somehow i got to thinking about Sneaker Pimps, but then i forget...

the backwards slide guitar effect is interesting- kind of like a racecar
zooming past.

i like the way you tied it up at the end by repeating the earlier marimba(?)
part.

heavy change up! Clean mix. Good stuff man!

Be well!

This fits Art Rock just fine ... reminds me of Tortoise and Jim O'Rourke in
spots.
Excellent work .. I'm sure I'll be hearing the xylophones and violins and
steel guitars and drums in my head the rest of the day ... forwards and
reverse.

thank you Mungo. I've always considered xylo and reverse steel as a wining team.

Man, you're really the grandmaster of sound compositions. Listening for the third time now already, and this tune only gets better and better. There's already a dadaistic vocal add-on spining around in my head. Indeed, indeed no genre invented yet for this kind of music. Vive la datafunkit!

hmmm... shall I, dare I, could I? OK, I'll give it a try. Open your mind for this first Belgo-French joint. But give me some time... Est-ce qu'on a droit a des subsides pour ceci?

crackin snare &mdash 07/24/06 - 10:26:08 AM
First thing that hooked me on this, oddly, was the snare, which was lovely and crisp.
The track sounds kinda like a movie score (the strings kept reminding me of Psycho) set to a great dance back beat.
Really like when it ramps up and everything gets backwards - sounds really powerful.

Good structure really keeps the interest to the end - great work, guy.

Sweeeeet! &mdash 07/27/06 - 09:21:22 AM
Yes, with that zooming car slide guitar effect, lots of other great sounds, that stop/start thing going on, and the rest, this a great piece of art rock, even if you're not sure it's art rock. Can I just say that I find the opening section, where it's just the string instrument on its own, a bit lengthy and drawn out. Once things start happening, though, everything's cool. You got groove and imagination, a seemingly rare combo.

Sweeeeet! &mdash 08/01/06 - 09:46:36 AM
I totally agree with you for the opening section, I find it way too long now and the violins kinda crisp my ears. thanks for listening, I'll probably make it shorter. cheers.

a surprising musical moment &mdash 07/28/06 - 09:10:09 AM
On the first listening I thought the opening was too long, but when the absolutely exquiste resolution arrives, when that main theme returns at the end, I realized I was just being melody-indoctrinated. After taking rides down all of those other pathways, when the opening sequence re-entered, at first it seemed like a distance memory, and then suddenly it hit me - this is where the journey started. That was a nice musical moment.

After repeated listenings, the surprise is diminished (which should come as no surprise!), but now the opening sequence doesn't feel too long, as it becomes familiar.

Lots of great sounds flowing through this piece. How do you create those reverse elements? I assume some other program than garageband?

thanks for the comment Warren :-)

yep indeed, there's a life after garageband. For this one I used Ableton Live 5.something... Live makes it really easy to cut, edit, glue or... reverse whatever yo want. you should try it someday!
