Description
If you don't like blues guitar...just pass this by!

I record blues beds so that i have music to practice too. Occasionally, I hit the record button, to see how I sound. I hardly ever save what I record. because usually after 2 minutes or so, I am just messing around...running scales...This time, on this day, I had had a great , funny chat with my pal patrick, and started to play with an inspiration. When I played it back, I realized that I had played some nice blues, I heard it like it wasnt me...i heard it like i was listening thru patrick's ears. And i decided to keep it. The very first track I ever submitted on MJ was a simple blues tune...as is this...but if we listen back, you can hear some progress. This is because I had patrick, as well as some other folks here at MJ, challenged me to keep me trying to get better.

You all know Patrick an I hope you have marveled at his tremendous music. He is like his music...steady, changing, deeep, and sly. He also is an angel sent from God to look out me...keep me positive, keep me searching.

So here's to you buddy...enjoy. When you have time you can add some keys...or a cool midi horn section. You really helped me thru my recuperation, and I owe ya! Come to my house and I'll make some omlettes outta that mushroom...(yes it's a real mushroom, forund it out back in the forest...)

thanks for everything!

The master blues man does it again...
Well, this is a huge honor, and one of which I'm not sure I'm worthy.
It's not exactly like being a friend to Fran is a challenge - he's a great
guy with a wicked sense of humor. We have a lot in common - we
share a love of music, a love of our kids, both of us have been married
for twenty-three years, we've both been freelancers our whole careers
- I could go on and on...

In any case, thanks, Brother Fran, for the dedication of the song, for
the nice words, and for being my friend as well. I will be adding to this
track (not that it needs anything, as it stands fine on its own) and
submitting it again. I was playing behind it today before I knew you
had posted it, just for the enjoyment of it.

And you owe me nothing, but I'd love to come to Massachusetts and
have some of that fine Italian cooking. The shroom scares me a bit, so
let's go with your famous chicken parm.

Thanks, Zeets.

not exactly
I have not been a freelancer my whole life. I was in the trade-show trenches
creating big tradeshow booths for about 18 years. I had my music stuff
going at the same time. I have been a freelance designer and guitar player
for 7 years now.

that's it. return to what you were doing.

cool blues
Nice tribute, you got this tune Z down PAT !!! :)

I keep waiting for BB to step in to sing with ya!

Lots of fun, Z tells his blues stories like it is and sapphire's in all her
glory, high steppin into all the blues enthusiast ears with out a
moments notice.

This is one of the best meat and potatoes blues pieces I've heard you
play! Cool going!

Saved
So glad you hit the record button on this day. So many great passages,
great riffs, sometimes whole great tunes slip thru the time continuum,
heard only by the artist as lets fly. Masterful and oh so pleasing. Maybe
we should start exchanging recipes too (if I'd just started writing them
down!) I love to cook; but, like improvisation, it never turns out the same
way twice.

Attaboy Puffball :)
I guess you have a legitimate reason to play the blues now that the
Bosox finished third to the Jays :)

And, actually, this does sound a tad different from a lot of your stuff. If
you take out a couple of phrases, it could easily be BB playing. Nice
melodic approach here.

Post this stuff anytime dude :)

channeling perhaps?
Another excellent blues Fran - can't wait to hear what Patrick does to
it. I can definitely hear BB in there too - some sort of channeling going
on perhaps?! One of the things I've learnt after our few songs together
is to listen to what's happening apart from the main track - I really
enjoy your feel with the supporting chords (as well as the lead of
course).
Thanks,
Neil

thank you
the hardest part for me, is getting the first ryhthm guitar part right, and with
some energy...then the subsequent tracks are much easier.

I love multi-layered guitar parts. plus i need to hide the fact that there aren't
any keys...

thanks neil...I'm ready anytime you get the whim...course, now you have your
own RUBY to sing in your songs!

peace, brother

This is your brain...
...and this is your brain on drugs...and this is your brain on drugs with
the blues in Fran's backyard near a black light...

You know, before I read the blurb, I was sitting here going, "Dag! Is
that Fran's BRAIN? If not...WHO'S BRAIN IS IT?..."

I like that this is uncluttered, and it sounds just a wee bit, a tiny bit,
more traditional, without sounding the least bit stilted, to my ears...
Actually reminds me of some of what I liked in Duane Allman as an
arranger/adapter... It is that rarest of beasts for me, a traditional swing
at the blues that I can actually sit and listen to... Sounds like when you
pressed record, and for as long as this lasted, you were present and
available and had something to say...

Even so, I know I'm gonna have nightmares about that mushroom. I'm
wondering if that's what happened to my cat...

Oh yeah!
Tasty blues licks abound herein Fran. Sweet sweet sounds of the night. I
gotta get outta here as soon as this one's over though....the smoke in this
place is startin' to get to me...provided, of course, that i can find the
door...

Be well!

Nice Crisp Blues
Ziti I really think you are the blues king of MacJams and no disrespect to anyone else. Your tone and phrasing are great. On this tune it's kind of hard to tell it's Ziti but you always manage to give me hints that's it you. On other tunes you give yourself away right away with your signature sound which I think is something we guitar players shoot for, your own signature sound.
