All I Know (1)ez mac (1)Jill (2)Steely Dan (1)A Love Supreme (1)
Description:
This is one of those songs that's a blueprint of a certain block of time...each detail is an actual event or memory...the whole song wrote itself stream of consciousness style. There are only 3 people that are aware of exactly what every line in this song means. That may make it unaccessable to some listeners, but it's such a snapshot that the paint was dry on the lyrics the first time through-there could really be no editing without changing history.

Lyrics:
Sittin around listenin to Jill
Chewing some big red
Sippin a slurpee
Thinking bout all the things we said
I got my headphones on
(I sniff)
My studio still smells like you
I got your scent down pat
Don't want this mess to be true

All I know is I miss you
All I know is I care
I'm just dyin to kiss you

I want you everywhere

I'm feelin so low
Your girl called me today
Askin me
Should she take you back
What was I to say
Is there no way to turn this back
To 6 am
To Steely Dan
And ez mac
'A Love Supreme'
Johnny C
Play your saxophone for me and only me

I got no answers
Just this pain in my chest
You're on my mind
You're in my heart
I'd like to think we did our best

Keep on comin' &mdash 08/17/06 - 01:56:35 PM
I listened to "Turn it Over" and now this. Heather, you're batting a
thousand so far. This song just moves you along. My only criticism--and
it's a small one--is the ending. I didn't like the quick fade. I wanted it to
end on a "tougher" note. (Hope that makes sense.) But a terrific song!

i like &mdash 08/17/06 - 07:51:57 PM
i don't know much about this genre, but i know i like this!

a tiny tiny bit of reverb on the vocals might be nice.

the end seems too abrupt - it feels like it wants to break out into a a few
bars of improvisation, and perhaps just one more repeat of something (?
the chorus) maybe even the first part of the intro "sittin around listenin..."

thank you very much.

Oh Yeah! &mdash 08/18/06 - 12:41:37 PM
Ya know, I have to agree with all the rest. Need to extend that jam at
the end, but hey on the flipside, it leaves ya wanting more...alot more!
Great job on this one, love them jazzy changes you came up with...how
did you do that? Amazing! Overall I always thought this was such a
well written song and to do that in the soul jazz genre is no small
wonder. Keep up the awesome work.

Another excellent track! &mdash 08/18/06 - 06:17:56 PM
Another excellent track Heather - this is really seriously great music -
it's what I'd buy if I heard it on the radio. The Steely Dan reference did
it for me lyrically (my granddaughter is called "Aja"!). I don't need to
tell you that you have a great voice, write great songs and your band is
amazing. The fade seems uncharacteristically inappropriate here - was
it just a last minute decision before posting?? I would have loved for
you and the band to have a chance to jam it out.
Thanks for this - can you please let me know when you plan to upload
in the future so I can hold off : )

Amazing &mdash 08/18/06 - 06:49:12 PM
Outstanding stuff here; totally pro sound (singing, arrangement, mix,
performances, everything). The main thing that grabs me is the amazing
voice. Stunning! Sounds a bit like Sade to me.

And yeah, that fade out at the end seems WAY too abrupt, like you
suddenly all realized you were double parked and had to get out in a
hurry! I'd love to keep listening to this longer, so, as others have
suggested, a jam would go down good at the end.

oh wow! &mdash 08/18/06 - 09:20:22 PM
Soul...well this is just wonderful. The mix is squeeky clean and the
instruments sound real. Something is missing though i'm not quite sure
what it is. Maybe I don't like the way the piano drops chords on beat one
during the verse. I'd like a little rhythm. I think the main thing that bugs
me is the bass line. It tends to play on the 3rd intervals which pull the
chords away from home. I'd also like to hear more bass action in the
chorus. I shouldn't be so critical though. This is by far the best soul track
i've heard at MJ so far! Definatly keep doing what you're doing, the vocals
are great!

Excellent &mdash 08/19/06 - 10:25:03 AM
Top notch. Excellent vocals: great stylings and performance, fantastic
production. I dig all the lyric details. Great cross-over track, soul/jazz/
pop, it all works.

