Description
This is an old hymn which I am going to sing in church tomorrow morning. In the summer, the choir is off, and so our music director lines up all kinds of people to do the offertory, until September comes and the choir is back.
I made this recording to "get my head in the game," to help me to focus and concentrate on the beautiful text and melody of this song. What I like most about the text is the wonderful picture of heaven, on the last verse. "Christ will gird himself and serve us, with sweet manna all around."
I love the melody, also, because it is pentatonic. If you don't know what that means, it simply means that you could play every note of this melody on the black keys of the piano. It also makes it easier to sing!
Hope this song is a blessing to all who hear it. The Lord has truly blessed me through this song. What a beautiful way to enter into worship, for Christians to "get their heads into the game," and what a hopeful picture of our life to come.
The piano playing is me "live." (Well, maybe a few edits.) The piano sound comes from my Synthogy Ivory plug-in. My mic is a Shure 565SD dynamic mic, running through a FastTrack interface. My controller is a Yamaha P-120. I have a 2004 eMac with Tiger and GB3.

Lyrics
Brethren, we have met to worship and adore the Lord our God;
Will you pray with all your power, while we try to preach the Word?
All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down;
Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.
Sisters, will you join and help us? Moses’ sister aided him;
Will you help the trembling mourners who are struggling hard with sin?
Tell them all about the Savior, tell them that He will be found;
Sisters, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.
Let us love our God supremely, let us love each other, too;
Let us love and pray for sinners, till our God makes all things new.
Then He’ll call us home to Heaven, at His table we’ll sit down;
Christ will gird Himself and serve us with sweet manna all around.
Will you pray with all your power, while we try to preach the Word?
All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down;
Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.

Sing more, please. I like your easy vibrato, the way it floats on tiptoes
over the melody. I feel a lightness of being that is cleansing. Thanks for
the Sunday morning peace.
