Description:
Mystified wrote and sung this through her pinhole mic on her computer. She let me add some Guitar and Keyboards and new drums and mess up her pretty vocal stylings.

Excellent intro... &mdash 07/13/06 - 04:30:10 PM
...and keeps getting better. Solid, full soundbed (love the different guitar sounds) with a variety of beautiful musical ideas. The song structure is interesting and organic, and keeps your interest until the last note. I especially like how you manage to have these pulsing drums without overpowering the vocals (Mystified's voice sounds great even recorded through a pinhole mic...amazing.). I may be wrong but bass drum seems to distort at times? Anyways, this sure is a great production with lots of good energy and bursting with talent! First songs I heard from you, I'm hooked! Welcome to Macjams.

Thanks! I met Mysti at iCompositionsw (ooh I said the evil word didn't I?) and
though we come from very different musical styles I've always loved her work.
This song was a natural choice. About the Kick drum... yeah, I think you're
right. Let me know if it bugs you after repeated listenings and I'll send you a
remixed copy.

This is something else.....!! &mdash 07/13/06 - 05:43:17 PM
I LOVE it!!!

When Matt asked if he might 'add a few things' to my original track
(this was the second song I'd ever written in GB--Jan '05), I sent over
the original GB1 file...and now look what he's done?

Genius!!
I love how the old GB loops and pinhole mic'd voice have new life!

...or something like that... ;)

Thanks, Matt :)

world class track &mdash 07/14/06 - 01:41:19 PM
Oh gosh, this is so great. I just love everything in this song. You elegantly hided the low quality of the mic through the use of the right effects. A grand voice will always come true, however it is recorded.

I especially dig the beginning of the song. Is that a reversed voice I hear? Wonderful, wonderful. An astonishing vocal melody as well.

Hi Walter... Yes, you're right! I took the whole track (a bit of the end of the song
actually) and reversed the whole thing, did a fade in and attached it to the front.
Pretty easy and fun! Thanks for the kind words!

trippy summer of love &mdash 07/14/06 - 05:51:15 PM
This track has a very ethereal, laid-back atmosphere reminiscent of many groups in the late '60s - sort of a cross between Tangerine Dream and the Beatles.

You've chosen the various sounds imaginatively; it all fits together well. Nice, tasteful guitar playing which adds a lot to the song.

The quieter parts with Myst's vocals tended to sound more clear than the bigger instrumental sections, which were slightly muddy. Maybe "spread" the panning out more in the mix? In my headphones, at least, the texture sounded a bit thick and close at times.

Maybe this was your intention, however; it does seem to be a certain textural style which I may not know enough about to judge! ;-)

Myst, your vocals, as always, are beautifully melodic, and add sparkle to every song that has them. It's really amazing how you accomplished such a nice sound with only a pin-hole mic.

Very nice listen - nice job both of you!

Mysti is great I agree! Hmmmm, a Beatles reference. I think that's why I took
on this song... cause I'm a 60's era freak. I love everything about that music
era. This track had all the makings I needed to work with and keep that mix
between psychedelic Beatles and a Dionne Warwick / Dusty Springfield thing
going on. Was major fun!

(the shape of this comment looks like a shotgun, can you see it? I can.)
The backwards effect makes a great beginning, I love the vox track.

Dude, I love the way you mess things up. Great arranging and mixing.
You two make quite a team. Cheers

Thanks! This all means a lot considering my equipment is very minimal and I do
everything in GarageBand. It's nice to be able to almost get studio quality with
very limited investment.

Only Myst's voice is a lot nicer than Alanis's :) Very well done guys.

Thanks for the response! Actually, her voice was kicked back in the mix this
way on purpose to give the track a little more rock edge. If you want a mix with
her vocals very much up front, go to her page and you will find the original
version. She sings so sweetly I had to mess it up a little... y'know... Rock & Roll.
