Description:
This is a song I wrote for my wife, she returns to her parents home in France every summer with our children and the experience leaves her feeling very nostalgic and reflective. In the photograph she is the little girl on the left.
Lyrics:
It started without thinking about it,Memories came back to her.
The way the light played on the moment,
And her children's voices calling.
She's standing at the door,
They're lying in the shade.
Beneath a sky where a lone cloud strays.
There in the place where Isabelle played.
The smallest things bring her back there
Her mother standing in the kitchen
The pattern on her childhood bedroom wall
A broken doll she remembers falling
She feels it in the air
The frailty of time
Like dreams in the night
That never seem to fade
There in the place where Isabelle played.
She's standing at the door
She's rolling back the years
Secrets she'd forgotten
Little promises she'd made
There in the place where Isabelle played.

Nicely done Will - I really like these personal songs - for me they are
definitely the easiest to write and the ones which best stand the test of
time. At first I wasn't too sure about the persussion/drums, but as the
song went on, they seemed more and more appropriate. Minor nit is
that you haven't left enough room at the end so that the song has the
chance to fade out - simply a matter of moving the marker a little I
suspect. Like the lyrics and simple melody - reminds me of someone,
but can't think who.
Wish I had an excuse to visit France every summer!!

Thanks for your comments Neil, Yeah I've got to sort the ending out and soften
it abit, and the bass needs redoing, but I decided to post as is, to get some
feedback.

Really nice song. Understated in just the right way that it comes off like a
personal conversation. Unlike jiguma I find personal songs really hard to
write. (Hummm...I wonder what that says about me?) Anyway, this is so
real and rings so true that I could see each line in my head. Many thanks.

Very sweet, hearfelt song, almost like a painting. I think your wife is
lucky to have such a nice song written for her!

You Guitar is so nice. The tone captures the solitude of the feelings you
had when this song came through you. The total sound is so nostalgic,
dripping with a sadness( the frailty of time) the kind of tune you want to
save for speciaal times.
Its songs like this that almot make me put my stuff away.
I love macjams for there would be none of this without the sharing.
(I here on the computer upstairs
my daughter Emily is listening to macjams with a friend. The new way.
A children song she likes.
Anyway...Great song!

You brought me home, to Ireland, especially where my beautiful Irish Rose grew up, in Dublin, she was a tom boy,and beat up all the boys playing a game on skates, like hockey, but she was alaways a lady.Loved music, and had the charm of the stone, took me all over to show me her places. Then we went to Galway,my home.
Thanks a million,
Seamus

Great songwriting, understated but full of emotion. Wonderful
melodies in voice and guitar. Lyrics are superb. I think it's so full of
love..that's the best part.

Wow man, this is an extroridnary beautiful and touching song. I couldn't resist replaying it several times. The guitar noodling sound is extraordinary, and your voice fits exactly with the melancholic mood of the track.
Walter
pensive...evocative. Vivid lyrical imagery. Nice vox and guitar work. Good
stuff!
Be well!

That was especially beautiful - I like the tenderness that comes across in your picking - Why don't I know that you play this well... Anyhoo, this is a very special piece and it had to make your wife cry if it's got me clouding up - I also like your delivery of this piece - The percussive thing was a nice touch too - Just enough... Can't download it, but I can fav it to remind me to do so at a later day - Very nice - Thank you sir. And thanks to Walter for sending me here - Dion

You offer me something I cannot return; sweet sweet music. This is an A
recording.

this post is packed full of subtleties... you certainly have touched on
the emotional threads that we all can relate to... this is very effective
writing... I love how the line "There in the place where Isabelle played"
is only 7 words, but it says so much.... the song also reflects an
unusually good communication between you and your wife... the
melody works very well weaving through the chords and propelling the
story forward... the guitars sound great... On a recording like this, I
would like to here the voice be a little more immediate and intimate...
I'm not sure what kind of mike you are using for vox.. but sometimes
proximity to the mike can produce this

That's a lovely song. Terrific, heart touching lyrics. Excellent
performance on the guitar and fine delivery on the vocals. Wouldn't
change a thing. Bravo.

I think the drums fit really well too, great nostalgic tune.
Good job, I really enjoyed this song. Excellent writing and performance! Very relaxing and laid back, while at the same time holding my curiosity with the lyrics.
Keep it up!
feel the emotion in the guitar and the singing it is full of feeling and the lyrics are composed with great care, to bring the listener to understand the way your wife feels about her life. Her attachement to that place where she grew up I like this song very much

right from the heart. well done.
no comments on it , because its good!
i cant judge a song negative if its an emotional song.
because then i'll judge someones personality, and i wont do that.!!
i love this song!

excellent vocals and production.

A very beautiful and touching song from the hearth for your wife. Very well done. Bravo...

That's just the nicest song. Thanks for sharing

What surprises me in this song is the eloquent empathy for your wife's situation/emotion; if it were your own, that's one thing, but this is a whole next level of writing. Very well done, a pleasure listening.
I like your guitar work. Sounds "classical" to me.
Beautiful lyrics.
Well done!
michael2
really nice, especially the unxpected minor chord changes. i personally like the drums, reminds me of the Velvet Underground. the sound of the vocals and guitar is perfect as well. maybe i need to spring for a condenser mic, what are you using?

Sensitive and meaningful lyrics...a love song for your wife. Touching. Thank you.

...quite a bit, of my daughter's childhood years...and how much I miss them...so much...still love her so much. But the childhood years are golden.
