Keywords:
britain (3)stevel (38)rebsie (46)skinnysheilalardarse (1)caroline (57)scones (2)jacksie (1)
Description:
after the success of the bawdies first appearance on macjams waaaay back in november 2005 - we are proud to present another song by this enthusiastic british band. comprising of stevel - who also wrote the song, rebsie, slimmie and caroline on vocals, the bawdies are delighted to be associated with scones, cream and macjams!

Lyrics:
here you go!! thank you rebsie - big hug!!

I've toiled on me land and I've sown me seeds
To keep me crops a-swaying and me pigs in feed
But even with me subsidies I've gone against the wall
So when I see a poacher I give 'em me all

Chorus:
Get off my land, peasant
Keep your bloody hands off me pheasant
If I catch you scrumping you dirty bumpkin
You'll feel both me barrels up yer jacksie

I don't like them ramblers so I hedge in my farm
If I see 'em trying to cross it I inflict bodily harm
I hate the other farmers, they stay off my grass
They say you go organic ... organic my arse

My wife's gone and left me, my son's done the same
She's married an accountant, he's gone on the game
I don't let it bother me or get me grumpy
Still got me sheep and I've still got me scrumpy

Glossary of quaint English expressions:

scrumping = stealing fruit or vegetables
bumpkin = country person, usually of low intelligence
jacksie = arsehole
ramblers = people going for walks in the countryside
on the game = prostitution
scrumpy = very strong home-made cider

Fun :) &mdash 09/15/06 - 10:46:43 AM
I must admit - couldn't understand everything (whether it's the vocabulary
or the british accent, I don't know), but what I understood was pretty
clever :)
Very nice guitarplaying, too!
Sounds like you had fun with this - which is the most important thing :)

Haha...oh dear! &mdash 09/15/06 - 11:57:28 AM
This has finally seen the light of day! I can send you the lyrics..but I am
not sure they should really be printed... for the sake of public decency
and decorum.
Nice one Caroline...looking forward to the next Bawdie/Cheltenham
convention already. Get that scones order in now!

funny juxtaposition... &mdash 09/15/06 - 01:39:20 PM
...of mellow voices talking about "getting off my land!" and jacksies and god knows what else!

Good recording quality, balance and performance by all. I especially enjoyed the way the guitar wove in and out of the vocal textures. Very pleasant listen!

YOU Go Girl! These yankee/good old boys need a lesson in traditional
English folk!! BRIEF TRANSLATIONS: Jacksy=Tush, Scrumpy=Cider,
Bawdy=Animal house style behavior, Bumpkin=George Bush, On the
game=Politicians.

You lot... &mdash 09/16/06 - 09:35:12 AM
...are having way too much fun. I wanna go to the next one! Make me
wealthy, please, so that I can sing things I can't translate and sound
organic and pleasant, with or without a pheasant. This was great!

ah .. the revolting peasants ;o) &mdash 09/16/06 - 11:51:21 AM

.. very pheasant throughout ..

Stevel: the verse vocal, if a bit quicker would sound to me a bit like
Squeeze's "Up the Jacksie" .. er, I mean "Junction" - than an
"oo ar" farmer - but tickled me anyway .. any other accent I try turns
out Pakistani ..(?) by some quirk of nature ..

Pheasant harmonies Rebsie - was that Slimmie in the distance towards
the end?? .. Caroline must have been busy loading the shot-gun ...

If you need an extra member .. (oo er, oo ar) .. you had me at scones &
cream ..;o)

Long overdue follow-up &mdash 09/18/06 - 06:12:45 AM
A curious confection indeed (Durutti Column meets the Wurzels!!!) I don't
think I've heard the word 'Jacksie' (correct spelling?) sung or said in such a
mellow (and seemingly inoffensive) way! Of course you could have said
'Gary' which would really have confused a lot of people on this site (ha
ha!) Great writing from Mr L - with another typically catchy chorus and
lovely guitar work too. Very funny but with subtlety, vulgarity with
charm...

Fairport's "9" album - I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!
Beautiful playing and singing one and all - boy I hope I get there for
the 2007 convention!
Thanks SO much for this - a definite keeper!

what a wonderful piece. Steve has a kickin voice, and the back ups
were spot on. I too couldn't understand much :-), but I sang the chorus
anyway, cuz it seemed like the thing to do. nice mix/recording. very
clean.

Well I'll be jiggered &mdash 10/05/06 - 04:57:59 AM
Oh my goodness! I had NO IDEA this had been released! I was beginning to wonder what had happened to it.

Glad it's going down well even if the slang is somewhat baffling for non-Brits! It was a helluva lot of fun to do.

Thanx for sharing this one Caroline. As an ex poacher I have had the chorus sang, or was it shouted, to me many a misty morn. Cheery

Good song and great harmony. I liked the way it was produced. Nice
