Description:
Quantum particles exist in a state that displays at once a horrifying chaos and a symmetry that is painfully beautiful. Suspended between matter and energy the reality of the quantum particle spreads across all space simultaneously. This is known as the wave function, a state of pure probability in which the particle interacts with reality in perfect harmony. As the entropy surrounding the particle increases the wave function becomes increasingly unstable until, at last, the probability field collapses and the particle becomes matter, trapped in a violent instant of realization. The moment that the wave function collapses is referred to as decoherence.

I've been working at this for a while, pushing Logic Express to see what I can make it do. This version only includes about two-thirds of what I had planned, but my iMac is choking. Its becoming increasingly difficult to work on the file and I'd like to get some feedback at this point to determine if I should develop it further or move on.

I'm working to really optimize the mix, but am running into limitations. The spectral analyzer I'm using tells me the mix is balanced, but this version sounds a little harsh in my speakers. Please let me know how it sounds on your system. It should be sharp, but not piercing. The bass should cut through the mix.

needs a light show &mdash 09/25/06 - 03:32:27 PM
I listened through headphones, and the bass does in fact cut through the
mix. I'll try to listen through my monitors later on when the kid isn't
taking a nap. I liked it quite a bit. Makes me want to watch The Wall
again.

Reality Wave &mdash 09/25/06 - 08:48:10 PM
I'd say you're giving LE a real good exercise. The intro is great, capturing
the spectrum of possibilities, then collapsing into the more restrained
heavy metal beat half way through. This sounds good in my head
phones, I don't hear any distortion. Personally, I'd like to see you build on
this, perhaps extending/expanding the closing melody and then getting
back to the heavy metal beat and then expanding that melodically. In
other words, grind out that reality a bit more. Quite intense, I like it.

No excess distortion &mdash 09/26/06 - 06:00:24 PM
with my EQ flat - that's a good sign! I also want more of the heavy-metal thrash, but that's my preference. Accompanied by deep toms, hard snare and Kick.... right now the drums are low in the back

Intro is cool, an ominous feeling

overall a super cool sound goin'

stunning love it &mdash 09/26/06 - 11:28:14 PM
push it, this is what music should strive to become

As a professional voice-over actress... &mdash 09/28/06 - 01:44:00 AM
...okay, I have no qualifications on which to base my judgement of this,
except that I know when something sounds really COOL and this is it!

most excellent &mdash 10/03/06 - 06:20:10 PM
i like the ideas behind it as well as the sounds themselves. you have really
captured that fractal edge between order and chaos. very very cool. please
do try to finish this composition, even if you must split it into parts and
mix them later to form the final work...

Groovy particles ! &mdash 10/07/06 - 04:33:12 AM
I like the way the sound are rising and falling !
Very good work you did - well structured and distorted at the same time !

If you tell me.... &mdash 10/14/06 - 06:07:50 PM
....this was all made with loops I will proceed to eat all my words in the
loops thread. But no chance of that, eh? I like this piece. It's getting close
to pure sound, developing only in the overall architecture, but not bound
by pitches or ryhtm. Good job. -- Victor.

So that's what it sounds like &mdash 10/17/06 - 04:05:57 PM
when the wave function collapses... I especially liked the way you
incorporated the Schrdinger equation ;-) No seriously, I thought the
intro was a magnificent soundscape. The rhythm part was a little out of
time, to my ears the guitar wasn't timed properly. Of course, there's
always a quamtum probability that this is exactly the desired
decoherence effect, but I'm guessing there's at least one world in which
my comment makes the song better - hope it's this one. Thanks for
this.

Down to the nanometers &mdash 10/20/06 - 11:49:49 AM
Sheze man, this is awesomely creative and cool sounding. A lot of very rich sound! And setting it with the art and the wave function makes for a scientific-style, zooming down to the quantum-scale wonders of new physics kind of feel, which I loved. This doesn't sound at all harsh to me, just beauty-of-nature cool.

love the experimentalism... Continuing doing things like that... Dig it

Effect deaf.... &mdash 12/11/06 - 10:53:05 AM
This sounds great, and you should definitely push it as far as you can/ want to. When my plugin automation overwhelms my RAM, I usually ignore the freeze function, and just mute tracks I'm not actively working on. If that still fails to accomodate my limited means, I will draw the automation that looks most intriguing (!), and bounce it all down to see what comes of it. Slow, yes. Inefficient, yes. But there is a weird kind of gamesmanship in it!
