Description:
This is, hopefully, just take one...
When I sat down to work on a collaboration with Amagi... well it just wasn't happening. Then this song happened. Written and recorded on Monday, the 25th. Inspired by Ejh and his recent song, "Please Don't Call."
A little ditty, just for fun...
Lyrics:
But I Will
1.
Woke up this morning, you were on my mind.
Whenever I'm alone this happens all the time.
Drank my coffee, then drank some wine.
It was too late for things I still hoped to find.
Refrain:
Don't know why I'm feeling so blue.
I can't seem to get over you
Cant' go on
Can't go on
But I will.
2.
Another time, another place
Seems like I always see your pretty face.
Wondering why this is the case
As in my memory thoughts of you I trace.
Refrain
Instrumental
3.
Funny thing about this life
Just when things are working, along comes some strife.
Without a warning it cuts you like a knife
Then the next day everything is all right.
Refrain
4.
Back at home as I fix my evening meal
I'm still wondering what broke the deal.
You probably think I was such a heel.
But you know you're not the only one who can feel.
Refrain

Not fair &mdash 09/27/06 - 04:17:44 PM
You are such a good songwriter. I am jealous. You write powerfully
simple lyrics and accessible chords and rhythms. Your songs sound
quite cheerful (unless they are purposely sad). A quality ditty. A
whimsical Autumnal outing. Thanks for sharing. [ Reply to This ]

I am just amateur hack having some fun. But I am glad for the compliment.
Thanks for giving me some good vibes on this song...

Been there, done that, all too often &mdash 09/27/06 - 04:53:52 PM
Exactly. Some days everything seems so good, then BLAM, along comes
strife, hardship, da blues. This song expresses perfectly that
"tomorrow is another day" and we will make it through, no matter what
we may be going through today. Very nice guitar and vocals, Jack. :-) [ Reply to This ]
Roxy, you always seem... &mdash 09/27/06 - 05:08:32 PM
to get something of my mood and feeling in a song. You did here with your
comments. Thanks.

You've got echoes of both Dylan and Prine... &mdash 09/27/06 - 04:57:28 PM
...in this one...
It's a great song... I love the lyrics and the melody... (Very clever
lyric)...Really good vocal that suits the song...And you always get extra
points for harmonica...That's just the rules...
This has got a great rough charm, but I'm also going to step out and
say that this is one where I'd love to hear a second iteration, and that's
just because I am sitting here really liking the song...
I think what I would love to hear would be a little more regularity in the
rhythm guitar, and I would love to hear a little more attention paid to
the recorded sound of the acoustic. Fresh strings, mess around finding
the sweet spot where there's a nice balance between warmth and
brightness, and double-track it left and right. Maybe play along really
strictly to a drum track and then wipe the drum track.
I could also really hear a bass on this...
Mind you, it's downloaded as is, and gratefully, but I'd come back for a
second version...

Hey... &mdash 09/27/06 - 05:03:20 PM
I didn't see my name mentioned until the page reloaded... That's pretty darned
flattering, Jack...
You know, I'm busting these comments up into paragraphs, but they don't seem
to be 'paragraphing'... first it was spontaneous line breaks, and now it's all
scrunched together...

You read my mind... &mdash 09/27/06 - 05:05:59 PM
I was already thinking of this as a demo beofe I uploaded it. I hear the same
things as well as some possible backup vocals on the refrain. The guitar
track on this is merely passable... are you free?
Thanks for your inspiriation.

Such a good songwriter &mdash 09/28/06 - 07:56:31 AM
When a new song from Dadai is out I have my finger ready to trig the fav
button ... but I am stubborn and waits till I've listened ... maybe this
time .. but no, of course, as usual, it is a fav again.
This is a musically delicious thing on bluesy lyrics. You are such a good
songwriter, as Richard rightly put it. Thank you for another favorurite to
my collection! [ Reply to This ]

Ops, just noted that that last comment was my comment no 1000 ... a worthy
song to host a jubilee-comment.

No sour grapes here bro! &mdash 09/30/06 - 03:13:57 PM
We'll do our collab yet. In the meantime there's this nice addition to the
Dadai repitoire! Very user-friendly. Guitar nicely recorded. But the real
treat is in the way you did the vox harmonies (something I actually haven't
had the courage to attempt yet). Love it.
Be well! [ Reply to This ]
Vox harmonies... &mdash 10/03/06 - 12:23:36 AM
Thanks Mike. Yeah the vocals with the harmonies were the most fun thing
about this song. When I did the harmonies I knew I had a song. Glad you
liked them.
cheers...

Refreshing ... as usual. You are always at your best when you catch a breeze and let it sweep you off somewhere. [ Reply to This ]
You are probably right.... &mdash 10/09/06 - 05:02:19 PM
A breeze definitely blew in on this song. It was a pretty spontaneous thing. I think it warrants another take. Guitar and vocal can be better... but so often the original take has a little something that is hard to capture again. But look to see this sometime in the next version. Thanks Warren.
