Description:
Dedicated to five little girls that will never fall in love with the boy of their dreams in this life . . . . .
This by no means is a simple update. I felt I really, really wanted to add richness to this tune. To be honest there are certain things thatI just can't get from my other tunes when i play certain classics. There are certain spots in this tune that have a celestial feeling that I can't get from folk fingerpicking. Really hope you can pick up some of those special feelings in this tune. I really love working and playing on tunes like this.
Frederic Chopin Op.9. No.1 (Variations by me)
1810-1849
I hope you like the picture I searched and searched trying to find one that fits as best I can imagine to go along with the music. I made the picture more of a setting for the word "nocturne" when upon looking in the dictionary means "night painting". I've known that for a while but I wanted to find more meanings as well, just for curiosity sake.
I tried to make the picture a little more with a painting feel by adding some texture to it. I really tried to structure in some chords with a little more of a night flair, plus a tad of reverb for that more romantic effect.
* This is an earlier version I uploaded to Macjams.com but this one has backround orchestration to it. Plus I added more reverberation and made the guitar bid more bassy for depth purposes..

your playing says it all - &mdash 10/07/06 - 02:29:40 AM
This is a beautiful tribute Bill. The strings add a further element of
pathos to an already wonderful piece - you sure are getting good at
this (the orchestral arrangements I mean). The story is one of the
saddest I've heard in a very long while. Thanks for posting this Bill -
words would be so hard to write abour such a situation, but your
playing says it all - had me in tears.

Bill, you have captured the feelings in here. It brought tears to my eyes.
The combination of the guitar and the strings adds emotional depth.
This tragedy was bad enough, but was compounded when those
nutcase women went on tv and said that the psycho killer was sent by
God. Hopefully, no one will believe that. Anyway, I digress. The music
you wrote for these little girls is beautiful. Faved & downloaded. [ Reply to This ]

Very rich sound indeed. It is very genuine and heartfelt. Touching work
with the guitar as usual. [ Reply to This ]

Nice to hear Chopin on guitar. Very delicately played, with due sensitivity
towards the original. Thank you for a great download Bill! [ Reply to This ]
Cool &mdash 10/08/06 - 09:48:40 PM
I know only a few of the nocturnes, so I don't recognize the original.
However, your guitar playing is excellent as always. I think I recognize the
places that you describe as transcending the folk picking idiom. You
definitely get a singing tone out of that guitar when you try to play simple
melodies. What really surprised me about this piece is that for an acoustic
musician you get surprisingly creative sounds out of the orchestral part.
This is definitely not some "slap some strings under it" job. Really nice. --

Thanks all you guys for the compliments &mdash 10/09/06 - 12:31:18 AM
I think as I listen more... &mdash 10/09/06 - 11:50:25 AM
...that your playing, Bill, and your devotion to your playing is just getting
deeper, more musical... You have always had technical ability, but your
devotion to playing, to each piece, to getting the best tone from the
guitar, to recording each piece, and lately, to using software strings,
seems to be deepening your connection to the music you play in a way
that transcends technical skill. One has less and less the feeling that one
is listening to the tune, and more the feeling that one is listening deeply
to Bill Furner...

Very Moving Work. &mdash 10/12/06 - 04:20:02 PM
Wonderful posting and sentiments for such unspeakable sadness. You've
done justice to the original and so much more. Your playing is masterful
and a treat to hear and the orchestral accompaniment perfect. [ Reply to This ]
