Description:
It's pronounced "yennin soo-gra" and means something along the lines of "I'd Be Having A Bit Of Fun".
Rebsie: voices, drumming, harp
Jason: didgeridoo
Words and melody are traditional. The language is Scottish Gaelic.
A collaboration with Didge-Ache, a fellow Lost Records artist, featuring harp and didgeridoo in a tribal mix ... in so far as you can have a tribal mix of instruments which come from opposite sides of the planet. :)
Dheanainn Sùgradh is a traditional Scottish work song, and would probably have been sung by groups of people while rowing boats ... the strong rhythm helping everyone to keep their oars in sync.
Many thanks indeed to Jason, a ray of sunshine in my life as well as a very fine musician.
He's always open to collabs, so if you like what you hear then give him a shout.

Chorus:Dheanainn sùgradh ris an nigh'n dubh
'N deidh dhomh éirigh anns a' mhadainn
Dheanainn sùgradh ris an nigh'n dubh
Dheanainn sùgradh ris a' ghruagaich
Nuair a bhiodh a' sluagh nan cadal
Dheanainn sùgradh an am dùsgadh
'N am na siùil a bhith 'gam pasgadh
Di-Luain an déidh Di-Domhnaich
Dh'fhalbh sinn le Seònaid Arcaibh
Bha muir gorm a' ruith fo cuinnlein
Si cur still a grunnd an aigeil
Riof 'ga ceangal is riof 'ga fuasgladh
Muir ma guallainn fuaim is fead oirr
Null ma chaolas na Roimh
B'fheudar dhuinn am bòm a leaiseadh
Null ma chaolas na Fraing
Maide 'na là imh 's gaoth 'ga greasad
Cha robh ròpa feum a spleiadhsadh
Air mo mhaighdeann ri tighinn dhachaidh

... this is indeed 'Awesome'!!
I'm completely and utterly blown away by this - you and Didge have
realised a musical vision very powerfully. Your voice sounds divine and
that call and response phrasing is very beautiful. Excellent didging and
simple but effective percussion which perfectly complements the didge
drone. I know I might have been a bit iffy about the harp (possibly
needs to be a little further back at times) but those melodic flourishes
towards the end work very very well.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!!

Aha, at last the Reply feature is fixed ... and I have a lot of catching up to do.
Woooh, that's a pretty awesome comment in itself. Very pleased it works so well for you, with the very sparse arrangement an' all.
I'm intrigued to know what a stunt kabbage does ... roll across 12 double decker buses, perhaps?

...appearing in French Connection II where I put on a very convincing Gallic
accent for one of the car chase sequences through a Marseilles' marketplace. I
fall off a vegetable stall and roll in front of the pursuing car. I had to guage that
roll absolutely right otherwise I would have been coleslaw.

Didge and bodhrain work beautifully behind your vocal Rebsie - the answering vocals work so well - so pure and clear. I love the sound of gaelic - I guess I have a little bit inside my dark subconscious. Interestingly, I have similar feelings for the didge - something familiar and ancient. A very clever colab Jason and Rebsie. - love "somewhere in the vicinity of A" lol!

... your Gaelic vocals and the bodhrán and didge make for a wonderful accompaniment. Great to hear this combination of two ancient musical traditions.

I never would have thought of using the Didgeridu as the "drone" for
Ccletic music, but it is a forehead-slapping "duh" when I listen, it is
perfect! Jason's backing is indeed mesmerizing, and the drumming and
sprinkling of harp are perfectly mesmerizing, and your vox are, as always,
uh... where was I... oh, mesmerizing! I really enjoyed you singing the up-
front melody and the backing harmonies, delightful and warm and fun!

is solid and gives it a wonderful backdrop. The voices is sweet and angelic
along with great harps.

You are a provider of most interesting music Rebsie. I am impressed
about how you manage to find out these gems. And then about your
serious production. I get the impression that you always have an idea
of what you want to do and where you want to go. (I mean in contrast
to "just throwing in another thing").
Also I love to listen to your vocals, so a new post of yours is always
welcome.
Very well done.
Far from mainstream.

Awesome piece of music and with the brilliant blend of didge and
bagpipes...an instant download!
Jim Bouchard
there are no bagpipes, but the didge does provide a simulation that
tricked my ear!

Thanks for the journey. A collaboration made in heaven.

It's funny...although I'm many generations away from my Celtic roots (sorry, Irish not Scotish), but this music always gets to me, stirs something deep down. It's hard to explain. Just like it's hare to explain when I hear pipes play...the rest of my family doesn't get it :). Thanks for the wonderful song. The use for the didge was a great addition.

...in a long, long time... This is really...what everyone else says it
is...'awesome' and 'lovely' are making the short list...
Maybe because it has been a long time for me, I'm very impressed with
the quality of the vocals. Great pitch, which would have to be true for
the doubled vocals to sound so right, and great phrasing. A great, and
sustained, sense of rhythm...
Using the didge as the pedal note really is in keeping with what a
bagpipe would be doing... So it's new enough to catch the ear, but
doesn't jar against the traditional feel.
Well done.

What a treat to hear this!
I have a version of this song on a collection of Celtic songs, and this
interpretation/version is every bit as professional and wonderful.
What a fantastic collaboration this is!
My ears are happy :D
Thanks for this...I hope there is more coming!

Sounds so naturalistic, with that instrumentation, and such a
mysterious ancient sound... Rebsie, your voice is very pure and
melodious, and the harmonizing is gorgeous. The didge adds a very
cool nice deep texture, and the drums are perfect for this song. Great
job guys!

No comments other than beautiful and intoxicating.
I love it.

This series of Celtic recordings has been a moving journey, Rebs - you've really captured a "The Dreaming" - era Kate Bush feeling of otherworldliness here (nice syntax, eh?) - the layering and arrangement of your vocals is right snappy, very exciting and tranquil at the same time. I definitely had a bit of fun listening! Some of the harp rhythms were a bit distracting in the opening bits as they contrasted somewhat with the drumming - but in the idea of a dreamstate, this was a small nit. Very nicely done - you go over and beyond with each new entry here.

AWESOME !! the harmonies the feel everything
just love it !

You've nailed a certain sound, I really like the effect of the didgeridoo.
The words are evocative and mysterious, great work.
jgurner
....where in the world have I been. Strangely enough the didgeridoo
actually sound "right." Maybe it's the droning which in context is not
entirely unlike the drone you might hear from pipes behind something
like this. Regardless, it's a very clever mixture and done wonderfully. It's
when I hear something like this that I wish I could speak the language of
my ancestors and had been old enough to remember hearing my great-
grandmother singing songs like this.
myre
Very good song. I very very like it!! :)
Lartin Lane
A great collaboration. The vocals are amazing and along with the beats of the Bodhran and the drone of the didgeridoo( which skillfully took the place of a pipe) transports the listener back in time to a more primitive yet simplistic existence. A magical experience.

I arrived here late. Must have missed this when you first uploaded it onto MJ's.
The mix of traditional and southern traditional worked a treat.

Thank You Both !!! Lena : )

I don't think I could give it more sunshine... but I could certainly give it some spectral moonlight.
