Rain &mdash 07/25/06 - 02:32:31 PM
In every forest a little rain must fall : >
Okay - in this case, a lot of rain.
I like the tempo shifts throughout the piece. It really makes you feel like you are moving through a sonic landscape.
Nicely conceived - and nicely played. [ Reply to This ]
All the colours of the forest &mdash 07/25/06 - 05:43:13 PM
Cool track! It's pretty solid jazz fusion, but I'm enjoying the unusual
sounds you're -- apparenty -- getting out of your guitar.
The into led me to suspect a different sort of track: it differs quite a bit in
character from the rest of the track. I might have done the transition a bit
more gently. Maybe. [ Reply to This ]

thank you for comment.
Yes, I wanted to take the listener on the wrong path with the intro,
so i'm glad it works. If you listen exactly you will hear that a part of the intro is
already under the guitarpart, it's now played by the bass.
But i was thinking about the intro beeing to long ? How do you think ?
sorry for bad english, I'm only a poor german ;-)

Fabulous &mdash 07/27/06 - 05:51:00 AM
All very cool. Very. Love the predator feel (nice art choice) juxtaposed to
the psychedelic dreamy ease, the prog fusion changes are wonderful, and
great production and playing all around. Altho you definitely have a great
track here and don't need to change a thing, I did miss a rippin' prog
guitar solo (the lazy thing you did is ok, but the coolest part of the track
is that kickin syncopation part at the head, and I'd have loved a solo over
that instead of the rather languid section you chose. Fabulous stuff. [ Reply to This ]
Fabulous &mdash 07/29/06 - 08:18:54 AM
thank you very, very much for your constructive comment,
my problem with prog guitar solos is often that I had a time when I heard and
played so much of it, that sometimes I can't hear it any longer, especially my
own ones :-)
in this song i was more focused on groove, mood and rhythmical stuff. So I
added that tranquility part in the middle to have a contrast.
It's long ago since i recorded this one, so i will search my old backup CD's
and if i ever find the files i will redo this thing with a new solo over a new part
and post it.
Thank's again for youre comments, they are always inspiring to me.

what about the intro, is it to long ?

Fabulous &mdash 08/02/06 - 10:34:25 AM
The intro is off-putting and too long on one level, well-balanced on another. It
is by far the least interested aspect of the song, but sets up the scene. The
"George of the jungle" aspect is not nearly as cool as what is to come. If you
had a real player play something that grooved into what you were doing and
incidentally made it sound jungle-like, I'd prefer that. The intro is contrived and
MIDI and doesn't live like the rest of the piece. So, yes, it is too long for what it
is, but if a live drummer got his hands on it, it could evolve into a cool solo intro
that set up the whole. I'd prefer hearing the section that leads into the ambient
middle section to be used as an intro, perhaps. I love that rhythmic bridge. [ Reply to This ]

Guitar lurking like a raptor in the palm fronds... &mdash 07/31/06 - 07:36:38 PM
Wish I had that command of sounds from a Strat. Takes me back to
some Phil Manzanera and even some Adrian Belew, just in terms of the
Strat-not-sounding-like-a-Strat. Some of the "seagull sounds", for
instance...
I am enjoying the guitar playing. I will also say that I was enjoying the
pre-guitar intro stuff on its own, too... that track was interesting...
There's a 'stompiness' to the rhythm that I like very much. I also like
the marimba-ish tones in the backing track....
Just good all 'round...

Yes, you're, right, I'm a big Adrian Belew fan, think he's one of the most
creative musicians of our decade. I really love his solo work, the things he
had done for Talking Heads and some of the stuff he plays with King
Crimson. Thank you for youre nice comments.

Nice feel &mdash 08/01/06 - 12:57:52 PM
The whole thing feels great, completely professional.
The way you build it up to start is very interesting, with each layer adding
a new dimension as it is added.
Is the intro too long? Maybe... My hunch is probably yes; as interesting
as that layered intro is, the part that REALLY grabs you as a listener and
sucks you in right away is the moment the guitar enters, so I'd probably
shorten the into a bit so that we could hear that sooner.
But really, the length isn't a problem at all. It all works just great! [ Reply to This ]
