Description:
I did this one weekend when the madness struck me.
A friend had sent me a list of various (supposedly authentic) similes and metaphors written by High School students (Thank you, Steve :)

I decided to choose three randomly and see where the journey took me.
So...here...share in the madness!

PS: Mungo, I hope you appreciate the featuring of one instrument in particular in the third part! :D

Lyrics:
1) Allergic to Hummingbirds

John and Mary had never met. They were like two hummingbirds who had also never met.

2) Gently Drifting

The little boat gently drifted across the pond,
exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't.

3) Vocabulary

Her vocabulary was as bad as...like, whatever.

Smiles for similes &mdash 08/11/06 - 12:05:34 PM
1) Creative, expository, light, capricious, infectious (especially the
sneeze).

2) Enchanting, airy, atmospheric, wet, delicious, floating, harmonic.

3) Tough, raucous, sassy, hip, hop, pedal to the metal, dance floor
sensation ... make it longer!

Like, I like!

I love your sense of humor and it's fun to hear you doing something
bright and upbeat and funny. I agree with Mr. Schletty, the third
section is cool and I think it's a genre of music I'd like to see you
explore more because you're good at it (see Blur) :-)

:D &mdash 08/11/06 - 12:48:08 PM
This song is as fun as - you know - plain ol' "funness"!

I just love that hummingbird metaphor!
And that third part is a real hoot!

Again: :D

ROFLicous &mdash 08/11/06 - 01:34:01 PM
I never thought of setting internet funnies to music... I have the long
list of these somewhere. I don't remember if these are part of the
Bulwer-Lytton ("It was a dark and stormy night", http://www.bulwer-
lytton.com/) parodies, or if they are a separate thing, but I loved
them... they were whimsically absurd, one of my favorite kinds of
humor. Your backdrop music, and your vocal swirls around each, are
as always very nicely thought out and delightfully performed! Thanks
for the great smirx! The only thing I can think of to critique, is that
near the beginning of the last segment, there's a growly synth that
descends slowly down in pitch into the basement, which was a really
cool sound, but I wanted it to rattle my molars when it got really low...
but it seemed to be missing some bass EQ. I'd have boosted the bass
on that one instrument so it rattled my headphones off :-) Given that
totally useless minor nitpick, you can see that I really have no
complaints on this! :-)

Drakonis

A Good Laugh! &mdash 08/11/06 - 02:06:42 PM
These are wonderfully put together, with just, like, uh, those classic high school-isms ya know.

Why is education important? &mdash 08/11/06 - 07:22:15 PM
Funny! And really lovely vocal harmonies in the background of the first
two. The techno loop bit at the end is kicking!

Why is education important? Because in a democracy it sucks to be
surrounded by idiots.

Say hi to your inner valley girl for me. :)
Thank you very much - I needed to hear something light-hearted.

I cried &mdash 08/12/06 - 09:47:49 AM
Well, there were tears in my eyes, but they were from laughter. More,
more! These are like pop culture haiku. Very cleverly done!

See, I, for one, am reassured... &mdash 08/12/06 - 10:00:11 PM
...when I find evidence that there are smart people, by which I mean
intelligent people, who also have senses of humor....

I find this reassuring, is what I'm saying.

Helps me sleep at night.

BUT... &mdash 08/12/06 - 10:04:09 PM
I am not stupid, and I did NOT hear any cowbell. I don't like being teased
about the whole cowbell thing. Yeah, yeah, big joke, we're all in the
MacJams cowbell thing, BUT SOME OF US LOOK FORWARD TO COWBELL
and after a while the constant disappointment just builds up...

So send me an email or something when there's really cowbell, and I
mean QUALITY cowbell, and lots of it, in one of your tunes, 'cause I can't
keep being let down.

BUT...COWBELL! &mdash 08/13/06 - 01:05:40 AM
Pffft.

In the third song, cowbell occurs twice. The first is heavily reverb'd so it's in
the background, just after I say "Like, okay..."
The second instance is at the very end of the song, after the chorus. It's
basically just one synth and the cowbell that finishes it off before the final
"WhatEVER!"

:)

THANK YOU!!! :) &mdash 08/13/06 - 01:10:01 AM
For all the listens, laughs, and comments, THANK YOU!

Despite all the ethereal, minor-keyed and serious music I do...yeah...I
do have quite the odd sense of humor and it's fun to share it with
everyone here.

Thanks again for the comments and for laughing with me :)
(Ok..maybe laughing at me, too ;)

Hahahaha &mdash 08/13/06 - 09:43:20 AM
Like ok, I wasn't expecting the three movements to be so like, radically
different. Very funny use of your great voice. I love those wakadoo
metaphors and similes. Thanks for the laffs!

Wow... &mdash 08/17/06 - 01:51:17 PM
What a wonderful sonic pastiche! Your creativity is ever refreshing. Love
the humor. The third part is over the top. Rockin and slightly sensual.
Very well done!

Take care!

imagine exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't drift &mdash 08/18/06 - 02:50:19 AM
This was just wonderful. I especially dig those hummingbirds. Think
you should make a full-size song out of that part. And with full size
lyrics! if you could find, or make up, the rest. I predict a hit!

These lyrics are great. Set my mind in an interesting state. Some
people meditate over silly contradictions as a way to get wiser. I think
these sentences would be better. Something interesting happens when
I try to imagine exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn't drift across a
pond. Or how it feels to have never met someone, like hummingbirds
who had also never met.

This was great - great fun. Philosophical, and, well, you know... Especially
liked the sneeze.

You are wicked! &mdash 10/07/06 - 07:20:41 PM
Poetic... ethereal... airy at first... One gets sucked into heavenly
weightlessness of your melodious voice... then it comes crushing with
the heavy thud of ruthless humor. It is so intelligent in its silliness. This
is like.. duh.. you know, whatever! Totally loved it. Who would have
though you have that side of you, Mysti.
