Description:
Responding to The Orbiting's invitation to remix their song, I came up with this Bossa Nova version. I replaced all the midi and loop guitars with real guitars, added Drums on Demand Volume 6 loops, changed some sounds in the original music track, played bass guitar, added a plucked real viola track, and tweaked the main vocal track in Peak. I did change some of the chords in the music, as the sung melody allowed for that, making the song into something really pretty different from the original. Since that seemed to be implied in the invitation to remix, I hope that's okay. I've always wanted to work with ledeb and so I tried to make the most of it.
Lyrics:
SaturnineAn empty book,
filled with photographs of you,
on the Great Wall of China,
Brooklyn, 1992.
Can't take back now what you've left behind.
We all fall,
(Endings never escape shame.)
We all fall
(Aren't you the one who never had a reason for love?)
We all fall
(and who will bear the blame?)
You're pulling faces now,
every feature in a frown.
It's our wedding day
and you said you didn't like my gown.
Can't give you now what I've left behind.
(and who's to blame?)
We all fall
we all fall
(and I'm not to blame)
Every photo fades,
the ink it drains away,
and in my empty book,
the pages start to fray.
I wonder if you know what you've missed.
We all fall...

The top of my head fell off when I smiled too much.
Excellent remix of an excellent song.
ledebutant
The top of my head is on the floor next to Mungo's. I can't think either.
I've been sitting here with my hand over my mouth, trying not to be a
geek and cry because I'm so completely blown away!!!
I really can't think. I'll be back in a minute to comment more sensibly.

...in a golden cage...on a winter's day...
This is stunning, Jim.
It's true to ledeb/The Orbiting, but it's an amazing step away into a
psychedelic acoustic place that somehow, now that I'm hearing it, is
what my mind always wanted to hear ledeb doing...
Very cool. Into the remix collection and iPod it goes, with gratitude.
THis is my idea of excellent.
I'm drop-jawed.

Never has trauma seemed so carefree! Jim, you've taken our little song of
of mystery and misery and sent it on vacation. We needed that!

thought of It's a Beautiful Day but with the plucked viola it's hard not
to. :)
This is one terrific job JB. I haven't heard the original but this may be
one of those remixes that I just listen to without any desire to hear
what spawned it.
I don't think I've ever heard Ledeb sound better.
Stun Nutz
Wow... another great version of a great song. The instrumentation on this is wonderfully fluid and I just love everything you have added to this.
Stun Nutz
I just realized my first sentence sounds a lot like Mungo's second sentence!
Stun Nutz
..and I forgot to mention that the top of my head is the cream filling between Mungo and Ledebutant's head tops.
The Orbiting
Not sure that this will post, because the comment form is offline,
apparently, but I wanted to give it a shot and thank you from the
bottom of my heart for the effort and time and creativity you put into
your version of this song. It's pretty powerful to hear another take on
our music, let alone a take by a musician of your caliber, Jim. So, thank
you a million times over.

Wow, what an amazing transformation. I'm completely blown away, what an excellent remix of a great song.

I never heard the original but I guess I should. I really like what you've
done here. The combination of real and unreal instrument sounds makes
for a very unique and lush landscape. Obviously the vocals are from the
original; I really like the performance and the treatment.
Very trippy. You definitely gave it the Bouchard sound which I always like.

You have made wonders to this song!
Very pleasant and most interesting listening!
Great REMIX...LOVE IT.
Very nice...very nice, indeed.

gorgious mix!

Pick of the bunch here Jim! I love the original song, but I think this has
taken it onto a new level altogether. Your creative playing/mixing has
made this sound as if it was the original idea of the song. Excellent
playing, excellent remix, amazing skill and craftsmanship.
Have I got the idea across that I like this? :)

since the reply function is not working right now, I'll just say thanks so
much for all the kind words everybody. Aw shucks, I'm really sort of
abashed at all the superlatives. I had fun playing with this song. The main
problem that I had with the .band files for this is that I couldn't play them
for very long before they'd lock up, on my little eMac which is rapidly
running out of room, and so I was shooting in the dark a little bit in
actually remixing the original tracks. So I came up with something
new...I've been listening to a lot of latin music lately, mostly Milton
Nascimento and Sara Valanzuela, and this sort of feel seemed to be a
natural for the sort of chord progression that I was working with.

Now that's what I'm talking about....KICK ASS!!!

I know a great song when I try to pay attention to the lyrics and the music distracts me too much. This song just transports me away.
Love it!

This version is really cool and trippy! Total hippy track! Very cool!

This is AMAZING! I should have listened to this a lot earlier... the feel is
hypnotic, lulling me right into the mix, and there's tons and tons of
interesting things going on all the time. I am blown away.
If this isn't a 10, I don't know what is.

This is an astounding remix. I loved the original and love this version as well. A completely new look at the structure of the original song. Very cool....great work!
j2morrow
The way you rethought this and transformed it is amazing. In my opinion
a great song just got better. This isn't satunine or taciturn at all...it's a
wonderful inviting song. Kudos.
Good lsd helper. Nice song
darksun48

Beautiful, beautiful, BEA-U-TI-FUL re-mix! Another head hits the floor.
Well done Jim!

This truly shows the power of what can be done through a music arrangement. You can change moods and even meaning of a song with the artistic positioning of new lines chord changes etc.
Great Job on this one.

I had to listen. I like it LOTS. I'll have to seek out the ooriginal, now, to hear the differences. The overall sound is very cool, sounds professional all the way
whatching clouds , having a very good time listening to this .
It's a brilliant remix. I do think the vocal is a little bright.. the "S's" are a little harsh for me. I think they could be smoothed into the music a little better. But really GOOD.
