Description:
Hey. This is the final version of this tune I did a few months back. For this version I managed to get The composer to add drums to it. This is my first collab and I am happy to say Bryan has done a fab job as you can hear! He also helped in significantly improving the mix too with his tips, tricks and direction. Enjoy!
Lyrics:
Can’t feel his fingers or his toes from playing out in the cold,
Could’ve had a place to stay tonight but that guitar will never be sold,
You’ve heard him on the streets and you’ve seen his face around,
Walked past way past three on the way, he fills the air with sound,
On the way he fills the air with sound,
CHORUS
And he goes against the flow of everything and everyone that he know,
And it shows when he’s got a sound yeah he’d got a sound of his own.
So I talked to him the other day thought I’d lean a thing or two,
About the pictures his fingers paint and how does he do what he do,
He said, I do it for the love of it and not the love of all of you,
And I play the way my fingers play and not, how they're told to,
No no not, how they're told to.
CHORUS
And during the night he plays in my mind.. Al night,
Yeah.. I hope I don’t wake, who would want to shake the sounds he makes.
CHORUS x 2

Wow! &mdash 09/12/06 - 11:14:14 PM
Excellent song, Gave and the drums aren't too shabby, either. The mix
is really solid and I did the rock/reggae interplay.
This box isn't long enough to list all the things I love about the song.
Please do post lyrics, so I can read along with your terrific vocals.
P.S. Were you the one that posted a thread a few months back
wondering if he should give a music career a shot? If so, I have to say
that I think you're nuts if you don't. This is terrific writing, singing and
musicianship. I'd buy your album. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for the post Lisa (your true identity was exposed on the 'Bad Day'
thread). I'm glad you liked the tune. I really only came together once Brian did
the drums and it fell nicely together. I found that mixing is soooo important
though its not my forté.
Yes it was me that did that post about taking it up career-wise. Still battling with
that one - thanks for remembering! [ Reply to This ]

glad Bryan posted this in the forums. Fantastic all around -- Professional
with a capital P. My favorite parts: the drum rim shot & the utter passion
in your vocals. Bravo. [ Reply to This ]

Not too shabby! I like that Lisa! &mdash 09/13/06 - 04:57:52 AM
Bryan has some great ideas in the production department and can put
down a great rhythm - the drums on this are really excellent. Then
again, the song itself is also really cool. I love the variety you get in
this Gav - great dynamics and very good playing and singing. All in all
an extremely professional effort - better than most of what I hear on
radio these day!!!

Bryan surely has some good ideas that really elevated this mix from a flat song
to a dynamic song. Learned good stuff. Thats the second reference to
professional I have gotten - it is a nice sounding word - thanks! [ Reply to This ]

Still love this song. &mdash 09/13/06 - 08:32:33 AM
This was a great lot of fun being involved in this song. Loved the lyrics,
melodys and overal structure from this piece to being with... so the ideas
with the drumming flowed freely and got me grooving easily. I'm really
stoked about how this songs come out... and although I did have a hand
in with the drumming and post-production... it all still relied on having
fantastic material to work with which is what Gav's produced... so all
credit still goes to him for this! [ Reply to This ]

A bit Reggae alright &mdash 09/13/06 - 04:36:23 PM
It does have a bit of reggae in the verse for sure - It was a feel I was looking for
and Bryan nailed it on the head with the drumming. Thanks for listening and

Thanks for the comment. It does rock and I likes though its been a while since I
have been into something a bit rocking. Acoustic guitars will do that to you. Oh

That was good - I can't believe I hadn't had you fav'd -this IS good stuff and it couldn't have been the first time that you pulled it off so well - Nice indie feel to this - I (of course) especially liked the drums on this - A good driving natural feel and with an idividualistic style to them - I know, I know.... I was supposed to mention how perfect your vocals were at delivering some pretty crafty writing - And I was supposed to talk about how the gtar work in this is just kickn' - But I didn't just because... well... you know why... - A very nice arrangement, I must say - AND - Thanks! - Dion [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Dion &mdash 09/13/06 - 04:42:47 PM
How dare you mention Bryan before me! Even though the drumming pretty much
pulled the whole thing together. Kidding - thanks for the post Dion!! [ Reply to This ]
Sorry bout that &mdash 09/13/06 - 05:49:51 PM
My bad - I didn't read the song discription - Had I known that someone else played the drums I might have pretended that I was comfortable w/ a different type of comment and I would have mentioned your part first - Nahhhh - I wouldn't have... Hee hee - And now I'm being a butthead.
It's a great tune no matter who did what and when... But you knew that, huh...

