Description:
Another modal experiment. It's really the introduction and exposition to a larger piece I'm working on, but I think it works well by itself. Unfortunately, the recording is less than stellar (am not working with garageband, although I do have it, as well as symphonic and world packs) but I hope the music speaks for itself.

Medieval sound &mdash 08/08/06 - 12:02:11 PM
This piece has a medieval feel to it, which I enjoyed. I liked the cyclic
patterns you created which at times it evoked Philip Glass's early works. I
could see it taking off and becoming a richer, more complex and jazzier
composition. The recording is a little dry sounding but in any case a nice
piece.

Thank you and thank you. I have a very modal ear, so most of my melodies and harmonies, or whatever you want to call them, sound medieval. I've been trying to break out, but I just can't. Re: Philip Glass. That's a wonderful complement! He's one of my favorites.

The music does speak... &mdash 08/08/06 - 03:27:26 PM
and it speaks well! Very beautiful composition this. Soothing and
evocative. I had no problem with the production. Sounds fine to me!

Be well!

It's the first composition I've written that doesn't feel "tense." I usually utilize synchopation to create energy, but for my Quintet, I focused on the mood of the sound. I'm glad you liked it.

Nice &mdash 01/05/07 - 08:10:38 PM
I liked this piece a lot. Its rare to find a nice modal melody these days, so very nice job. You should consider investing into some sort of music sampling software to make your compositions all the better. Starting out I would suggest Jam Pack 4 for GarageBand.
