Description:
Another old tune of mine, revamped. This time with lyrics and inspiration from my old friend "Chops"'s experiences- hope you like it.

Kudos and thanks to MJer Didge-ache (didgeridoo) and Mark "The Winch" (Highland bagpipes) for their fantastic performances on this and making it possible and to "Tea-towel" Tomas for the loan of his bass guitar.

More complete version with vocals, corrections and didgeridoo!.

Thanks alot &mdash 09/02/06 - 07:25:33 PM

.. did you notice the didgeridoo Steve? Huh? .. lol (Didge-ache will be
fizzing, I'll never hear the end of this ...

I did my best in the mix to bring out with EQing the fantastic nuances
there is in his performance without making the didge too over-powering:
and believe me it was everywhere - bleeding into vocal and mandolin
recordings (because of transducer pick-up) .. and my ears are still ringing
from when I recorded the bagpipes.

Didge's excellent CD is available at the Lost Records.

This is friggin' great! What a cool arrangement! You get a lot of rock out
of very traditional instruments. You guys did great here. Sounds tight
and that didge really fills the bottom end. Bravo! It's catchy and just
great.

Nice combination &mdash 09/03/06 - 01:10:56 PM
of folk sounds with a pop feel. But I needed more in terms of lyrics.
Repeating them got old for me. I wanted to know a bit more about this
naughty minister's daughter. Good tune, though.

baggies and didge &mdash 09/04/06 - 04:12:03 AM
Nicely done guys - and very different from anything else going around
- which is bound to happen when you have baggies and didge
together. Like the chanting style vocal, but best bit for me is the take
off into the harmmony section. Only nit (a very small one) is that the
whole track seems to be clipping - having said that, no-one else has
mentioned it, so maybe it's my ears (I've just been to the movies). The
nit is miniscule compared to the fantastic final product you've come up
with.

I already told you I reacted with a big "wow!" when I discovered your
music. I got it again when I heard this.

This is exceptional stuff. You could really go somewhere with this.

The didge is a gorgeous new level of depth in the sound. Beautifully
animated and resonant.

I'm gobsmacked ... honestly!

Yup! &mdash 09/05/06 - 09:25:19 AM
It's as good as they all say. It might be on the verge of clipping, but just
on the verge, and not necessarily all that bad. Really cool...downloaded!

Magic....! &mdash 09/07/06 - 06:20:53 PM
If Celtic (as in Kel-tik) is the vibe, then you done it big style!

If REM had met the bagpipes, then they would have taken this path.

As they say in Scotland - "cool as mince...geez merr !!!"

Well done dudes!!!

super production &mdash 09/09/06 - 09:20:19 AM
everything sits so well in the mix. The didgeridoo is sitting down there laying a thick beautiful foundation. Simple lyrics and sharp arrangement.

This is not the type of music I usually listen to, but I'm definitely downloading it. Really one of the best pieces I've heard at MacJams.

reminds me a bit of The Mescaleros in feel.

Good "A" section... &mdash 09/11/06 - 09:09:20 AM
A very cool opening section to a song. My ears really wanted something
more to develop. Really nice sound so far. Makes me think of a hari
krishna singing outside a baptist minister's home in the moonlight...

.. well that'll be the video sorted out then!!.. *rubs hands in glee*.

Having this long stretch in 'A' was in fact one of the contributing
factors to choosing this one as a song to approach Didge-ache with
for collab.

Hmm .. I wonder if Simon has time to listen .. he can reply to this, in
his own time, no rush .. ;o) lol

great rolling music &mdash 10/10/06 - 04:41:19 PM
simple smirky alluding (allewdding?) lyrics, great strong song, nice
singing, and really good job shoe-horning in the mandolin, pipes, didge,
and guitars! The didge is soft through most of the recording, but you let
it shine here and there, which worked well. Sorry, I listened to this when
it first came out and never got back to comment until today!

Thanks Eduard &mdash 10/11/06 - 03:30:36 AM
Jason had kindly given me two tracks - they worked and were played to work together. I used both, each separate track panned equally left and right at their own separate place in the stereo field, pretty wide as I recall (no clash with other panned tracks). This created some nice oscillation effects across your head (that you can hear more with headphones) but admittedly got a bit drowned out when trying to find the didge tracks spot in the overall mix. So, I then tried to boost bits here and there to let the didge 'shine' and resonate with the bagpipes drone. Overall the didge in this lays an omni-present bass foundation.

anyhow, i wrote how i much i really enjoyed it. i discovered your piece in the 2006 MacJams Retrospective collection and what a wonderful surprise indeed.

.. appreciate you stopping by and enjoying my self nominated tune ... darn those browsers eh? ;o) - please tell me if you had some suggestions in amongst that lost post ..
and funny you mention cemeteries in passing.. hmm, not often you say that phrase .. anyway, the old drummer heard this
version and after he had stopped calling me "weirdy" the very next thing he mentioned was that he associated the church bell sound with 'funeral'... I never thought the combination of that sound and the 'pray for her soul' lyric would make people think she had past away .. doh. It's just meant to re-emphasise the 'church' aspect and I liked the tweeting birdies (as a sound filler that would re-appear at dead stop).. churches can have weddings, baptisms etc too - it might be the sound equivalent of "half full" or "half empty". I guess I would have said "she did things .."
if I wanted to really give that interpretation ..

Bagpipes AND didgeridoo! &mdash 06/07/07 - 07:41:07 AM
This couldn't miss... what a sweet, richly textured tune. Thank you for for having a boo at my bio page - yeah, I have a soft spot for anything with bagpipes, and I followed your suggestion and popped over from Long Way Home. This is a beautiful song, and to think I would have missed it otherwise. Thanks for the heads-up!

Loved this piece and the theme. It reminds me of a minister's wife I knew who didn't have a prayer! But anyways nice mix, love the bagged-pipes with the mando accents. Those two instruments really work together... have to remember that. I also was impressed by the vox tracks and lyrics... proof to me that you don't have to have a whole bunch of words to... um... have words. Really well done, APB.

I truly liked your compilation! Very innovative and appealing! I have such a weakness for hearing the bagpipes combined with any other instrument --especially in modern songs and sounds! Absolutely brilliant!
