Description:
This is the definitive version of my previously released demo "The Red Old Box".
I looked for someone who could write lyrics for this one for a long time, and finally I started to collaborate with Richard Schletty (rschletty).
He is a great songwriter and in a few hours he wrote these beautiful lyrics starting from a little idea I submitted to him.

This is a description from Richard:
"I am thankful to Luca for providing such a wonderful soundtrack to work
with. We proved to ourselves that we can do more as a team by sending
comments back and forth. The soundtrack got progressively better with each
round of e-mails, and Luca helped guide me in delivering the vocals. At one
point I had too many vocal harmonies (oohs and aaahs), so we cut back. The
idea for The Old Red Box was Luca's. He softly sang a few lines in a demo
version, then described what objects and feelings the old red box might
contain. I took it from there."

We hope you like this song, any comment is appreciated.

Luca and Richard

Lyrics:
The Old Red Box

In an old red box I found a picture of you.
In an old red box remnants of love I once knew.
In an old red box I found a letter you wrote.
In an old red box one lingering note.

I gaze at your image frozen in time.
I read between lines, the reasons, the rhyme.
Your ruby lips distant, your rosy cheeks faded.
My heart, it was sealed, now you dare invade it.

In an old red box such unbridled yearning.
In an old red box the old flame still burning.
In an old red box I found a picture of you.
In an old red box remnants of love I once knew.

With each passing year warm colors turn gray.
Regrets all must die as flesh turns to clay.
I gaze at your image frozen in time.
I read between lines, the reasons and rhyme.

In an old red box I found a picture of you.
Such unbridled yearning, remnants of love I once knew.
In an old red box I found a letter you wrote.
Oh, woman, my heart's in my throat!

This is cool! Music is great and sounds real not like some fake instruments and Schletty this is the best song I've heard you do. Truly an amazing song and I love the trippy tremolo strums! All the guitar parts are really cool! This is a hit!

Thank you,
I'm glad you like my guitar parts.
The previous version of the song was a little bit slower, but we decided to add
some bpm, and now it sounds really good.

Smootchy ... &mdash 08/08/06 - 10:03:01 AM
nice idea you have there, worked into song.

Overall the music (and subject) together with the 'slow dance'
smootchy-ness rhythm, sentimentality and something in rschletty's
vocals in this left me thinking, B.Ferry and Roxy music for some reason.

Good place to hide pictures of old-flames btw, no-one would ever
suspect (or play) the table croquet :o)

Hello apb,
probably there is something in the song that reminds Roxy Music atmosphere,
maybe the way Richard sings.
I think there is a Byrds and Tom Petty flavor too, I love that music...

Beautiful Understatement &mdash 08/08/06 - 11:11:35 AM
This is one of your best vocals, Richard, a very good understated, yet
emotional delivery of some nice lyrics. Mister F's playing is as tight as
anything I've heard here and the production is chinkless. I get a Brian
Ferry vibe, too. At first I was thinking of the love child of Elvis and Roy
Orbison, but as soon as I saw apb's post I could place the association.

Nice work, guys. I hope you work together again.

Thanks for stopping by to listen, Ledeb. We appreciate your thoughtful
comments. Luca and I have already done Dreamville and Midnight Coffee. I
asked him yesterday to collaborate on a new fourth song. Expect more.

This time me and Richard really worked together.
It was like if we had been in the same room creating the song.
We will collaborate in future, I have many instrumentals that need great lyrics,
and Richard is the man...

No kidding....this is great stuff. Schletty's vox playing off the Roger
McGuinn style guitar riffs is heart wrenching. Excellent arrangement and
production.

Be well!

Big sound! Great production and song writing guys. Definite Brian
Ferry vibe (although I suspect this is better than a lot of what he did).
Really like the continuous picked riff - very cool. I think this is the best
I've heard you sound Richard, and Luca, I'm going to look much more
closely at your work in future. I can't fault anything here at all. As
close to a perfect track of this nature that I'm going to hear! Sincere
congratulations!

At first... &mdash 08/10/06 - 10:24:06 PM
I did not like this at all. But you changed my mind, and now I love it!
Besides Elvis and Orbison, I was thinking Sons of the Pioneers
("Tumbling Tumbleweed", "Cool Water"), I guess 'cause of the
harmonies. Very nice music for driving late at night, with the air on
just a hair too low, and someone asleep in the passenger's seat...

Rich production. I love the vocal arrangement and guitar work. Reminds
me of Bryan Ferry and Chris Rea.

Thank you for this comment.
I like Brian Ferry and Roxy Music, but he is not one of my favorite artists.
Anyway it is an honor for me to be compared to him.

Kick Out the Ric &mdash 10/20/06 - 03:19:32 AM
Great sounding Rickenbacher. Guitar parts are well done, not over
done and not medium rare. Tasty none the less.

The vocal is a little formal sounding for my taste, but that's just me. I
do like the way the vocals are arranged in the last chorus.

Well produced.

This is amazing guitar work, you are an amzing guitarist, the tone and expertise is remarkable. The way two guitar parts respond to one another is pure genius.
