Description:
This is a rough cut. I'm looking for suggestions from all y'all MJ'ers!

Thanks!

Oh, also, I used no loops. This is all me on my geetar and keyboard. Also, all vocals are moi.

Thanks so much!
Stacey

Lyrics:
MY SATURDAY RITUAL
Stacey K. Black

I have a Saturday Ritual
first place I hit is Starbucks for a large iced tea.
I don't add any sweetener
'cause I've been told I'm sweet enough already,
and oh, oh, I agree.

Next comes the nail salon
for a mani-pedi and a seat in a massaging chair.
Sometimes I almost fall asleep
and I half-dream that you are there,
and oh, oh, it's so unfair.

I have to fill every minute
I can't have empty minutes
even if it means reading Atlas Shrugged again.

I have to fill every minute
I can't stand empty minutes
and I don't want to have to read Atlas Shrugged again,
no, not until this year ends.

The hardest part is after sundown
and I'm not always this lucky.
Sometimes a friend will call
and invite me to a swinging L.A. party,
but oh, oh, have mercy.

I have to fill every minute
I can't have empty minutes
even if it means reading Atlas Shrugged again.

I have to fill every minute
I can't stand empty minutes
and I don't want to have to read Atlas Shrugged again,
no, at least not until this year ends.

oh oh oh
oh oh oh

I'd rather stay at home
and look for comfort in my new stemware.
'cause I'm worn out from my ritual
and I know you are out there somewhere,
oh, oh, somewhere...

nice moody song &mdash 07/26/06 - 06:22:01 PM
I love your vocal too. and the harmony. very nice work. i listened to some other of your songs and liked them too, especially Hollywood. The only suggestion i'd make about the lyrics is that instead of just using Atlas Shrugged as a distraction, how about renting the same old movie, or playing the same old record. At any rate, this song conveys a nice sense of longing. The last verse is really sweet. I like the "comfort in my new stemware". I'd love to know more details about how you record your vocal. It is very clear and yet sounds like it fills the whole room. I just haven't been able to achieve anything that sounds that good. It could be my microphone (an AKG 535 condenser) or my pre amp (M Audio mobilepre). It looks like you record through a Bose Recorder. Maybe that's the key. Any suggestions to me would be most appreciated.

Thanks so much for your kind words and great suggestions! I use an
audiotechnica cendenser microphone, and I run it through a BOSS digital
recorder before it goes through my M-Audio interface into my Mac. It's kind of
convoluted, but I really like the result, better than just going into the computer.

Thanks for listening!

Exellent writing Stacy &mdash 07/26/06 - 07:08:09 PM
This works for me... somber and hopeful, but still meloncholy.. as
always a very strong vocal performance, with exellent backvox... and
by all means keep the Lyric "Atlas Shrugged" instead of some cliche'.. it
gives a glimpes into stacy, that no cliche' could... you are doing very
good work there young lady... you are certainly a gifted writer, and you
are getting good results with your recordings here... upward and ever
onward

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Wow, I really appreciate those beautiful words coming
from you! And, I read Atlas Shrugged about once a year, usually when I'm going
through a bad time (like now!) and I just DON'T want to read it right now
dammit! haha.

Thanks again. You really lifted my spirits!

Stacey

Stick with the rough cut! This song is such an honest expression and you really captured it in an honest performance. It's one of those pieces that should stay stripped down. And that's the best kind of compliment. The tune stands on it's own. look forward to listening to your other stuff!

you're blessed... &mdash 07/27/06 - 12:25:44 PM
You're blessed with tons of talents and one of the best voices I've ever heard on MJ and elsewhere. I listened to a couple of your songs earlier. They're all great, but this one really stands out. Besides your performance, you're also a very gifted lyrics writer. Such simple and honnest words can only come out real life experiences. That really shines through. Wonderful, wonderful, Stacey. You can call me a fan for sure.

Hi- I came to hear this after a recent post &mdash 03/25/07 - 10:36:35 PM
I really love your understated, yet full sounding vocal performances! Your lyrics are full of hopeful sadness (or sad hopefulness) that pulls me in. Great song!
