Sometimes vowels sound different
Sometimes they say their names
Sometimes a word will end with “e”
And have a vowel sound change
Please don’t be discouraged
By a word that ends with “e”
There is a simple rule I know
To read these words with ease

Look for Silent “e”
At the end of a word he’ll be
He won’t make a sound but another vowel is found
To say it’s name you see

One day in the kitchen
Your mom may bake a cake
Without an “e” she’d bak_ a cak_
Now doesn’t that sound great
If silent “e” is missing
The bell would chim_ not chime
The cake would burn because the clock told tim_ instead of time
