Description:
Inspired by the beauty and innocence of a child's imagination and her dreams of distant lands where she reigns as princess while she sleeps.
I'd like to think this is simply a draft; input is welcome. Based on Bowman's response, I already changed the end (the highs were too harsh and organ-like). Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to resubmit the song without destroying the profile, and I don't want to re do all of that right this minute.
Lyrics:
No lyrics. Just imagine the greatest dreams you ever had as a child or a lullaby that leads her to such a place.

G4 Quicksilver 733mhz

GB, Jam Pack Symphony and World Pack software instruments used.

A better place! &mdash 08/01/06 - 05:26:26 PM
A simple yet beautiful chord progression leads us through a quiet land. A
lovely harp ads a golden texture that gave me goose bumps then Irish
sounding winds took over nicely expanding your theme. Towards the end
I felt Horner%u2019s pastoral influence, which I liked. The organ at the finale
was a little heavy for me. But overall your music captured a yearning hope
for a better place. Well done Rick. [ Reply to This ]

Thank you, Bowman! Yeah, I'm not exactly satisfied with that end. It seems to
disrupt the mood that has been established, so I need to rework it. Still, it
had some character, so I wanted to post it for some response. Thanks for the
listen and the excellent critique! [ Reply to This ]

This will be a relatively quick comment because I'm supposed to be
somewhere else right now (!), but I REALLY like this. You have a great,
natural sense for orchestration, and your music paints beautiful pictures.
I'm glad Bowman has left you a comment; hopefully you guys can check
out each other's music, because you're both really good at cinematic
soundtracks. Lots of nice detalis. Great work! [ Reply to This ]

By the way, what some people do when they revise a song is upload the
revised version as v. 2. That way, each version gets its own comments,
and no one's comments are deleted (which would happen if you were to
delete the first version). [ Reply to This ]

I'm really honored by your visit. You compose some of the most outstanding orchestration I've heard here. Thanks for the advice and for taking your time to stop by. [ Reply to This ]

If I were more knowledgeable about music I could maybe tell you why this
moves me so, but I'm not, so I'll just tell you that it does. You are an
exceptional talent, sir. [ Reply to This ]

I am deeply gratified it has moved you. I am humbled by your assessment; I do not view myself as deeply talented. Every now and then I am inspired to give birth to a tune that haunts/inspires me, and I strive to improve with each composition.
Thank you for your listen!! [ Reply to This ]
Cinematic and elegant &mdash 08/03/06 - 07:16:35 AM
Beautiful. Cinematic. With a Celtic flare, a sense of space and
timelessness, I am off to discover your other tracks. [ Reply to This ]

I am deeply appreciative, humbled, and a little embarrassed. You are an extraordinary talent and your compositions and contributions virtually embody the soul and purpose of this very website. I hope you will find that each composition represents a period of growth--I strive to be better and better--I have learned much from many on this site and I am inspired and pushed to do better each time. I hope that is reflected in the range of my pieces. Thank you, Tobin. A compliment from you carries extraordinary weight. You have just given me more confidence to keep pushing as some of these other listeners have. Thank you all! [ Reply to This ]
Sweet &mdash 08/04/06 - 08:22:55 AM
Very nice...The beginning is very similar in tone to "The Breaking Of The
Fellowship" song from LOTR but then slips off into something beautifully
different. Will be checking out more of your stuff! [ Reply to This ]

Thanks, Morpehus! I might be the only one on the planet who hasn't seen any
of the LOTR trilogy...but I am certain to try and find that score and give it a
listen now. Thanks!

Beautiful imagery... &mdash 09/01/06 - 05:46:09 PM
It's one of those things you can't exactly learn, and it comes across so effortlessly in your music%u2013 this sense of hope and the inner beauty of life. I really admire that. Music like this allows you to transform an ordinary moment into something more fruitful and inspiring. The simplicity of the chord successions is very powerful in this piece and the choice of instruments works really well. I could go on and on admiring the atmosphere you create with this, so I'll just say that (since you had asked) I would experiment with the attack and a slighly slower release on the strings, in order to make them sound less abrupt without having to resort to reverbs which could water down the full and crisp sound. There are lots of motion picture soundtracks out there with a similar sound, I found it quite rewarding to analyze the sound of the orchestra, trying to calibrate the various string sections in GB accordingly. Otherwise I can only say that I am really impressed by your work as you seem to rely more on your heart and talent than on a formal education while still composing these inspiring soundtracks with musical depth and beauty. Thank you for your assessment. My apologies for not having responded sooner...life...just keeps making me live it and I don't have as much time as I'd like to discuss music. I appeciate your assessment and analysis, and I am thrilled and encouraged by your enjoyment of the piece. From you, that measn and says alot! Thank you! [ Reply to This ]

draft away! &mdash 11/19/06 - 01:00:23 AM
This definitely feels like a sketch for a more monumental work. Really gorgeous melody, so sweetly played in the middle on the recorder (nice natural portamentos there). The strings at the beginning played sweet chords, but maybe should be spread a little more spatially and/or pitch-wise, the synth/sampled nature made them a little muddy/fake. This does feel very LOTR-ish. I would maybe suggest a "B" theme to interject between the intro and the recorder part, and again before the ending to extend this, maybe? Anything to extend this dream you're creating, I really like your choice of voicings, and crescendos, and would love to hear this become a longer more developed piece! Very nice, you are faved so I can watch for more of your work... thanks for popping into chat and saying "yo" so I could discover you!

I can't believe you popped in on a yo! hehehe...Anyway, thank you! You really made me smile today! Thanks for your suggestions. This all started for my daughter. She wrote a script (very influenced by the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe) and asked me to do the soundtrack for her "movie". What Dad could refuse?
I've listened to you many times but I'll return the courtesy and comment. Thanks again..it was a very nice surprise. [ Reply to This ]
Lovely &mdash 11/20/06 - 12:31:16 PM
Very cinematic... yeah, I was reminded of Lord of the Rings too, in several places. Which is cool: I love the soundtracks to those movies. This is some fine orchestral work; someday I hope to be this good with software synths! Great job, RickB1. [ Reply to This ]
Wow... &mdash 11/20/06 - 05:42:55 PM
Thanks, PV. I am absolutely thrilled that this has been so well received. I'm just learning here--I have to say that this piece is " a personal best" so far. I hope to do more soon. There are so many incredibly talented people putting out so much wonderful music that I am very grateful you stopped by for a listen! [ Reply to This ]

I could imagine this as a backdrop for a film about those early Pioneers Irish in this instance I think with that Celtic feel. It is very moving, regards M [ Reply to This ]
