Description:
Last Sunday, my friend Randy played a sax solo for the offertory at church. This track is my arrangement of the old hymn "Blessed Assurance." I accompanied on our church's very nice Yamaha 6-ft grand piano. I captured the audio on my MiniDisc recorder.

Randy, you sounded great! What a sweet and soulful quality you get out of that sax.

Hardware:
A real sax, a real piano. MiniDisc audio recorder. OtterBox mics.

Software:
GB and iTunes, only for converting to mp3.

John, thats simply sweet. You guys must really have a huge turn out at
your services. For a live recording it came out friggin great. Nice
balance and the tone was wonderful for both instruments. You guys
play together alot? Cause this sounds like second nature to you both. I
think they should have taken up a second collection, just for an encore.

Well, Karm, I really appreciate all your kind words.

Just as much as the actual music, I was quite pleased with the quality of the
recording. My little MiniDisc deck, even tho it's five years old, is one amazing
little machine. And the OtterBox mics really deliver.

And yes, our church is fairly good size. That service on the recording is our
9:30 Sunday service. We also have 5:00 Saturday, and 8:00 Sunday and 11:00
Sunday. We average a total of about 1000 people a weekend, counting all the
services. That 9:30 service probably had around 300 to 400 people.

Beautiful combinations. &mdash 08/09/06 - 06:39:28 AM
The saxophone and the piano talked about peace.
Very good holiday.

Lovely rendition.... &mdash 12/05/06 - 12:08:14 PM

John:

I love the piano, and the re-harm of the hymn. Take it to the next level. Get into a studio or upgrade both your mics and effects. Don't let all your wonderful talent be lost on average recording equiptment. Two recording stusiods that I have read about in your area (and both come high recommended) are:

The Lodge Recording Studios Indianapolis, IN 317-568-0000
Voted: "One Of The 10 Best Recording Studios Under $80/hr". By Performing Songwriter Magazine. R E C O R D I N G S T U D I O S Indianapolis

I wish you the very best-

Doug, thanks for listening and commenting. I read your bio just now and I am blown away. You have a very impressive resume. I am sure that I could learn a lot from you.

I would love to do recording in a real studio. However, with negative cash flow, and three jobs, and a wife and three kids, it's just not realistic at the moment to consider it. So Synthogy Ivory will have to suffice for now. If I did record in a studio, it would probably be AirBorne. My wife has sung in a choral demonstration choir there for years. Her choir does choral demos for Hal Leonard, Lorenz, and other well-known publishers. (I also used to be in that choir, until they discovered that my voice is not really "first-call" material. Plus somebody has to stay home and take care of the kids!)

What I want to know is, with all your duties at church and school, how do you have time for MacJams??? Oh wait -- I should ask myself the same question!

Beautiful performance and great arrangement - I would love to play it! You wouldn't happen to have sheet music available, would you?

Thanks for your kind words, Bearoness. No, sorry, there's no sheet music for that, except for a melody lead sheet which the sax player played from. Glad you liked it, though.
