Description:
You have probably already heard the fabulous original 'Saturnine' by The Orbiting, Brandon at the Estate remix, Jim Bouchard's version and The Infinites' B52s-like 'Saturnine Ecosse'. if not, go now, all this tracks are absolutely cool!

This is my contribution to the Saturnine remixes request. It's quite different from the other oh-so-great remixes and versions. it's more... erm... datafunk like. For this remix I only kept the voice part (thanks for the file Lisa!) and build a total new instru. Basically, I added a beat, a bassline and some kind of jazzy piano. ride on.

This was a real pleasure working on it since it's the very first time I have the chance to play with a real and beautiful singing part. I hope I did not screw Saturnine too much... people will start hating me then ;-)

Lyrics:
(few sentences were removed from original mix)

We all fall
we all fall

An empty book,
filled with photographs of you,
on the Great Wall of China,
Brooklyn, 1992.

We all fall
we all fall

You're pulling faces now,
every feature in a frown.
It's our wedding day
and you said you didn't like my gown.

Can't give you now what I've left behind.

We all fall
we all fall

Every photo fades,
the ink it drains away,
and in my empty book,
the pages start to fray.

I wonder if you know what you've missed.

This song is caramel melting on the dashboard of a cruising porsche,
driving down Route 1 on the way to Monterey.
Yes, that is what this song is.

I love it!

What a killer backing track you've made here d-funk. This is one I'd
download even if I weren't 'singing' on it. ;-) You've also done some
interesting things with the f/x and echoes on the vocal; the layering
you've done is really, really cool.

The star here truly is the funky instruments you added. I especially dig
the bassline, because it's funkalicious.

Thank you so much for the time and effort you put into making this. I'll
be enjoying it for a looooooong time.

you know... &mdash 08/29/06 - 03:23:08 PM
...as a general rule, I like almost all the stuff you make. With that being said (heh heh) I thought that some of the elements in this fought against the mysterious vocals. I think it was the upbeat jazzy bits. It just didn't work for me... also, I thought that the beat should have been varied a bit more. Wow. Have I ever given you criticism like this?

I did like the section that starts just before the halfway mark, though... with the driving synths. That was groovy.

Creative take on this, dfunk. Nice'n'new soundplace for Lisa's vocals, original and different. About halfway through it reaches some excellent heights, very cool.

The piece sounds like something Bjork might do. Nice beat, razor cuts, sly
piano, hot bass.

This one belongs on one of the "Verve Remixed" Albums that are so popular right now. Nicely done.
