Lyrics
The price we have to pay

Was there ever a time to be on your own
Or a better time to be free
Between them and us or between you and me
There’s no link that I can see
Just disillusion endlessly

Did you ever belong, was your commitment that strong
Did you feel like a cog in a wheel
Of that well-oiled machine, were you really that keen
To give your all each day
So why not walk away today

If I’m acting quite strange I apologise
But I’m trying my best to make sense
Of a moment in time that felt so intense
Yet I cannot find the way
That’s the price we have to pay

(Guitar break)

So I’ll be on my way now, you’ve heard quite enough
And you probably made up your mind
A long time ago, when you wanted to know
But I was lost for words to say
It’s just the price I have to pay

This was fun to listen to
Like this style, good use of instrumentaion. Like the two guitar duets on
each side of the ear phones.
Your singing has a lot of style. Cool strummin, percussion and bass fits
in nice for my ears. Cool ending!

WAy to go

Classic writing
Classic writing. Excellent tune and very strong lyrics. The vocals have an
open mic karaoke feel, kind of tinny and distant, with a hint of metallic
flanging, almost like you recorded the vocals after they went thru guitar
speakers. I prefer a cleaner vocal sound (to match your really nice electric
guitar sounds (so present and clear). But a great tune and some really
nice lead.

thanks Tobin. I'm really having fun with this new persuit (for me) of putting together songs and lyrics and your words of support are much appreciated. I never quite manage to get the vocal sound I really want, mainly due to my vocal limitations I suspect. You were right about flanging on the vocals - the GB preset I used here did use this effect but my usb mike is connected directly to the laptop. I'll have a go at adjusting the EQ, adding some reverb and removing the flanging to try to warm it up.
cheers, phil

Born and bred in Liverpool and like most kids from that place got my first guitar as a young teenager (in the late 60s). I've been dabbling with a guitar or two ever since and couldn't imagine life without one. I've never had any musical training (pr... [see more]
