Description
Piano Rhythm, with a Synth solo. I'm working on a more complex chord sequence for the next version, with maybe no high piano.

No GB loops, all my midi playing. I even play midi drums here, but I would love to have real drums.

A little lost on the genre, I think it is a Rock instrumental a la ELP, but I'll let you chime in on that.

Open to suggestions on all aspects (especially the ending!)

Re: Nice Combinations
Thanks for listening.
Here is a web address to the Crystal Synth:

Crystal is a really flexible instrument and plays through GarageBand, lots of
sounds and voices :) You can control the sound with the knobs and sliders on a
midi controller or with your computer. It also has optional polyphony and touch
sensitivity.

2 on 3!
i like your use of the 2 against 3 rhythm. the synth works very nicely with
that back up. and build up works well. only one negative from me: the
parallel fourths on the synth sound cool, but they cause certain notes
(especially the held-out ones) to really fight the back up chords. i wish i
knew a solution to that problem - i've battled it myself and never found a
pleasing answer. if it were possible to retune the fourths note by
note? ........ but overall, i like this song. thanks

Interesting point
As usual you bring up an interesting issue. I'm working on a version that uses a
different chord sequence, and I will try to work out what the best notes are for
the holds. When holding a single note there are a lot more choices that work
with the chord, than when holding a fourth.

Thanks for listening.

This was pretty cool
Nice build up that somehow made me think of Bolero :-? Can't think of why... When it started to get a bit "long" you made the lead synth go staccato which sort of waked me up (it's 11.30 p.m. here remember..) in a good way. So thanks for sharing!

Bolero???
Thanks a lot for the great comment. The drum part is inspired by ELP's "Abandon's Bolero" [sp?] which I haven't heard in years.

Sorry
That's Bolero by Ravel, you can get some half-minutes of it at iTunes Store. (I searched for Bolero Ravel and got 150 hits!) After a new listen I still think the inspiration is there. The slow buildup and something in the rythm maybe. Good job anyway!

Re Bolero
Thanks. I am familiar with Ravel's Bolero, amazing piece, but I would never pretend to imitate it :) Ravel is way out of my league.

Inventive
I'm a huge fan of portamento - takes me back to the days of rick wakeman.Again I like the chord progression - very slightly zapper-ish of whom I am an admirer

Re: Inventive
Thanks for listening and commenting. I am trying to get more expressiveness out of my keyboard, the portamento seems good for that. Besides I still listen to Rick Wakeman, so it doesn't sound "old" to me ;)

Great theme
I really like this theme. It's a builder! I love the unconventional approach (although I'd rather hear a guitarsolo to go along). It's an inspiring song!

Great
Glad you like it. I like to use the basic piano idea in a lot of my practice/improvising. Thanks for listening and commenting!
