I am taking a jazz workshop at Butler University here in Indianapolis. It's a "big band." After the workshop is done, we will perform at the Jazz Kitchen here in Indy.
We are doing a Basie tune which starts out with a blues pattern, and a piano solo. I thought my piano solo sounded fairly decent, so I made a recording of it with my MiniDisc deck. It's a five-foot Steinway which is pretty well in tune. Looks like the piano might be 25+ years old, but appears to be recently rebuilt.
Ain't nothing like the real thing, Baby! I just am in love with the chance to play a "real" piano that sounds and reacts the way a "real" piano should. Digital stuff is fine, but the real thing needs to happen once in awhile, just to remind myself why I like to play piano in the first place.
The voice you hear at the top is our bandleader, not me. He's the one snapping, also.
You'll also hear live drumset, live "real" upright bass, and live jazz guitar. What a blast.
The picture is me at Kids Camp, on my "staff" bunk bead. I am the music leader each summer for Kids Camp, which our church does for our kids. I play a mean campfire guitar!