Excellent &mdash 08/19/06 - 10:26:20 AM
...but I really wanted the guitar solo to kick in and keep going. Is this an
abridged version? (Shoot the guy on the fader.)

I agree about the guitar solo... but I had to look up the Oxford Thesaurus of English to get the meaning of ''abridged'':) LOL

All things work sooo smooth in this piece. That guitarist of yours is indeed worth money. Very cool stuff.
The piano is also hip and with a great choice of sound. I could go on like this on every gizmo played here. Impressive and genius work all over. The sexy bass, creative drums...

Your voice is down right sexy and cool.

I would fan you twice if possible.
Any chance of getting backstage passes to your gigs;)

Thanks to all!! &mdash 08/20/06 - 02:55:38 PM
Wow, thanks so much for all the great feedback. Being brand new to
MacJams, I didn't know what to expect. Thanks to Hectorious for
turning me on to this amazing musical community! We still play
together here in Ft. Myers and I'm really proud of our musical collabs.
I so much appreciate the comments and criticisms alike...here's some
more info on 'All I Know':
As some of you probably know, I'm in a band with TMR Soul. He
played guitar, sax and some synth on this track and also was the main
producer of our album "Turn It Over.' His talent is ridiculous and his
energy and love for this music is a thing of beauty. Darrell Nutt plays
drums here and also on most of the tracks to come. I played keys and
also did the bass part on keys with a patch from my Triton rack. I'm
feeling all of you on the ending-truth be told, this was the way I ended
it when I first wrote and recorded it 2 years ago, and both TMRSoul and
Darrell wanted to extend the jam. The paint had already dried for me
and I just couldn't hear it any other way. We actually did try to
lengthen it, but there was some technical issues with things lining up
and such-we recorded different parts in all 3 of our home studios and
sometimes files get freaky and won't cooperate. Anyway, thanks again
for listening and taking the time to comment. More to come...peace
and blessings, hb

TWIZZLE STICKS! &mdash 08/20/06 - 06:41:32 PM
Uhh reminds me of Corn bread and womans stockings on a sunday? I think you could do with out the line sipping on a slurpy? Uhhh? Are you serious? Lets go on a date! I like slush puppies!

Alright! &mdash 08/20/06 - 11:00:31 PM
Finally, someone who gets it! Just kidding. Thanks for your post-I checked out
your stuff out of curiosity...although I appreciate your efforts to span and
supercede every genre, you're no Frank Zappa! Your 'jazz' track is a few ultra
basic guitar chords with someone playing a really nice trumpet line. There's
definitely talent inside you, but your need to depict yourself as being so far out
there beyond the reach of other mortal musicians could alienate you from some
cool things you haven't covered yet. Just a thought.
P.S. I don't wear stockings, but I do love cornbread and slurpees! Happy Trails!

I left you hi marks and a killer comment yesterday... I came back today
to hear this again and I see the comment didn't stick... now this one
will problebly post twice... oh well!!! this is dripping with soul and
feel... your vox performance is certainly raising the bar here...and
welcome by the way... what a fresh additon to MJ... your vox
screams.... "HEATHER IS VERY COMFORTABLE IN HER SKIN".... you make
this sound effortless... OK I've gushed... the upshot is I really
appreiciate the authentic work here... and I also wasn't ready for it to
end...."Leave em wantin more"

bravo

keep turning it &mdash 08/22/06 - 08:18:04 AM
slippery. every part is so cool. i put in my vote to extend the jam, regardless of technical difficulties. just put an ocean surf sound over it to cover any flubs. (more guitar!) but, seriously, your voice is to die for. kudos to you and mike for a great track.

slippery-i like that! &mdash 08/23/06 - 10:59:10 AM
Suzanne-thanks for listening. I really appreciate the vocal compliment-I'm
pretty sure you're already listening to TMRSoul and also a really oustanding
drummer we play with just joined MacJams-Darrell Nutt. I'm looking forward to
listening to your music! Peace and blessings
