I don't have GB or any of the Jam Packs, so I have no idea what the
loops sound like. But I'm guessing..... Ok, first of all, you have a very
nice sense of architecture. This piece has an excellent intro, builds up
nicely (the percussion part after the tutti strings is just a tad too long
for me), and it has an actual end..... But now take a look at what you've
done compositionally. Percussion intro, fine. Then you get some
melodic material: a very clear clarinet theme. This gets repeated twice,
alternating with a horn theme, so clearly it's important. And indeed,
when the full strings come in they restate this theme. Now the listener
is sure: this is the theme of the piece. But then, after some tympani,
when you expect the whole orchestra to burst out in the ultimate
development of that theme at the high point of the composition, eh,
nothing really happens. You get a string riff that's clearly background.
Here's my suggestion: if that Jam Pack allows you to play your own
melodies, see if you can take the initial theme and somehow fit it over
that string riff..... For reference, take a listen to The Moldau by
Smetana. Your piece reminded me very much of that, and Smetana
develops a flute riff plus one melodic theme into, oh, 15 minutes or so
of excellent music...... But hey, you've done a pretty good job on your
first posted composition. This holds great promise for the future. --
