Windmill & Whale Graveyard

Description
WARNING! This is a looong experimental song, very moody and very broad in dynamic range (very soft in some places and very loud in others). You WILL fall asleep at some point listening to it. You will not quite understand it. You may grow irate at not being able understand it. Have fun!

Actually, this one spawned from be using realtime effects with a guitar I had just purchased (hence the string scrapes and controlled feedback) in conjunction with some spacey sounds from my Korg X5D. This song was totally unrehearsed, unplanned and completely spontaneous for a majority of the duration.

I named it "Windmill & Whale Graveyard" because that's what it reminded me of. You may call it, "B.J.'s Bad Trip," if you like.

Disturbing and I had a flashback
the sputtering delayed FX and rumbly tones reminded me of some of those halcyon days of my youth (dare I say the late 60's early 70's) when Owlsley manufactured the drug of choice. I'd say this is more like a 'free-write' or tone jam. As my writing advisor used to say: 'it's time to re-visit, re-vise' get back to less is more. Re-arrange the plums.

tho it is fun to hang on for the long venture

Abstract wonder
This is wonderful. Excellent spinning of sounds,
production, everything. I wouldn't change a thing,
musically. You might consider placing this under
Abstract/FX instead of Prog Rock, tho. Great track.

dreamlike
This sounds like music I've had in dreams, sort of
episodic, flowing from one scene to another.

You create this mood well with your soundscapes which
blur from one to the next. It's sort of like looking at an
abstract painting; it is up to the viewer's (listener's, in this
case) imagination to create meaning from it. It is very
individual and subjective.

This piece creates the space in which to do that. VERRRRY
interesting, and a nice change from the usual stuff here.

I agree with Tobin that this song might be placed in the
Abstract/FX genre.

I'll see your "Ambient/Experiemental/FX Genre" and raise you a "sincere
gratitude."

Thanks for the suggestion.

Wonderful!
Tangerine Dream before they started making movies? I'm
not sure how windmills figure into it but this recalls
"Songs of the Humpback Whale" only much, much cooler.
I don't think it's too long at all...plenty of time to sink into
it.

takes me back...
I love it!
It took me back to when I wasn't afraid to experiment
outside the box, hours spent recording Flanger feedback
loops ... whew! (yards of wasted tape I thought.)

Thanks for the trip. "Glad I found it..." he said as he
clicked the download link.

lay back, and mutter.
I wanted to lay down in the dark and let my mouth hang open, just letting
out air and any other sounds that may escape. this is a compliment.
Obviously not music you would "hang out and listen to" but i don't think
that's what you made it for. I think the song did what it was supposed to
and i enjoy it for that purpose. A
