Description:
Every so often tunes just put into my head more or less fully formed and all I have to do is try and learn to play them. The tune (or really tunes) here happened in just such a way – I was stuck in a hot stuffy room on a hot close day, feeling a bit stressed when the melodies just flowed over me like a refreshing cool breeze…

Magical playing &mdash 07/12/06 - 06:08:36 PM
Gorgeous ... I love it. The way the notes bend so smoothly into their
pitches is a brilliant touch. So soulfully performed too. The jig-like
melody seems to just emerge from nowhere and float through it and
then waft out again.
Really masterful playing and a true piece of inspiration. [ Reply to This ]

It's amazing what the heat can do... &mdash 07/12/06 - 07:17:27 PM
and what making music can do to take your mind off of it. :) Sweet like
peppermint tea, as sure and light as a breeze and prone to free
wanderings, just as it should be eh? [ Reply to This ]

Thanks CJ - yes sometimes it's great to cut the click trak and just let the tune go
where it wants...

What a joy! &mdash 07/13/06 - 12:38:29 PM
Such refreshing and clear energy! Immediately made me feel better. Isn't it great when music can do that?! And if I had to imagine you playing that song, I would rather imagine a beautiful landscape like you have as photo, rather than a small room! There is no trace of restlessness and the melody just flows effortlessly. Had to listen to it a few times. Thanks a lot for sharing. Also reminded me that the impact of listening to a live performance is just so much more immediate than computer programming! Inspiring... [ Reply to This ]

Thank you P - I'm really glad you found it uplifting. I've often been surprised
when I've come across an album which I imagined was record in the depths of
the English countryside only to find it was recorded in somewhere like LA!

great passion &mdash 07/13/06 - 12:57:42 PM
This tune leads me right to the Highlands. Virtuosity and emotion, a rare combination, but you got it for sure. This is just wonderful, beatiful. Thanks so much for this song.

Hi Moorlandt - thanks for listening and commenting. Yes there is something of
a Highland air about this.

Simply beautiful &mdash 07/14/06 - 03:19:11 AM
There's a HUGE celtic music tradition here in Newfoundland, and I love
this kind of music. I love the little nuances you bring to the music, esp.
the little slides, which strike me as almost bluesy. When I heard this one
of my first thoughts was "it'd be fun to jam with that!" I am a folk/rock/
jazz guitarist who changed direction in my mid-twenties to study classical
music. Cheers. [ Reply to This ]
Simply beautiful &mdash 07/23/06 - 05:16:05 AM
Many thanks CC - yes my playing does get a little blues/jazz infused sometimes
(in fact those are both areas I want to explore more particularly as there seems
to be quite a strong blues fiddle legacy). If you want to dust off your guitar and
have a jam let me know...

fit song for a hot day &mdash 07/18/06 - 09:44:35 AM
Nicely imagined ... and nicely played.
You pull a number of different emotions out of those strings ... including a haunted sense of longing for a missed time and place.
Today in New York City it is unbearably hot, stuffy, humid, listless ... and this song plays fittingly on my headphones. [ Reply to This ]

...of Garnet Rogers' version of 'Carrickfergus', which he used on his first
album to lead into Archie Fisher's 'Final Trawl'... You're managing to pull
off being lilting and sad at the same time, and again that combination of
rosiny roughness and sweetness pleases the ears and tugs at the heart...
If you lived in my part of the world, you'd be over for tea or supper

Wow! I see that you've commented on a stack of my tracks - I'm very honoured!
I don't know Garnet Rogers (or Carrickfergus - truth be told) but I will endeavour
to check these out. Thank you for your kind comments - there's certain aspects
of playing I've been working on of late and you've kinda picked up on them.
Thanks also for the invitation to supper - I hope I'll be able to take you up on it
one day!

Man... &mdash 10/22/06 - 12:35:30 PM
Wow, sir, that went right to my soul - It washed over me too, but all I had to do was to get out of the way - Quite the heartfelt peice - Beautiful playing here - REALLY - I don't imagine that you had too much to learn to play this, as it sounds as if what you needed has always been there... And mostly, ya had to find out where you had it put away... This had to have been theraputic - Strikingly beautiful, my friend.
Thanks! Dion [ Reply to This ]
Therapy &mdash 10/22/06 - 05:53:37 PM
Yes it was strangely theraputic - cares just washed away (even if it was just
because my mind was focused on something more joyous for a while). Thank
you for your lovely comments.

You make your Violin cry and play so very beautiful, soft, and sweet. This one leaves me speechless. There are no words to describe the beauty on this melody.

Perfect night cap for me It's a foggy nght here and these notes are evoking someknd of cross between Fiddler on the Roof and an Irish bay. Your notes are not just notes, they are emotional. Sweet Dreams........Thanks for sharing this. [ Reply to This ]

I love it!
Sexy slides, and I love the way the jig just kind of appears without feeling at all jarring. It may take a while, but I have every intention of listening to every thing you have ever posted here. I am truly a fan!

Gorgeous. You play wonderfully. Has a gypsy sort of sound to it, along with the celtic. Just beautiful. Thank you. [ Reply to This ]
Hi Kassia &mdash 06/08/08 - 03:06:16 PM
Hadn't thought of this as having gypsy tendencies but that style of music is an influence on me (as is Klezmer) and listening again I do understand where you're coming from so it must have crept in without me noticing!
Thanks for giving an old tune a fresh hearing.
