Lyrics of my Soulwords and music by arin
You say that you're listening/You think that you're hearing/Then why am I feeling a blank stare stab through me?/My voice seems to sink/To the depths of a deep sea/And when the fog is rolling in you hardly see me.
Who?/Who will throw a net to catch my words?/Who? Who will hold the cup when my heart overflows?/Who will have the time?/Who will have a chance to?/Listen to me and hear/Hear what I have to say/Close your eyes if it helps/Helps you to/Concentrate and Evaluate while I Articulate the lyrics of my soul.
I don't care to be the one/Who is left behind/
I only long to share/ a part of my inner mind/I let down my defenses/I'm pouring out my every thought/I'd hoped you'd be the one to care/But I can see that you are not.

Your vocals carry the track, sound really good, with good pop clarity, a
little Cranberries' stylings, and artful articulations (fitting for the chorus
lyric). In my ears, the drums are too busy for the ballad feel. It is such a
relief when they drop out a moment at "I don't care." Consider a version
with simpler brushes or something laid back that trusts your vocals to
carry the track. Rhythm acoustic guitar would work well too to keep the
rhythm going. (If you do redo it, consider cutting a few repeats, too; it
went on a tad too long for me. I like the end repeats, but some stuff 2/3s
in got a bit long for me.) I really like listening to your vocals on this, so
nice.

You have a great voice. I have to agree with Tobin about the drums being
a bit too busy. Also they start right at the beginning and tend to
dominate the tune whereas starting with the piano to set the mood and
letting drums come in later might compliment the song better. I also
agree that the song could be cut and be much stronger for it.
All that said, I do like this very much. I'm new to MJ and will definately go
back and listen to more of your stuff. Enjoyed it.
I guess I agree and disagree with the earlier posts. The vocals are
fantastic and really carry the tune. Me... I like the drumming ... maybe a
bit more swing, but they sound great, making this very modern and (dare
I say) radio friendly. Keep them coming....I hope to be able to collaborate
with you at sometime arin.

Very good lyrics too. I'm especially taken with the rhythm of "Concentrate
and Evaluate while I Articulate".
Regarding the arrangement, I'm wondering what this would sound like
adding just a tiny touch of electronica synths/beats to compliment where
the drums are heading without distracting from the vocals.

Arin, great tune. Like "Rear View Mirror" the rythym section plays it funky and a little syncopated. I enjoy listening to your music. This in particular is an excellent track. Might have carried a bit long, but its obvious on passion.

.. I too can hear the Cranberries style or influence ..
nice piano playing too.

You're brilliant. :)
Have you listened to any missy higgins? You should... she's great and reminds me of you.
Arin
hi dom. thanks for checking out some songs : ) I need to set aside time to listen to more music on here. Silly school. Ah well-- see you around. :)

I didn't like this, but the drums and chorus really pulled me in. Has a very good feel and your vocals are what pulls it together.

what a voice, really very relaxing yet interesting piece of music. As well as Cranberries, i hear elements of Dido creeping in. And i sure like Dido.
Will be sure to keep tabs on the rest of your work.
Thanks!
