Carnival (for Classical Guitar)

Description
The third song in a set of three - Waltz, Romance and Carnival. The names don't mean anything special (unless you look at them as courting, marriage, and parenthood, I guess.) All songs were written and played as guitar solos at one time. Here, however, I am using the software instruments from GarageBand & a JamPack. The original midi file is from a manuscript done in Finale, then mixed & cleaned up in GB.

Classical de Modern
This has a sort of Gershwin feel. There's a contradictory feel here -- a tad
reflective and pensive, and a tad playful. I love it. Have you thought of
expanding on these pieces? they're so short, but so full of potential!

Classical de Modern
I'm glad to see you around, again (not that i've been visiting too frequently,
myself). The comparison to Gershwin is flattering :) I've thought about
developing these pieces, but I tend, in general to be fairly good at writing
themes, but not developing them. However, finding out what could be improved
upon is why (ok, one reason why) i post here. Development ideas will be floating
around in my head, and I'll see if they come to fruition.

Fun
I like it. It sounds pretty convincing for software guitar. I haven't liked
any of the guitars that are on the standard garage band, but I like what
you have here. Very playful and fun. I agree that it could be a little
longer, maybe just repeat it with a little variation. good job!

Thanks for letting me know
what you think of the guitar sounds. This is actually the standard acoustic nylon
guitar from (i think) jampack 4, with my own 'classical guitar in the hallway'
sound, (which was pulled from the 'nylon shimmer' sound with track echo taken
out) layered underneath at about -4.8 decibels. So, it's one midi track copied
onto two software instrument tracks. I was impressed that I could even get a
sound that approximated my own actual playing (which tends to be a bit brittle
on attacks.)

Hello Kristyjo
Short and sweet - Nice work Krisyjo - I like MissC's take on this - I do wonder what it might sound like to expand upon, but I'm somewhat content until I can hear the others - I'm making way through my pile of email, so this could take some time - bear w/ me though - Thanks for sharring this

I'm glad you enjoyed it
I'm thinking about some thematic development along the lines of Miss C's
comment - on this, as well as the other two pieces i have already posted.
Thanks for commenting - it's good to know you're back at MacJams.

I'm glad you found it soothing
I tend toward music that is calming and relaxing. It seems that after a day at
work and watching the evening news, I really need music that is somewhat
comforting.

Sounds natural
This sounds quite real. I like this short piece. Have to listen to the other
two. Did you slow down the tempo at the end in garageband as this
seemed not to be possible?

It's possible-
Except, once you're out of the beat 'grooves' you're out. So, I do a ritardando by
stretching the last couple of measures worth out by using the pencil tool. It's
labor intensive, but it does work for me. Thanks for commenting.

Carnival
The sound you make here is really wonderful: so clean and uncomplicated. Really a delight to listen to. I can see/hear two things possibly happening with this number: 1) give it a "B" section in perhaps the relative minor key; 2) add a flute tune to float along above your chording. ... then return to your "A" section and finish wth a 4 mea. coda. ... You have the makings of a beautiful little suite. Are you writing this out?
Glad I found this piece.

Thanks for commenting
Yes, I have it written out and annotated for classical guitar. I've actually played it in concert once, when my fingers were a bit more practiced. When I played it then, I did it in tandem with 'Melancholy' making a kind of bipolar little suite.

Isn't this beautiful...
I'm sailing with this as I type. It's so nice. You obviously have played and understand the classical guitar.

Just realized you wrote the piece. Kudos, my friend. It would make a great, very touching theme for variations...

Thanks so much, Krysty.

Thanks for your comments
As I said in a previous comment, I used to play classical guitar & write for it. It was even my major instrument in college. Life has, however, taken some interesting turns that make the piano and my voice the instruments I use every day. I appreciate that you came over to listen to this short sketch.
