Description:
"SYNESTHESIA: Is a condition in which one sense is simultaneously percieved as if by one or more additional senses.

"The word synesthesia comes from two Greek words, syn (together) and aisthesis (perception). Therefore, synesthesia literally means "joined perception."

"The most common form, colored letters and numbers, occurs when someone sees a certain color in response to a certain letter or number."

This continues my attempt to merge minimal and avant-garde composers with a hint of Jazz.

Ahh yes...Synesthesia... &mdash 07/21/06 - 06:33:08 PM
I had a number of run-ins with that experience long ago in my LSD
ingesting days (daze!). This is an interesting and fairly successful attempt
to employ this experience metaphorically via sound. I like it. Creative.

Be well!

Thanks for the comment. I hadn't originally intended to make a correlation
between synesthesia and the composition, but when I came upon the definition,
I decided to include it here, for the idea is inherent. I was thinking more along
the lines of Rimbaud and Burroughs and the stated composers, in my attempt to
create, and to create in new form. Thanks again for the listen.

Nice textures &mdash 07/22/06 - 08:20:46 PM
As always you're making some very interesting sounds here. I
particularly like the first 45-60 seconds of this piece as all the sounds
you're using are very nicely fitted together and as you build them they
still sound as the one sound. The other textures you use throughout
the piece are very interesting too, but don't quite work as well as this
first section... both because they are very different sounds (paricularly
the chordal piano in the middle)... and also because I begin to hear
that each sound is just faded in and out. I know its probably asking
too much if you're using Garageband... but I'd love to hear you use
some other minimalist techniques such as some addition or
subtraction (change the length of loops a little over a period of time) so
you can spend more time on the more interesting textures and vary
them within themselves, rather than changing to another sound.

Anyway... nice work... good sounds... I liked it!

There will always be some inherent flaws in my compositions. I'm working with
very limited technology, so I do what I can. I agree with many of your
observations. The first half of the composition is strongest. I do plan to
implement further techniques utilized by minimalist composers, but wish, as
always, to filter these and any other techniques through me, as I attempt to
create something that does not readily fall into the catagory of minimalism, or
anything else. Your insightful and articulate comments are always appreciated.
Thanks again for listening.

Uneasy &mdash 10/01/06 - 05:51:48 AM
The start of this track reminded of the sounds I've heard in my head
when I've been given laughing gas ... you're awake but things are
kinda fluid and unreal ... the other instruments and sounds seeping in
and out reinforce the idea of a semi-conscious state.

Feelings of uneasy and tranquility flow together.

That's as far as I can put my feelings of this track into words.

Unique, thoughtful work.

Steve

Thanks for the thoughts and comment. These experiments are always difficult
to put into words, and people should keep in mind that they aren't finished
products, but attempts, and attempts to push beyond the regular confines of
"music" and into something different and possibly new. Regardless, I'm always
pleased when someone takes the time to listen and comment. Thanks again.

well appreciated &mdash 03/13/07 - 08:37:38 PM
i'm a huge fan of expressionism, this seems like it would be well set next to a visually illustrative cartoon, perhaps something from Gendy Travinsky mixed with looney tunes!

Much thanks for the comment. I'm always pleased when people have the ears to hear what I'm doing. Any comparison to Chick is high praise, so thanks indeed. I only wish I had the time and machinery to do more.

Interesting condition &mdash 02/20/08 - 05:16:05 PM
I guess it could be real bare if the condition worsens. Hope all is well.

Interesting sounds here.

Thanks for describing the condition

Hmmmm &mdash 02/28/08 - 07:41:58 PM
interesting sounds but I think some of them go on too long to continue to be called interesting.
It ends quite abrubtly which I think brings an too quick of an end to the world you seem to be attempting to create.

Thanks for giving it a listen. Although, I wasn't attempting to make the composition in any way conventional or "easy". It is an experiment in sound, it is rooted in the avant-garde, it is meant to make one listen in new ways and experience "music" through new sounds. It is meant to be different. By extension, it will then have a limited audience. There will be many people who cannot "hear" what is going on and will continue to prefer a conventional approach to music. This is fine. But that is not what I do.

Very unique &mdash 02/28/08 - 07:46:42 PM
I love the textures and use of fx .
It reminds me of the BBC Radiophonic workshop material of the 60's and 70's. Which is very artistic and "heady" stuff.

I do a bit of that myself as underscore for plays and short films .
Your music is other worldly and has is very unique.
Loved it !!

Thanks so much for checking it out and the kind words. I'll have to give your music a listen as well. All of these compositions are experiments. I work with the limited tools I have and see what I can do. I'm always pleased when someone else can "hear" it as well.
