7878 is what I voted for you. Nearly flawless production (I might have
mixed the bass a little hotter) Good drum track ... Nice build in the
instrumentation and interesting sounds overall. Nice stuff

thanks for the vote. i was going for a rock fugue.

there's still something odd about the beginning. the opening seems to be a bit
off the beat on the second repeat, and i can't figure out why. i suspect somehow
the drums are causing it. even quantizing the timing didn't help. any ideas?

I don't hear anything in the beginning that sounds off. If the timing is a bit off
it just sounds like real people playing ... which of course is what it is ... right.

Which is always a dangerous thing. You need to record Matthew and
put him right at the beginning of the song. "How old are you Mathew?"
"Three in January" ... then right into the song. It would add a nice
touch!
