Great! Such an nice guitar arrangement. The vocals blend well. The mix is really clean which is hard to do when it's just you and the guitar. The only thing that caught my attention was the fade, It caught me by surprise. I was expecting the song to end on a strum. But what do I know. I think this is your best so far. Thanks for sharing. Some Great Pegged-Leg Pickin' You've got a great combination of guitar and vocals tones. I like that it's about pirates, but it dosn't sound like a pirate song. Good writing and good performance! |

Great picking, Steve. I like your melody here, and I like the structure you've created. Very good folk feel without sounding 'faux folk' to me. Nice low key delivery. Can't wait to hear the expansion... I'll make one small vocal suggestion, which is that sometimes, and I hear it particularly in this song, you do a sort of slide on the last note of the line, as for instance on "sailed the seven se-eas", and over the course of a song it almost sounds as if you're not sure where the melody is...And it sounds like an habitual embellishment rather than an intentional one... If you're going to expand this, it might be good to sing it a couple hundred times, find the note that finishes the line strongest, and just sing that one. Aim right at it. I say this as someone who is already very much liking this song. I love the guitar work, and I like the melody, so I'm really wanting this song to be the strongest, starkest lovely murder ballad it can be. My son's in a pirate phase right now... Yeah, expand it! This is just terrific. Nice guitar and vocals. I heard some cuts that Sting and other well-known musicians did for an album with a pirate theme. This beats what I heard hands down.
