirect my heart and life in terms of what it means to love
another and no take myself so seriously.
Beautiful singing, Roxy. Lovely lyrics.

A piece of your heart... &mdash 07/09/06 - 04:41:26 AM
That's it, Jack- we tend to take ourselves too seriously and expect too much
from ourselves -and others. I almost didn't post this song, but then I said to
myself "Self, surely they will understand that you don't really wanna die; we
all have days like this, don't we?" I have my joyful days, and my days of
feeling like By Now I Should Be Smarter Than This. Thank you for listening to
my heart's cry behind the words, and for sharing your feelings in your
comment. I'm glad you liked the song. :-)

Too far away &mdash 07/09/06 - 07:56:37 AM
from the mic, that is. :-) I think you should be close to the mic, especially
since you now have a commercial pop filter on it. However, the lyrics,
melody, and your voice are tops as usual.
May God bless you and keep you,
Rick

Thank you, Rick. :-) I need more practice with the new mic, and maybe I
shouldn't mess with the effects. I'm looking forward to hearing your next
song! :-)

Inspiring &mdash 07/10/06 - 09:08:25 AM
Excellent melody, classic construction, solid writing. Your voice needs
more presence, to feel more intimate, more in the room. It would help the
emotional quality, which is there in the performance, but there is a
blanket over the sound that keeps the listeners at arms length. Wonderful
writing. Also, when working with MIDI strings, consider using solo strings,
playing each line separately, and panning the notes, to get a more
realistic feel. [ Reply to This ]
Inspiring &mdash 07/10/06 - 03:03:02 PM
Thak you, Tobin. I tried to copy-paste the instrumental tracks into another
GB, so I could redo the vocals, but at playback, no sound came out. Anyone
know why? Thank you for listening and for your constructuve suggestions,
which I will try on future compositions. :-)

Familiar feelings &mdash 07/10/06 - 11:28:25 AM
Wow. You nailed it here Rox. I seem to have had a lot of these days this
past month. Paradoxically, this tune provides some of the comfort it cries
out for!

Yayyyy, you're back!!! :-) Thank you, Mike. I'm glad the song didn't come
across as all pity party. <G> I guess it helps to know that others have days
like that, too.

This is a really nice song. Your harmonies make it and the chorus is
very catchy. I love the honesty and authenticity of your writing. I also
appreciate you not beating the religious message over my head. I
think it's a very sweet song, with a sweet melody and a thoughtful plea. [ Reply to This ]

Thank you ver much, Kelli. I didn't know about your music until you
commented and I'll go listen soon. I'm glad you liked my plea song. We pray,
we cry, and we write our angst while we wait for the peace to come. God is
good. Thank you for listening. :-)

the chorus harmonies were beautiful.

when I read your discription &mdash 08/30/06 - 11:00:36 PM
I had to smile cause I think I know how you feel in a way.
I know with kids some can be pretty indepeendent others might be a
tad (or more) insecure thus requiring a bit more nurturing. The tough
part is when the come back into the empty nest. House prices are so
high were we live that it is very tough for kids always to be on their
own. So anyway, I just want to say though it is a sad song in a way. I
think it is a great release for a singer who is a parent:) I don't know
your trials, but when I think I have it tough I look at some of Dr. Phil's
patient-quests and I don't feel so bad :)
Hey, any I want to thank as well for stopping by some of my tunes! Plus
I really enjoyed the tune!

Wow, they fixed the reply thing! Yeah, I have the kids coming back so I
can make them lunch every day, watch the grandbaby etc. It's nice to
see them, but after raising 4 kids, sometimes I just want the house to
myself! I was also going through somethingl when I got this song and
it just wrote itself. For me, singing it out helps. Thank you for listening
and for your thoughtful comment. :-) [ Reply to This ]
praise! &mdash 10/01/06 - 05:38:58 AM
I would definitely re-record this song, it resolves itself into a lovely chorus although I would change the "Give me comfort" line to "Bring comfort to me" to give it that other rhyme. You need to consider the room you're recording in, a small room will always sound like a small room regardless of the effects and the quality of the equipment. This is too good a song to compromise. I love your harmonies and it's a very accessible song.

If i get ambitious enough, I may redo this one, at the risk of losing the feeling
I had when I recorded it. The sound was muffled and i really should fix it.
Thanks for listening and for your nice comments. :-)

Gorgeous harmonies... &mdash 11/27/06 - 07:56:58 PM
...and a great tune as well. I feel that you do yourself a disservice with the way your vocals appear in the mix - I think they would benefit from being more forward. Something else which might help would be to double up the vocal line once recorded putting a slightly different timbre on each to give a richer sound.
Lovely work tho' [ Reply to This ]
Thank you :-) &mdash 11/29/06 - 06:17:37 AM
Yeah, I knew nothing about recording, and I'm lhopefully learning with each song. People said to redo this, but I don't think the same emotions would be there. I'll take your suggestions for future recordings. Thank you for stopping by and for your advice. :-)

This song made me very sad. I am so sorry if I ever made you feel so down that you wished you were "home". I love you. The song is pretty, lyrics are depressing. [ Reply to This ]

No way did you ever do anything to make me that sad!!! No, no, no, my baby. I think we all get in moods where we want the Earth to stop so we can get off. Fortunately, thse are just moments that pass quickly. My moments like this have nothing to do with you beautiful girls of mine. ps- i'm Happt, see? <GRIN> :-)

and I am sure you know yours didn't. However, at the time
they try to put you on a gult trip. :) Anyhow I downloaded it,