Very slick .. &mdash 09/13/06 - 01:45:44 PM
liked alot .. interesting song! Vocals and lyrics are fantastic.
The overall production is extrememly good to my ears .. very smooth ..
well you can say this is final version ..
to me I hear trace elements of The Police (drums, plucky guitar), Red
Hot Chili Peppers (in vocals a bit) and a hint of Pearl Jam too ..
The main guitar sound reminds me of something I can't place . . but
it's all inconsequential .. it's that it comes together and it's new and
well blended.
PS. My nieghbours tend to call the police if I flash at them - how do
you get away with it??? ;o)
Keep it up you guys .. brilliant job/collab.

Thanks for the comment. I happen to be a fan of all the bands mentioned so I
suppose it came out a bit in this song.
Oh - the flashing! I did that in Austria on a remote country hill where there were
no cops. Plus I was on a plane out of there the next day! Flash abroad!

Real Deal &mdash 09/13/06 - 02:44:59 PM
Great tune here. Beautiful melodies, first rate performance and
production. Very catchy lyrics too, with the music delivering their
message. [ Reply to This ]

Superb &mdash 09/13/06 - 03:57:22 PM
Great production. Really striking rhythms established between the
guitars and percussion. Excellent guitar work and vocal performance.
Intriguing lyrics with a meaningful delivery and catchy melody.
In all a very skillfully constructed song, both creatively and technically.
Shades of Radiohead and Pearl Jam in there, but also an original sound
with a great deal of integrity.
The drums sound beautiful. My one critique is that the kick is a little
too punchy (hard) at times, at least in contrast to the very melodic feel
of the song. A change to the compression settings might round it out a
bit. [ Reply to This ]
Cheers &mdash 09/14/06 - 03:16:01 AM
Thankk you. I am a Radiohead fan and a Pearl Jam fan too. I used to emulate
Eddie Vedders voice a bit when I was a teenager cause I liked his style so much. I
sing whats natural now but grains of influence still remain - vocally and
musically I suppose.
I may look into the kick drum thing another time but I do like how punchy it is.
For now it can just stew in my head. Thanks! [ Reply to This ]

You guys must be on cloud nine. This is exceptional. Gav your vocals
and guitars really shine on this. Bryan gets all A's for a stellar track.
Drive, energy and commercial appeal to spare. Sounds like the mix was
a labor of love. Time well spent. A fav collab. [ Reply to This ]

Outstanding effort &mdash 09/14/06 - 09:35:48 AM
Now that I've listened and downloaded, I'm ready to give some comments. The very first impression I got of the song is "professional". This really sounds like something that you'd find on a commercial major label release, in terms of both production and performance.
You've come up with a very nice tight arrangement, the song flows well, and I also like the early changes where the drums cut back to the rim hits.
There are a few critiques that I would mention though - first off I think that some of the lead guitar sounds are a bit on the harsh side, particularly the higher pitched chords after the first change. I think some careful EQing could make those a little more user friendly. Secondly, there are some parts where the acoustic guitar underneath is a bit brittle sounding and doesn't quite mix well... but this is a minor criticism.
Overall I really like, have downloaded and faved, and listened several times already. Great effort and I can see that you have the talent to make some noise... Oh, and a great contribution by The Composer as well.

Thanks very much mason for you detailed attention. I am aware of the issues
you have brought up and its something that did occur to me so I may tidy those
up at some stage. As far as mixing goes I am a novice as you may hear in my
other tracks, and most of the good mixing came from The Composer.
Glad you liked it and you are not the first 'commercial' word. Might just tidy up
those loose ends and send to a Radio station for the crack! Cheers Mason

bit ...(a tiny bit) on the dark side - but good stuff indeed! [ Reply to This ]

Cracking track &mdash 04/09/07 - 06:50:45 AM
Just going through some of your previous postings ... this is a great track. Your voice sounds fantastic on this Gav, really emotional. The guitar playing is really powerful, and the song structure just great - loads of really well thought out twists and turns. The mix sounds bloddy great, even on the crappy speakers I'm playing this through.
In short - everything in its right place - a really cracking track.
