Description:
I was at a friend's place the other day and was watching these pictures flip by on her computer screen. Sad little dog pictures and one just STUCK with me and I couldn't get it out of my head - I have used it as the album art for this song. She works with an organization that rescues animals from kill shelters in Louisianna (people aren't the only ones affected by Hurricane Katrina) !!! For more information visit this website: www.1atatimerescue.com I decided that these "dawgs" needed a tune about them ... this is another in one of my "odd experimental styles" and again I was drawn to the original stylings of BAD SMELLS and chose one of their tunes as the backdrop for my "sad dawg saga". (found here: http://www.macjams.com/song/22761). As usual ... this is another song with lots of twists ... turns ... and changes throughout. p.s. the spoken parts are the "dawgs" talking !

Lyrics:
Intro:

Save me - Save me his eyes said … oh save me
I’m just as good as you - I’m faithful and I’m loyal
God gave me life too
Save me from this place – I’m so scared and lonely
Save me from this place
I need to love you and I think you need to love me too

Went down to Louisianna - My brain full of “why’s”
There was a little dog there - With hope in his eyes
Huddled in the corner - Finding solace in a friend
But I came down to rescue him - A hand I came to lend

Chorus

Save me he said … Save me his sad eyes said - oh save me
I’m as good as you - I’m faithful and I’m loyal
God gave me life too
Oh save me – save me

One look into those sad eyes - And I knew what I was meant to do
Hundreds of abandoned souls - Who all needed love too
Homes for these friends I would find

Chorus

Save me his eyes said
I’m just as good as you - I’m faithful and I’m loyal
God gave me life too
I need you to love me and I need to love you too

Save me – save me his sad eyes said
I’m just as good as you – I’m faithful and I’m loyal
God made me too – God made me too
So I bring them all home with me - And nurse them back to health
5,000 miles away from home - to hearts that are rich with wealth
For the faithful breed - Who give us so much love
Who were abandoned - By nature’s cruel, cruel glove

Chorus

Save me his eyes said … oh save me
I’m just as good as you - I’m faithful and I’m loyal
God made me too - God made me too for you

Save me … Save me …..
Save me his eyes said … oh save me
I’m just as good as you - I’m loyal and I’m faithful and
God made me too - God made me too

Save me … save me … save me ……

To be honest..... &mdash 08/23/06 - 09:39:06 PM
....I could just barely get through listening to this. Not a comment on the
quality by any means, but my heart breaks when I think about the plight
of the four-legged victims of Katrina. Plus, I like dogs better than people.
Just looking at the song art, I could feel tears welling up.

This is a wonderful tune. Very moving. Thank you for bringing this to
people's attention.

Thanks so much !!!! &mdash 08/24/06 - 11:52:15 PM
for the comment JGurner ... this song has been posted for a WEEK NOW and you are the FIRST ONE TO COMMENT .... I have created a condensed version of this song which will hopefully end up on the website (along with an equally HEART WRENCHING photo show). All part of the "awareness" thing .....

Okay, &mdash 09/09/06 - 08:49:36 AM
so I've got a soft spot in my heart for our furry friends and you've shoved
a red hot poker through it. Good on you. If there are blessings to be had
in this world, may they be showered upon you. This resounds with my
general opinion that, if you want to change this world, stop praying, get
off your knees, and do something to about it. It's admirable that you
have. As far as the song, I think it's terrific. Excellent adaptation you've
created, with beautiful singing and lyrics. Loved the music too. I think
you've made a bluegrass fan of me. Oh, and I've been wondering where
you've been also, but I fade in and out of here myself, and I figured the
real world must be keeping you busy. It's moving to see that it was with
such a noble cause.

the more people I meet &mdash 09/09/06 - 10:35:31 AM
the more i like my dog. as good as this is, it still retains a genuine
improvisional feel. thats something i always enjoy in a tune. certainly a
heart tugger. your wonderful voice brings real traction to an oft
overlooked problem.
we are in the middle of searching shelters for another family member
after recently losing our best friend of 14 years.

Wow, so unique. &mdash 09/10/06 - 04:43:52 PM
This is so malencholy in its production, instrumentation, arrangement and
performance. I really like it. It defies all that is pop. This could totally be
soundtrack material the way it drifts and lilts and just general refuses to
stay put. I really enjoyed the creativity in this. The ending is so abrasive.
It's perfect. Good job.

Not sure why you don't think you are getting enough feedback. You get
more than many. Maybe you were pimping your tracks after we spoke!

Nice subject matter. Yet, the song transcends the this.

If you didn't write what this song was about, I would have elevated it to a
song about the human condition.

Well chosen backing. It works.

And as always, your singing is spot on.

Aww... poor doggy. &mdash 10/07/06 - 07:08:54 PM
Wow.. those dogs look cute. Somwhere in China, hey must taste good
in somebody's stew, too. LOL.

Not to be insensitive... I was just kidding, Alannah. I've sworn off
eastern delicacy. Dogs are the most loyal creatures on earth, and true,
God made them, too. I had five of them at one point in my life and
they were my dearest possessions.

Thanks for speaking out, and singing, about the plight of these lesser
creatures. Your song is really unique, and Bad Smells always manages
to come up with something musically intriguing and unconventional.

Did you have a haircut or something? &mdash 10/07/06 - 07:12:36 PM
By the way... I miss your flaming red photo! Your new avatar ain't bad looking
either, but you look kinda computerized. :-)

good blues-based song, that builds and sends an importance message. Thank you for sharing these thoughts.

Soo sad. &mdash 05/31/08 - 01:35:09 AM
You sang this wonderful and with such emotion. I am actually terrified of dogs. And even though that is the case. I would never harm any iiving creature and its so sad to see any animal in distress. I am a cat lover myself. My cat is called Smokey. That Hurricane was a nasty one too.

Thanks for the download

Peace Dee x
