Description:
Thanks again to Neil Porter for providing background vocals and lots of guidance on the final mix.

About a month ago I got the news that a cousin of mine had passed away at the age of 34 a victim of a horrible disease, addiction. After a few days of reflecting on this tragedy all I could think of is the pain that my uncle must have been going thru losing his only son. Being a father of two boys I can't fathom the pain he must have been going thru. "A FATHERS LOVE NEVER DIES".

Lyrics:
Fly Away
By Ed Moran 2006

I got the news today
I didn't want to hear.
It's been fifteen years since I saw you
Seems like yesterday.
I heard your gone, gone, gone for good
Were you lost,
Or just misunderstood.

Fly away tonight
Fly away now the pain is gone
Mother crying, sister wondering why,
A fathers love never dies.

I've travelled done that path
That path before.
Sometimes the grip on our lives is so strong
You can't let go.
Your intentions were good
But sometimes we forget.
That the bondage of self
Is hard to break.

Fly away tonight
Fly away now the pain is gone
mother's crying sister wondering why
A fathers love never dies.

addiction... &mdash 10/17/06 - 09:15:16 PM
is a disease that doesn't affect only the person using it. family and friends
suffer. i've been on the receiving end with my ex. $20,000 on credit cards
and a son who hates his mother. you did a pretty good job with the lyrics.
song and production good as well. anyway know that life is good if you
want it.

Thanks for listening and I couldn't agree more. It's a disease that does tear up
the whole family and is widely misunderstood.

Thanks

a way through &mdash 10/17/06 - 09:40:43 PM
Hey Ed, that sounds better :) I like the new little guitar bits you added
on the LH side, and the rhythm guit sounds better (although I'd like to
hear it a bit more in the mix still. As I said before, I think this is a
really good song, and this mix has certainly improved it a lot. Bass and
drums sound great! Thanks for letting me sing on it. It's a sad fact of
a lyricist's life that highly emotional events make for the best writing -
I sure hope your uncle finds some way through his grief.

Thanks John. This whole recording thing has a big learning curve and with the
help you find here at Mj it makes the process fun.

Great idea &mdash 10/18/06 - 05:59:29 PM
to recruit Neil.... Amazing to me, my wife's father passed away this year, seems like yesterday, the pain, that we went through to wait for his body to give up. His depature was a shock because albeit he was 81, he had bumped his leg on his truck and went in to the hospital in case there was a blood clot. They drained the blood and then his heart stopped on the table for too long.
At the time I had tried to write some lyrics "Wings to Fly", but I couldn't express what I wanted to say.

Sorry to go on babbling here, but I read your lyrics and the song title...

Fine song, and vocals are great too. - Harold

Sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one is never easy when they are in the prime
of their lives it's tragic. The song was written with my uncle in mind and what he
must have felt. Thanks agin.

Some of the best.... &mdash 10/18/06 - 08:02:31 PM
..."message" songs are the gentlest....

This one's very sweet, caring and gentle. No finger-pointing or blaming
or preaching. Makes its point in a way that it can be heard.

My best friend's brother died this way last year, someone I'd known
since our high school days. It was poignant to see that little white box
that held his ashes on a table in my friend's home, with his mom right
there. A very sad thing.

Seems almost crass to mention anything about the recording, but...
here we are at Macjams... There's some very nice guitar playing on
here, and, on first listen, I think there's some in there that is pretty and
I could stand to hear a little more of. I like your vocals very much, and
Neil does a nice job on the background vocals. Even the graphic is
gently perfect.

Well done.

Thanks for the kind words. After review th song after it was posted I agree with
you and Neil, the guiatrs should be more prominent in the mix. The beauty of MJ
is that this is all a work in progress.

I Can Feel the Sting &mdash 10/23/06 - 07:32:35 AM
Good job with the lyrics and vocals here. Both work seamlessly to convey
the heartbreak. Excellent mix and production, everything is clear and well
balanced. The guitar riffs are pretty and effective. Very good tune.

Forgot about the Mustang... &mdash 10/23/06 - 07:37:04 AM
Played in a band when I was a teenager, back in the day when I would stand too
close to the fire your cousin was consumed by. One of the guys in the band
used to have a Mustang. I loved that little thing. Small, sweet and fast.

Thanks for taking a listen and I agree, I have had my Fender Mustang since the
early 80's and still one of my favorite guitars.

Flying high &mdash 11/04/06 - 11:57:57 AM
hi Ed - great production on this, and a real up close feel with the vocals that's just lovely. Lovely subtle guitar lines, and the harmonica at the end works really well. A warm sweet song, sung in a realy wonderful heartfelt manner. Reminds me a little of Tom Petty at his best.

Great stuff - thanks for sharing this.

emotions &mdash 11/05/06 - 08:48:27 AM
From strong emotions there sometimes comes art like this.
The melody is suited to the words and gives a calm feel to the song. You and Neil's voices go well together. Nice to hear him sing along. Well performed in every way:)
