Description:
Another old one of mine re-vamped. Inspired by a weird foreign film I saw in my youth.
More art (lol) courtesy of my youngest daughter Rebecca (age 5).
Changes in this version (still not mastered):
- bass added
- shortened alot
- various corrections (mostly on vocals)
- vocals EQ'd to reduce some 'S'
- drums added to verses.
Originally performed by my old band "Nobody Knows" in oh .. around '93-'94. This is dedicated to them:
Lead vocals:Justine/Jerry
Keyboards & b.vox: Amanda
Drums: Mathew
Bass: James
Guitars & b.vox: APB
Lyrics:
v1
So long since the good times have come around,
If we could be happy,
So much more than I ever could ask for ..
Takin' our time,
Doin' it right,
Once in a lifetime,
I long to hear you say ..
Chorus:
"So say you don't love me ...
'Cos if you can't, you do .."
v2
So why do I find I'm on my own again?
There must be someone ..
Is that too much for anyone to ask for?
Lookin' for you,
Playin' it right,
Tied up inside,
I long to hear you say ..
woo hoo,
yeah,
woo hoo,
(instrumental break)
Yeah!
Takin' our time,
Doin' it right,
Once in a lifetime,
I long to hear you say ..
v3
So it's goodbye to the good times,
I'm on my own ..
I can't find someone ..
To hold and love and be all I ever wished for ..
Lookin' for you,
Pleasin' myself,
Not lookin' for you,
Don't need no one else

So beautiful! Such a nice composition! Such a great and professional
production, and though professional, still beautiful, (which only in rare
cases come together). One of the best posts at the site! Tenbombed. [ Reply to This ]

nice vox &mdash 10/14/06 - 06:52:10 PM
super nice song. Builds well keeps it "up". really nice vocals sets this off and apart with the harmony parts. Besides you touch the guitar in a delicate way. Nice nice song. Thanks for this! - Harold [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Harold &mdash 10/14/06 - 07:26:11 PM
vocals is not my favourite thing in the world to do .. hence mostly ever doing
b.vox in bands I played in - but for these re-vamps its up to me and I'm
trying to get better at singing, recording (correcting lol) my vocals and that
takes time, so I am very glad you liked them.
The guitar I'm much more comfortable with .. and in fact I play pretty
hard ...truth be told, but one of the qualities I liked about the Yamaha APX-8A
I use, is it's ability to sound 'light' and delicate even when you thump it a fair
bit ..it's no 'cheese-grater' guitar, so it's a dream to play and I use light picks
with it (and heavier ones for the mandolin and bass).

great voice and arrangements. Obviously you've been playing with your
software long enough to make it sound professionally done. ready for

.. been new to GB, since I got my Mac Mini, which is when I joined MJ too ..
so approx. 6 months - but I've used other sequencers a long time ago and
recorded in a couple of studios in my time (but then I wasn't the engineer).

Cheers &mdash 10/15/06 - 02:08:41 PM
.. no you mention it the harmonies do give it a bit of a "The Rembrandts"
touch to it ..not as upbeat as the Friends theme but .. I see what you mean.
Thanks for stopping in, always a pleasure.

solid.... &mdash 10/16/06 - 06:42:07 AM
and reminds me a bit of Sheryl Crow production wise...good production
and songwriting - good arrangement. Perhaps the lead is somewhat too
thick and muddy but that's just a TINY side note and could just be a
preference....Good stuff this! [ Reply to This ]
Tack så mycket .. &mdash 10/16/06 - 07:31:20 AM
Herr Karlsson och Välkommna till MacJams!
Funny you mention Sheryl Crow - at the time we played this
song, when we had a female lead singer, we did a couple
of Sheryl Crow covers - might have subliminally worn off
on my production.
Did you mean the vocal 'lead'? I guess I EQed badly when
trying to reduce the 'S' - hmm any better tips on how to
go about that? Could you check the old version and see if that is better, although too much 'hissing Sid'.

about the muddiness &mdash 10/17/06 - 05:28:30 AM
I really don't know if it's that muddy, the lead that is...but you COULD try and
"gröpa ur" a bit around 150-300 hz....men ingen big deal. Låter urbra!

very nice production .. well done ... !!! [ Reply to This ]
Nice Mesh &mdash 10/18/06 - 08:38:27 AM
of musical instruments in a pleasing melody make for an excellent mix
here. The vocals are a tad muddy to my ears (on headphones).
But overall a lovely piece of work. Now take it to the (virtual) streets, my
friend. ;)

Eek ! &mdash 10/19/06 - 03:06:38 PM
.. there's a zombie commenting on my song! ;o) lol .. ty - yup, it all got
a bit muddier when I tried to reduce some 'S' and .. well, messed it up ..lol.
It's not perfect, or mastered and I'll come back to it .. in a month or 2 and have
a fresh round of fixing and mixing - for now the (virtual) streets will have to
wait.

.. I muddle by on keys to be honest.. play a bit .. then get in correcting with the timing and pencil etc. Gets the idea across more than anything. Glad you liked it.
