Description:
I wrote these lyrics after a series of stressful events all hit me at once very recently ... and of course what better sound bed than one of "Bad Smell's" songs .... originally called "Sun Moon and Rain" found here: http://www.macjams.com/song/21830. Anyway ... this one is "dripping" with reverb ... just the way I like em !!!

Lyrics:
Is my glass half empty - Or is it half full
Do I measure life in pieces - Or measure it as a whole

Is it true that bad luck - Always happen in three
I believe this is true - Because it just happened to me

Is my glass half empty - Or is it half full
Do I measure life in pieces - Or measure it as a whole

For each door that closes - Another one appears
Waiting to be opened - To dispel all my fears
New opportunities await me - Waiting to unfold
Exciting new beginnings - Letting go of the old

Is my glass half empty - Or is it half full
Do I measure life in pieces - Or measure it as a whole

No need to fear - What I do not know
Embrace these new changes - Go with the flow

This one is pretty good... I've heard you do much better :) You add a
little too much "warble/tremelo" in the first two stanzas, but the 3rd
stanza sounded really good, and you have quite a vocal range! The
backing song *is* really nice, and your voice fits in there well. Also,
you have a real knack for writing lyrics and melodies/harmonies, and
weaving them into songs (I know, I've said that before, it just always
impresses me when people can do that!) And it is dripping with
Reverb, but your recording and mixing skills are getting better, this is
a good clear recording, not muddy any more.
ttfn,
Drakonis

That warble/tremolo sound you hear was intentional .... its a chorus setting I used .... just a little experimentation on my part ... heh heh - thanks for the commentos and the listen.

Drakonis thinks otherwise but I think I like this just about as much as
your other pieces, Alannah. This has very restrained vocals and i don't
think you overuse the vibrato. I like your voice when it goes up and
into the high note but pull yourself from singng it full-throat. It has a
mellowing effect.

My only little notice about your singing style is you don't do a lot of
variations in terms of melody from verse to verse. It may serve to
highlight the chorus by singing it differently, either widenign the range
or changing the pace or attitude. That's just my take on that, and it
doesn't take anything from your superb singing abilities. Nevertheless,
this vocal arrangement has a placid effect... both mournful and morose
as you sing about destiny's curses and blessings. You do put a lot of
emotion in your music and your pain and suffering are quite palpable.

I like the absence of percussions and beat. The musical background is
plain and unadorned in presenting the raw emotions of this song.

Leon .. I can always count on you to "make my day" .... that "high note that you speak up going somewhere in my throat ... hahahaha" is my attempt at "falsetto" without needing to "belt" it out .. which is usually the only way I can hit the high notes .... . On the "mixing it up a bit" for the chorus part ... I normally don't have a traditional style or chorus on a lot of my stuff ... all part of my MACJAMS Experimentation in styles .... most of my songs "tell a story" versus traditional "pop" style or what is considered to be the norm in song writing style ... i.e. verse .. verse .. chorus ... verse .. bridge ... verse ...etc. etc. ..... come on up to Canada some time and hear me belt em out in the BAR when I am singing cover songs .. you would hear a whole different Alannah ! I am still struggling with how to RECORD my voice ..... mostly due to equipment issues ... I am unable to hear my own voice through the headphones while recording .... sigh ! But at the risk of writing a book here .. thank you for the commentos ... you are FABULOUS ! One day we MUST collab .... now there would be a "Battle of the Divas" .. hahaha

This is by far your best production 'till now. levels are very good. Very ear
friendly. And your singing is good as always. Just cut the noise at the
beginning/end.

I think that noise you hear at the beginning is my putting down my beer bottle ...... hmmmm either that or me getting up from my chair AFTER hitting " record" .. ha ha ha .... I have some very bad recording habits .... but I am glad you liked the song .... usually what happens in my case is that I hear a piece of music by someone (in this case Bad Smells) and I instantly feel I MUST sing all over it .... and hence .. an "Alannah" number is born !!

These tracks make me wonder why Bad Smell doesn't write his own lyrics.
Ha!

You two make a good team

You said you sing over other's files. Seems tighter than that. Almost like
he wrote this one for you.

When you sing over someone elses' music you give that piece rebirth. I know what you mean. I start to sing over instrumentals all the time. You have a wonderful, sultry voice and you command attention with it. Thank you, both.
