Description:
The original Saturnine, by The Orbiting (illuminati and ledebutant) can be heard here:

Lisa and Matt opened up their cool tune to collaborators, and there are already a bunch of great remixes of this song. Go to The Orbiting's profile page to see a list of them. It's amazing, the diversity of approaches already applied to this song.
For this version, all that I kept from the original were the vocal tracks and a coupla loops. The new music is made of loops'n'samples from Drums on Demand, Bass on Demand, the Zero-g and Acid loop collections, and various random other sources.
Matt and Lisa, thank you! I really enjoyed mixing this tune... I was in a musical rut, then this song came along and re-sparked my interest. I hope you enjoy this PV take on your song.

Lyrics:
An empty bookfilled with photographs of you
on the Great Wall of China
Brooklyn, 1992
Can't take back now what's left behind
We all fall...
You're pulling faces now
every feature in a frown
It's our wedding day
and you said you didn't like my gown
Can't give you now what I've left behind
We all fall...
Every photo fades
the ink it drains away
and in my empty book
the pages start to fray
I wonder if you know what you've missed
We all fall...

DAVID!
More later when my brain stops giggling over and over.
This is absolutely incredible.
AquilA
and we all fall. You turn it right side up, and we all stand tall. I'm so glad
I looked in the new songs list and found this. Your brain obviously
operates in dimensions that I haven't even read about. It's like you
dissassembled a Rolls Royce and put it back together, only now it's a
Ferrari. You oughta market that PV dust. Great mix and production,
tastefully done.
This is a change of pace, pv.
Fascinating remix.
j2morrow
Listening to all the remixes is quite a treat and this one is a favorite. The
way you up the tempo and never make it conflict with the singing is wild.
Many thanks.

How much brilliance can one song encompass?
This brave experiment from The Orbiting has been a music production
university education...
Amazing to hear the tempo change here... And, while it rocks to
heavens-t'-betsy, there're also those cool acoustic touches in the
mix... What impresses, David, is that you didn't take this over and
perceptualvortexize this... It's got some of your stamp, but it also
sounds like you listened to the tune and chose to open up some
territory within it that suited what was already there... I particularly
hear that in the drums that you chose... Terrific job...
And, standard disclaimer, the original song and performance remain
somewhere beyond awesome...

great production and mix...
The Infinites
This by far the most outstanding remix of them all, for me.
The change of tempo is tremendous and the overall production is expertly
excecuted.
A triumph!

Wow, man... This is by far the most dared remix I've heard here. Loaded with tons of skills and good taste. Splendid, David!

Lisa, AquilA, Mungo, j2morrow, Ejh, Texasfeel, Vic Holman, smokeyvw, springclock, vbluesky, The Infinites, moorlandt, datafunk, fluffyasbestos, Skean, Sil-VER, illuminati, Leon, and alley-oop... thank you all for commenting and/or faving this version of Saturnine!! I very much appreciate all of your support and those super nice comments.
All of the versions of Saturnine are fascinating and creative; isn't it cool to see how one song can branch so far out when different artists shape it? Please give another round of applause to Lisa Purdy, whose beautiful voice and excellent writing seem to get stronger with each song she makes. Thank you again, illuminati and ledebutant for making and sharing the original Saturnine; I had a great time remixing it.

Such a lush sound reminiscent of my year living in Manchester (UK) for
some reason. It was the year of "Life in a Northern Town" and yet
again, this version has that vibe about it. The "up" part in the middle
defies the melody in such a cool way, and I love what you've done with
the drumming throughout.
Bottom line is that Saturnine is one of the best all-time songs
produced here at MJ, and the ongoing success of eah of the versions is
a reflection of that.
Now can everyone stop posting it so some of us mere mortals can get
back in the charts :)
Great version David.
Neil
Just simply remarkable. I was hoping to hear a more rocked up version, and you certainly delivered it to us. Jusy simply outstanding - albeit we have fully come to expect this caliber production from you. Definitely a fav, stand alone. As you have stated the other versions are all wonderful, and a taste for every genre in the making with the original concept as a base.
Very very cool. And what a cool idea!

David I have followed the evolution of this song briefly and I must say you
always amaze me at how you can take an existing track and completely
rework it and come of with something brilliant. Of course with that said I
expect nothing less from you. :-)

folks here at MJ, that I see as great musicians and then excellent
producers as well. I would have you in the latter category. Your ability
to take this and write something innovative and nuanced as this is a
testament to your abilities. Really exceptional work here.
Hectorious
I totally agree with KTB.
Your awesome man!!!!!!!!
Please work on some thing with me!!!!!!!
Can you do the drum track for :

this really shows off your production chops... really, music should be
all about ideas... nothing sounds forced... everything here is very fresh
and inovative... I really appeiciate this skill

A very radical version! (in 2 definitions of the word!)
This is great stuff, man.

I like it a lot. Am not of many words right now - need go sleep - but this
one was super nice!

This song had spawned more excellent remixes/reworkings than I have heard recently... just when you think "uh oh... another one", you hit play and think "wow... this is cool!" I am glad each version of this tune has been so different. That is what it's all about.
Great future-rock mix here, PV... glad your interest in music has been re-sparked...
Tiny_Man_Inside
there is so much going on here - tons of different sounds to wrap your head around. Lisa is the anchor, but you go pretty far out to sea here before she drags you back. The thing is, it works... Not much else to say but this is a keeper. I particularly like the intro with the Portishead-inspired drumline.

Of course I'm fav'ing this... I couldn't NOT fave it, even if I tried. I love
this! PV, you ol' romantic. you! I love the dreamy, romantic intro and
breaks in between the heavier parts. This is some serious talent here --
all of you! Me likey! Miss Chaos

You raised the bar on me dude and w/o notice - I'm sitting here listening w/ a friend - he's nicely toasted and I'm slightly buzzed and we just keep goin 'DAMN'! as this transitions from place to space and back to that place again - Dude! This is saweet! I don't understand much about what you're saying in the song description, and maybe you can enlighten me at some point, but for now, I'm just gonna leave you with - DAMN!...
i'd say more, but I'm way behind - On the later sir - And thanks - Dion

I am slowly working my way through all these Saturnine remixes...so far
they have all been pretty fab...and this one is no exception! Love the
dynamics you have going here with the strummed guitar and funkiness...
and Ledeb's lovely calm vocals at the centre....those vocal harmony bits
are particularly nice
Well done!
Steve

Hey, Nice cut.
Wasn't expecting it to break out of it's pretty spacey poetry box into this jangl-y dancey acoustic rocker. Really like this one. Then it drops you right back into space...excellent. A fav.
Boris the Bull
first off, the song art got me. i discovered this one in the
2006 MacJams Retrospective collection and i can understand
why it was chosen as a favorite.
what a magnificent piece. it's not what i expected by either the
song title or the song art, so what came next was pure delight
and surprise.
fantastic stuff and really happy i was able to check this out! thx!
***itiswotitis***
music and interesting lyrics nice treat ment on the vocals too ove the contrast between the acoustic and the electronic music and the way you have blended them so seamlessly....Very nice track!
