Description:
This tune was a challenge brought on by my ol' writing partner, Kevin. I used to have a dry-erase board by my gear that had on it a list of song titles I was currently working on. One day after a writing session with Kevin, I noticed a new title on the list - "Master Woo's Plastic Extravaganza". This title was in reference to something that happened that day. (Maybe you can figure out what it was!) The title seemed rather crazy and it wasn't until one day when I unconsciously sang it, that I was able to write this tune. Here it is in brand new clothes provided by GarageBand. Master Woo could not be reached for comment.

Lyrics:
My brainwave party has come to an end
I have no skills left; I've none to spend

A little voice tells me, "Get a clue!"
But I know that I can't because of Master Woo

Master Woo's plastic extravaganza

I can't think straight, I have polymer on the brain
Every volume I touch is covered in cellophane

There's no cure for my shrink-wrap frustration
I suppose I could go and buy the book but that would lead to my total humiliation.

Extravaganza Yes! &mdash 07/19/04 - 01:34:33 PM
I loved this. Totally interesting, fun, lively, with great performances. The mix of intrumentents, varied tracks reminds me somewhat of Steely Dan (maybe the Woo reference), less laid back though. No clue to your riddle.
You are really a very good musician and singer/song-writer. I will be listening to this more than once.

I heard this tune way back when on iCompositions, and I
thought it was great. It's one of the best things I've heard!
I didn't realize you are giovanni - thank you for all your
comments on my posts. Keep more of those coming!

zippy and colorful and busily imaginative! &mdash 07/19/04 - 06:48:36 PM
You've got a lot of great things going on in this song, it's
sort of symphonic with all the layers busily unwinding
their musical phrases in that FUN-kee way!

This tune really kept my energy level crackling!

In my earphones, the extreme highs and lows came
through very clearly...didn't hear as much "middle"
though.

VERY imaginative composing and excellent performance!

I can't wait for the "Master Woo's Plastic
Extravaganza Show"

I love the treatment of the vocals on the chorus...
downloaded and enjoyed immensely!

Woo that bass! &mdash 07/20/04 - 07:56:39 AM
The bass steals the show in this number. And the very
cool harmonies and vocal layering. Kind of R&B
horn section, great fun. The sound (in the horn section
and occasional snare hits) is slightly harsh, like an old
mono LP recording. I really dig the drumming. I couldn't
help but imagine 2 dozen Giovannis playing everything as
they danced thru a plastics factory as he wraps beautiful
Asian co-workers in shrinkwrap... and then Master Woo
comes out to a Moog solo!

Gumby on my mind &mdash 08/02/04 - 09:13:31 AM
Guess I'll be thinking about my old Gumby plastic
figurines all day. Thanks for bringing new life to my old
toys.

Ah Giovanni, you're definitely one of favourites to listen
to. I love your arrangements. Sounds like you really
enjoyed doing this and that's contagious. So funky. I love
it.

Special ed &mdash 02/11/05 - 07:05:41 AM
Man, so THAT is what has taken over the globe! Woo's
Plastic Extravaganza! And we're all apprentices. Get smart
enough to make somebody else money with enough left
over to pay taxes and line more pockets, but never learn
the fine print. There's this great old Ray Bradbury short
story about a kid who's brain couldn't get programmed to
read (in the future, all knowledge is downloaded directly
into the brain) and he was sent to a special planet where
kids had to learn to read the old fashioned way.... and all
these "special ed" kids turned into the future
programmers...!
