it's cute. i think the "war" on the 2 or 4 bombers has been won and this is a fun way to celebrate. but i'd hate to have this be a macjams mascot sort of anthem song. it is a little too based in the negative. there are so many things about this site that are uplifting and great, supportive and inventive, and that work really well, that are worthy of praise and odes. including the Admin guys who are such great listeners and are so sensitive to commnunity needs. inside jokes have the potential of being sort of offputting, do you know what i mean? this song, in my personal and subjective musical opinion, is not nearly as strong as the top 60 songs on macjams, even though i like blues and humor, yet after 10 votes it is closer to perfect than any song on the site (most all which display more musical originality and higher production values). my favorite part of this track is Ringo's guitar solo, which appears in full in an earlier rippin' version over ka-klicks cool self-made loop. packosmoke is a clever artist and i really like his submissions, but his voice is mixed awfully loud here and doesn't really meld with the style. and the lyrics, while fun, still can't really rank with some amazing other lyrics i've listened to from other songs that rate much lower, many of which languish as diamonds in the rough. i realize i risk being black-balled for what may appear to be discouraging the enthusiasm of the United Jammers, but, guys... if one of the most important longterm solutions to bombing is getting more members to rate songs, voting 10s as a block may not be the best tactic. by the way, i do not wish to discourge joy on the webpages of macjams. but i view the rating system as something kind of sacrosanct. as it states in the macjams voting criteria: Please rate the song honestly. Do not overstate your rating merely to effect rankings. Respect the integrity of the Macjams' community.

I actually gotta' say I agree with Suzanne for the most part. It is a tongue
in cheek piece of work and I'm happy people are enjoying it! However, if
I were to come in and vote on this particular song, I wouldn't give it all
10s. I found it very funny while making it and its slowly slipping more
into a place where it belongs, but I certainly didn't want to see this song
beating out the like of "Sirens" or "Enter Tobin Mueller song title here"
heh!


I also believe in honest voting no matter what and I agree with Suzanne's
criticisms of the song. Although, it's probably better if you approach my
singing in the same vein as Weird "Al" Yankovic as I just don't have the
blues. I had the volume of my vocals rather high on this one as I wanted
people to be able to really hear the jokes I was delivering. :D However, if
this ends up my highest rated submission, I might end up with the
blues!!

This song is to be taken tongue-in-cheek. The cumulative
score will go down, and the song will leave the charts and
remain a personal statement in the archives of individual
voice. It IS healthy to state an oppinion, whether it be
voting high on this song or commenting to ease some of
the bad feelings that had developed. All is forgiven. I
believe the victims fealt their "voices" had to be heard.
Please take it with a grain of salt. Disturbing peaks need
comforting valleys, and then the musical "land" will even
out to become a safe place to express our true creativity
for the rest of our lives towards the sea of hope and
fraternity. I love this venue, and the members involved. I
hope to see harmony and unification creating an healthy
atmosphere where we ALL make wonderful music
together.

of course the song is tongue-in-cheek. i think the song is clever and cute. i'm not sure what you mean by the "song will leave the charts" ... when less victimized members vote with a more balanced mind? do you mean that the song is intended to be taken off the 'listen to songs' listing after you make your point? i hope not. i think the song is fun and deserves to stay in the line up. but if "venting" translates into manipulating the ratings for your own tongue-in-cheek ends, that is a different matter. (if there is a joke here, one wonders who it is on. those not in the know?) i love this venue as well. that is why i used the word "sacrosanct" and quoted the site's rating criteria (which nont only the bombers have violated); and suggested that the long term goal of more members voting can hardly be helped by blocks of people who are in the know rating things higher simply to make a point. but that's just my opinion. (and i've had a soar throat for 6 days and am simply cranky. )

My meaning behind "Leaving the charts", was that, it will eventually be out of
site as more songs are posted. Remaining in the archives and no longer in the
limelite. Nothing more. It would be rude of me to suggest it be removed
entirely. As time goes on, many more will be enlightened as to the meaning
of its content. As far as the voting went, I voted 10s. I am not ashamed of
that. Several members were effected severely during the blitz. And thanks to
our wonderful staff, balance has been achieved. At the time of voting (on any
song) I take into consideration a hidden criteria, emotion. Whether a song
makes me happy or sad, or angry, etc. plays an important role in my
methodology (takes a long breath). I guess its an occupational hazard of
being an artist (I've been told). So, in closing, I respect you with the utmost
sincerity, and meant nothing personal - to anyone in MacJammerland. True
friendship can withstand anything that happens to it.

just want to make a couple things clear before i leave this issue behind. there are over a dozen songs on macjams that could receive straight 10s from me without any qualms, due to surperior content, performances, creativity and emotional effect. maybe 2 dozen. this song, albeit fun and releasing, cannot compare to those gems, even though it does exactly what it intended to do: make us laugh and say "right on!". but when i first listened to it, it was rated about 9.4 after 10 votes, which made it rated the closest to perfect song on the site, probably garnering 8 or 9 straight 10 scores like yours. if "reverse bombers" act as a large group, they undermine the system just as a bomber do. i wanted to step up defend the ratings system, not deflate this song or its effect. the appropriate thing would have been to applaud and cheer and laugh, but still respect the system the song is trying to defend. (ok, i'm done now. go macjams. go music. go collaborative ecstasy.) (btw, the definition of ecstacy: a state of being beyond reason and self-control... :)

You GO, pack! You expressed very well what has been on
my mind over the past month since I've joined MacJams.

I agree that this song is "tongue in cheek", but
nonetheless, the sentiments expressed are important to
share. It provides a sort of "release", and its high ratings
match the high level of feeling connected with putting
your songs out there, then having them disappear quickly.
This can be frustrating.

Perhaps ratings are not always about the highest quality
of a song, but can also reflect the dynamics of this
particular Internet Community at this one instant of time.

This too shall pass.

At the same time, I do agree wholeheartedly with
Suzanne's desire to give more MacJams songs fair
hearings and appropriate ratings. I wish there were a
better voting system, but am not sure what that would be.

I do think that if a song is voted on, that comments be
required. Some songs have multiple "plays" and even
downloads, yet often times no-one makes comments!
