Description:
Hello, fellow Macjammers. I haven't posted in a while. Sorry for the absence. This is a new song I just finished and I am very proud of it. I would like to dedicate this piece to my new friends Stephanie Wood and her daughter Amber, who I've been lucky enough to get to know on Myspace.com. Stephanie has an amazing story and she is a loving mother whose adorable little girl is truly the apple of her eye. I admire her strength and courage and moreover her determination to be no one but herself. That's inspiring! I wasn't sure if this work belonged under "acoustic, new age," or "smooth jazz." So I settled with acoustic. Enjoy!

Alvarez Guitar

The guitar... &mdash 10/19/06 - 01:28:15 AM
...has a great feel to it. Very enjoyable to listen to. Nice and soft touch,
creates an intimate emotion, obviously what is wanted. Well done and
produced.

Thanks, Feter. I'm always worried that the acoustic/electric I have will not sound
anywhere near as warm as a good ol' hollowbody, which is what I would prefer
to use but don't own one. So I just have to play with the EQ and hope for the
best. Thanks again for the kind words.

Light thru the Woods &mdash 10/19/06 - 09:43:12 AM
Thank you for sharing this sort of joyfulness. It washes over me like
sunshine at the end of day, deepening the colors all around, bold yet soft
and satisfied. Wonderful.

Thank you, Tobin. You're an extreme talent and your words mean a lot to me.
It's funny, too, that one of my absolute favorite things on this often chaotic
planet is sunlight pouring down through treetops in a vast forest, especially
in late afternoon/twilight. There aren't too many more peaceful things than
that. I'm happy that you could see that in this piece, for I feel that the imagery
music conveys is often overlooked and replaced with trying to hone in on the
technique, the skill, and the craft of playing music itself, which are necessary
tools in the process of creating anyting. But in the end, what shines the most
(or should shine the most) is the individual's ability to use those tools in
order to tell his own unique story. And you're one of those people who knows
how to read those stories simply for the story's sake. Thanks for listening and
for the inspiring comments.

Soothing &mdash 10/19/06 - 03:30:46 PM
The beautiful melody reminded me of Pat Metheny's playing. The overall atmosphere you're creating is wonderfully serene and poised. And the sublety in your guitar playing is just ear candy. Glad you found time to post this, what a joy to listen this improvisation.

Thanks, Parichayaka. I mean, wow! Pat Metheny! At this point, I don't care if everyone else wants to give me 0's across the board. To be told that my style sounds even remotely close to Metheny's--that makes all the hard work worth while. Thanks for listening and for the incredible compliment. You must have read my music background :).

Such a nice moment you've given... &mdash 12/22/06 - 06:59:05 PM
With the hectic aspect of Christmas in full swing, it is very renewing to sit and listen to a beautiful song like this. It brings back the more authentic aspect - that of peace.

This is a lovely composition, well played... A great gift. Thank you for playing from your heart.

Thanks, Futzpucker, for the kind words. I agree; this time of the year is always a bit chaotic, and, like yourself, I like to find and enjoy the more peaceful things in the world. I have thoroughly enjoyed the peacefulness in your wonderful compositions, and I look forward to hearing many more great tunes from you. Thanks again and have a safe and happy holiday.

warmth &mdash 02/03/07 - 09:16:58 AM
just a sweet wonderfully warm tone you get out of both the lead and backing guitar. I think the comparisons been made but its reminiscent of metheny in tone and style, and I offer that in the highest regards. you have a unique signature to your style so i don't want to label it. very heartfelt piece. d/l'd and fav'd

Wow! &mdash 02/03/07 - 01:35:23 PM
John, thank you so much for listening to this piece and for the kind words. I am very proud of it. You're the second person here to mention the Metheny likeness. I'm truly honored by that compliment because he's my all-time hero. Trust me, I don't try to hide it. I've also been listening to your music and I'm totally blown away by your style. So a compliment like that coming from someone with your immense talent just makes my day. Thanks again!

I don't know much about Pat Methany &mdash 02/16/07 - 10:26:23 PM
but I know what I like, and this is really nice Ron. Gives me a feeling of peace, calms me right down; so I played it twice. Just curious: Same guitar for the lead and backing? Sounds quite different; both sound great.

Thanks, joe. I really appreciate your listening and commenting on this tune. This song remains my favorite of my recent work. Yes, I'm using the same guitar on both tracks (Alvarez AF60CK). I don't own any amp plug in's or anything like that right now; so it's all Garage Band II. Luckily, the Alvarez has a built-in preamp, which allows me to get the hollowbody sound with just a little tweaking of both the guitar's onboard EQ and the EQ in Garage Band. So far, so good, but I'm definately ready to get my hands on a real jazz box. Thanks again for listening and for the kind words.

i love your use of harmonics &mdash 03/05/07 - 10:02:06 PM
listening to several of your pieces... you have a real ear for when and how to use harmonics to their potential.
again, like your newer acoustic piece, this is just so intimate and soulful. i can really hear your heart in the music. it's obvious that you "feel" what you "play". it's not just about technique so much as the emotion you are conveying. beautiful!

Kindness in song &mdash 06/14/07 - 07:30:04 PM
I would imagine your friends must be very honored to have had this song dedicated to them. I do hear the strength of a devoted mother in this tune, with all the happiness and heartbreak that entails. Wonderful playing as always.
