Description

I was chatting with MJer Feter, when I told him about my new guitar - a bergundy Telecaster. He asked "what's your first song with the Tele going to be?". This is it - something of a departure for me, but such a lot of fun to do. The Tele's a dream!!
Lyrics are based a little on Feter's story - check out his bio page and his home page ( http://mysite.verizon.net/res8ydyw/theraintroubadoures/index.html ) for more.
I've wanted a Tele for so long now - read somewhere that Keef plays his chunky rhythms on the neck pickup, so that's what I tried. Apologies if it sounds like any song in particular.
I tried to make this sound as much like a live gig as I could. Play it LOUD!

Cheers Steve - I really hadn't realised how much freer an electric makes your
playing until now - a real revelation for me. Thanks for the hints on Logic
sounds for the Tele - very useful piece of info for sure - got me thinking.
Johnny Katchoolik once suggested I try doing something out of my comfort
zone - I hope he has a listen to this one : ) Now where do I sign up for the
Tele Club?

Wow, this was some pure rock'n roll groove Neil. Such a great live feeling. I know how inspirational it is to have a new guitar, and I bet it was great fun making this song.
You have got really good at producing your music. Very good balance between the things going on here and there is a great sound to it.
Cool song, very well performed.

Thanks Thor for your comment. This is my first electric guitar since I was in
my teens, and I just love the freedom of it. You can expect a few more of
these in the future I suspect : ) I have a few new tricks in the production
department which make the final sound more interesting - I've been thinking
for a while now that my final mixes were a bit flat, and the new tricks have
helped a bit I think.

Cheers Harold - glad you liked it. My left ear is playing up a bit, so maybe I
have mixed it a little off centre. There are 2 leads and a rhythm track -
rhythm centre, main lead in the left side and the other at the same level in the
right. Drums and bass and vox are all theoretically centred too. Thanks for
the mention though - I'll look into it.

David - I was so wound up doing this that I was actually up and dancing
around in my little studio while I was playing the RH lead part. Made me

This is truly rockn' and rolln', sir - Should have known ya had it in you
- But this sounds like a whole nother deal - Well..., it is, but what I'm
sayn' is that I hear Jiguma, but that's only because I am practiced at
hearing you - You just did what I've been wanting to do... - Sometimes
I just wanna do a tune where nobody knows that it's Cydniko - I may
just come in undercover one day just to see if I can pull it off -

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing this side of you, Neil - 'Ballsy blues', is
what I call it - That would be blues w/ huge bare accessories dangling
from an aural unit - And you're playn' the @##$#% outta that tele, my
friend - It sounds like it otta - Nice drive - The drums are 'right on'
And you've wrapped it tight w/ a nice rolln' bass - Ha hah... More than

Dion, thanks for coping with my "wild side". This is, in some ways, where I
want at least a part of my music to go, but have never had the means to do it
before. The new guitar should open things up considerably, and I'm looking
forward to that - must remember to break the acoustic out every now and
then though. Then there's the potential of mixing up the acoustic and
electric stuff - heaps of options (when will I sleep?)

Silly good!
This is just ridiculously good! Soundwise there's as much in common with
Dire Straits as The Rolling Stones. Keef does usually use a Custom Tele
that has a humbucker in the neck pickup, so the sound has a bit more bit
bite than Keef, but the feel is all there, and I'm impressed how at home
you feel on the new guitar... really impressed!

Thanks for the very kind comment Jim - I'm a big fan of your playing, so it
means a lot that you liked this. I really have no idea of anything much at all
when it comes to electric guitars, but am hoping I'll learn a bit over the next

This just slides along, kicking and screaming... great great rock and roll!
Your singing is slightly off here and there and could use a little more
"growl" for this song, but this holds together nicely... and you play really
easily and smoothly. Hmm... that last note, you have two guitar notes
held... it felt like one of them should bend up a whole note at the end to
finish it. Love the little cackle at the end. Nice song!

Thanks for the note Eduard - the two lead tracks are first takes, the RHS
recorded last while I was bopping around my studio - it was meant to be
rough : )
I would never have dreamt of doing a vocal like this even a few months ago -
roughness doesn't come easy you know. I guess a person's just got to push
things a bit.

Holy Smokes!
This is rippin', Neil. The production is stunning, the arrangement is rockin' and that guitar is real sweet and tasty, what bite it has! I kept expecting you to cut loose and let go with some screams and shouts; perhaps that's the only thing that's missing in my head because this track is simply fab. Sounds like you had a great time recording it! (Man, I really need to get a pre-amp...) Was that a laugh at the very end? Nice!

...you asked for the latest party...

Yeah, there's some Keefitude in this, and some Dire Straits, and, maybe
coming on the heels of the Sil-VER collab, I hear that Bowie/Mick
Ronson taking-Stones-into-the-next-generation sound... Particularly
some 'Diamond Dogs', with half a distant echo of 'Jean Genie'...

Mostly, it sounds like fun. Fun is good. I want a Telecaster.

My prediction for the coming year is that the "jiguma sound", once
known for a certain blend of chiming acoustics with a thribbety-
throbbety bass line and quintupled vocals, will encompass a rockin'-er
rhythm guitar riffiness and startlingly more stretch and attitude in the
lead vocals...

And...and...and Apple will come out with a really cool new product.
Yeah. Those are my predictions.

There's a learning curve when taking on any new instrument, and certainly the leap from acoustic to electric will take some time and effort to get a personal feel for making distinct statements.

Obviously, you are off to a rollickin' great start - this piece exudes energy and excitement!

These kind of leaps - like buying a new guitar or recording in GarageBand - energize creativity, as we respond to a new medium.

It will be interesting to see how the Telecaster effects the idiom we have come to think of as the "Jiguma sound."

	Rock on roots.... It all comes back to that old rock and roll. This is a great ride back in the Way-Back Machine to that previous time. The music is reminiscent of Bob Seeger and his Silver Bullet Band, who is a favorite rocker of mine. Great chord changes throughout and I am loving that tight lede guitar riffing...
