Description:
Another in the series of Shakespeare sonnet songs.

This is essentially a demo. Over the last year I have had one friend die of cancer and three others enter the battle against that dread disease. Sonnet 73 by William Shakespeare gripped me when I read it, as it elegantly addresses the topic of getting old and facing the days when death is not too far off.

Copyrght Music Jack Miller 2006

Lyrics:
SONNET 73
That time of year thou mayst in me behold
When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang
Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,
Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day
As after sunset fadeth in the west,
Which by and by black night doth take away,
Death's second self, that seals up all in rest.
In me thou see'st the glowing of such fire
That on the ashes of his youth doth lie,
As the death-bed whereon it must expire
Consumed with that which it was nourish'd by.
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long.

The end of our times &mdash 07/13/06 - 06:35:28 AM
Beautiful musical work to fit the prose, Jack. Perfect graphic, too, lends to the ambience.

As I near 50 this year, I think more of how short our lives really are, how I will live with my shortcomings from here on, and the brief time left to make more of this quickened time - it will be gone before we know it

Thanks for this,

. - Harold

The last several months that theme has been running through my mind. That reality (of my and our mortality) was part of the inspiration in the lyrics of "For All The Many Things" and "Drawn Into The Light." The older we get, the more that reality draws nigh.

I appreciate your comments about the music very much. Thanks.

Very nostalgic feel to this, like remembering a loved one who has
departed. This line really gives a glimpse at how painful love can be."
This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong, To love that
well which thou must leave ere long." I marvel at couples who are still
in love after decades of being together, and how hard it must be when
one dies and the other must remain here alone. Very nice quitar and
simple melody that doesn't get in the way of the words, if you know
what I mean. I'm looking forward to hearing how Postludes does this.
Very nice, Jack. :-)

So it looks like a done deal. Richard and you in a duet, singing Shakespeare's Sonnet 73. Looking forward to this with much anticipation....

On some of the tunes I drop in on to listen to at macjams I get the feeling of being in the room with the one who is playing. It's so near and reminds me of how it sometimes is at late evenings with friends, playing and jamming into the night...

This one is like this. It's like you're playing this one just for me while I sit beside you listening. Very peaceful and warm.
That William dude used some strange language though...

Loved the song and I feel your pain. Your guitar is elegant and compliments your vocals nicely. Sung with emotion. Please visit this site if you get a chance.

Wow.... I will check out some of his songs this weekend. Sad story, yet it is a wonderful testament to him that some of his music survives. Interestingly, I started playing tenor in a band when I was 15. I remember us playing at a bar/lounge in Norristown, PA. It was a regular Th-F-S gig for a number of months and I had to keep a low profile also. The owner was told we were all 18 or older. Heheh.

Thanks for listening and sharing about Damon.

I look forward to hearing the Postludes Trio version of this, though this
has a lovely, peaceful simplicity all its own.

Beautiful :)
