Description:
Piano and Oboe. Hey, I know it's not classical and I cannot play piano, not to speak of Oboe... that's why it sounds so... simple... :-)

Anyway, it sounds a little bit like two young women wearing white dresses, one holding an an umbrella, strolling through a park on a sommer day in 1902. Or think of a picnic in south France.

Hardware:
iMac Core Duo 2GHZ, 2GB RAM

Software:
GB3

fun waltz in the park... &mdash 07/19/06 - 10:56:35 AM
Welcome to Macjams! This is quite fun... I like the quirky ebb-and-flow
pace of this, and the interesting melody. I have two suggestions, though.
First, I'm pretty sure that is a "clarinet", not an oboe. Maybe that is why
you couldn't play it very well, you cannot play a clarinet with those two
reeds attached to it! :-) Secondly, the clarinet sounds very "boomy",
maybe there is too much high-midrange? You can try using the equalizer
on the clarinet to reduce that a little bit. But I like the composition, it is
fun!

Drakonis

I'm glad you like it :-)

It's definitely an oboe and not a clarinet, though. :P

Yes, welcome to MJ's! This sounds very pleasant, wistful, sentimental,
and you're right--it does sound like it could have been written at the
turn of the century. I think your imagery works very well.

'Classical' seems the right category to me.

And sorry to belabor a point from the previous comment, but ... are
you sure this is an oboe? It really does sound a lot like a clarinet! Are
these GarageBand instruments?

Hope you enjoy your this place!

Cheers, Clark

Sorry that the sound puzzles you...it's the Orchestra jampack's Oboe, but I
agree that the way it is played here it could just as well be a clarinet.

I personally like oboe a bit more than clarinet, both in real and in the
synthetic version of GB.

Very Good &mdash 07/19/06 - 11:06:35 PM
I really like this piece...Its fun to listen to and it takes me back in time to a place that%u2019s very visual. Good job creating that picture. The only criticism I would have is the alignment of the beats...Have you tried doing this in garage band because the rhythm is a little shaky and the ending was a little pre mature. Overall very good, looking forward to another post.

Thanks for your comments! I'm glad when someone enjoys my music.
:-)

As for the alignment of the beats, the reason all my midi keyboard stuff
sounds a bit jumpy and unaligned is not only my bad timing (heck, I'm a
guitarist...) but also that the keyboard sensitivity is set too high, but
I can't find the manual and don't remember how to change it. So there is
constant velocity `fluctuations'... :-)

I'm afraid though, that I will never correct this, because I can't stand
seemingly `perfect' mixes. Sorry!

Why on Earf do you say that this is not a classical piece? I think it's one of the few genuine classical classical pieces posted and one of the best. Sounds to me like it's in the style of the "Dolly Suite" by Gabriel Faur. Why do you say that you "cannot play piano" when you play every bit as well as I? Why do you "speak of oboe" when that's a nice clarinet part?

My complaint is that you could've gotten much more mileage from this fine material. It should've lasted 6-minutes at least. It really does sound French in style, which is not so easy to duplicate.

A lovely thing... &mdash 07/21/06 - 02:00:20 AM
from WeirdThing. Hey! First of all, welcome aboard. Secondly, this is at
once interesting and quirky. I like the comp. But listen to Drak on the
technics---the man knows his stuff.

Be well!
