Description:
A little dance, with Hectorious's 'Bounce'.
The original can be found here:
http://www.macjams.com/song/24611
There are also two other versions that I know of, and I believe at least one other in the works. I'd think you'd find it interesting to listen to the other versions as well. The other versions are very good, very different from this interpretation and from each other, and yet all based on the same spirited foundation.

My thanks to Hectorious for so freely sharing his impressive talents here. At the risk of sounding corny, my thanks to MacJams, and it's community, for providing an environment where it's possible to learn from, and collaborate with, musicians around the entire world. My life is certainly richer and more interesting because of it. Also, my thanks to perceptualvortex for providing his early critique and insight.

Entering Grid Stalker Territory &mdash 10/21/06 - 10:53:20 AM
That's the immediate impression from the song art. :)
I like the bass heavy mix in headphones, I haven't listened on the
speakers though - but I'd be concerned the bass might be a tad
overwhelming.
Excellent playing by all involved.

This mix is pretty bassie. I have remixed to make it sound better.
All in all Aquila did an excellent job on this tune. Its a very cool thing to hear
other peoples musical interpretation of a little idea you came up with. A lot of us
here on MacJams are Learning, Sharing, and Collaborating with each other.
Speaking for myself that why this site Kicks Ass!!!
Many thanks to Aquila for taking it on..

Re: You're Right &mdash 10/22/06 - 11:09:30 AM
Yeah, like I replied to Mungo, it's bass heavy, but that's the point :) Your bass is what's kicking butt all over this tune! Thanks for the sound bed H, it was truly an inspiration. I pulled back some of the high end, based on the original comment to 'Bounce' by Drakonis, using a shelf filter, but I didn't want to mess with the bass too much. On a stereo it sounds just about right to me but I think PVs suggestion below might have made the most sense. I could have used GB's graphic equalizer to selectively remove some of the 'boomier' frequencies without detracting from the bass's sonic power. I'm still learning at the MJ School for Production Engineers and Musicians. Thanks again for sharing your considerable talents here.

Re: Entering Grid Stalker Territory &mdash 10/22/06 - 10:58:53 AM
Unlike, seemingly most, mjers, I don't make my living as a graphic artist :) Since I can't draw, and I'm a US taxpayer, I figure I'd tap into the treasure trove of US government funded images for my art. Any of it can be used legally as long as you give credit to the appropriate agency (except for maybe images produced by the NSA/CIA). The bass is heavy in my headphones, which is what I desired, but not nearly as heavy on my stereo, or in either system in our cars. I think you might find it's nearly just right, if you take it that far, on your stereo. My headphones are biased towards low end response, as I think most cheap (less than $50) ones are. I for sure didn't want to undermine the bass as it's the engine that drives this tune, the canvas upon which the 'florisitas', as my uncles used to call them, are painted. Thanks for checking this out. Your feedback is always appreciated.

very enjoyable. always a sucker for guitar solos. i've been listening to a
few of jeff becks latest albums this past week (a little techno with guitar
over) and i'm hearing some elements of that here. nice! the only thing is
the reverb on the guitar softened the attack, no big thing.

Thanks Vic... &mdash 10/22/06 - 11:15:02 AM
...for checking this out and your critique. There was a definite attempt, however inadequate, to emulate the master, particularly in the first two guitar additions that I made here. I think you're right about the reverb, I was too heavy handed with it, both on the reverb that I added to the original sound bed track, and the reverb I put on some of the guitars.

Nice collab! &mdash 10/21/06 - 02:16:45 PM
Love the musical twist towards the end. The bass rocks! Very nice guitar
solo as well. I would have prefered the sound of the guitar to be less
reverberated or "distant" during the solo. Overall a very nice production.
Sounds like somebody had some fun here:) [ Reply to This ]
Re: Nice Collab &mdash 10/22/06 - 11:22:18 AM
The sound bed is wicked, no? It just blew me away. The bass is omnipotent. Ditto above on the reverb, it's just too much and I wish I'd done it differently. Not sure how to make it sound like it's in a big hall without making it sound too thin. One of the many production mysteries I'm still trying to sort out. And this really was a load of fun. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Shredding &mdash 10/21/06 - 02:56:15 PM
This is really some cool lead guitar, AquilA, and as you know I really dig the guitar tones you've got going on here. I thought the bass was fine in these speakers, except a bit too loud during the groove change about halfway through. I managed to crank Hector's bass way up by EQing down a few select, boomy frequencies; you might give that a shot. Not that it bothered me, I think this is a killer jam! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks PV &mdash 10/22/06 - 11:28:13 AM
I was trying my best here to be tasty, hope that came across. The PODxt is a cornucopia of tones and I'm starting to get a grip on using it. It's those different tones that gave me the idea for the song name. You're right on the bass, I think that would have been a great idea. Wish I had thought of it :) Thanks again for 'lendig me your ears'. I followed what you said in the end and added the rhythm guitar to the funky portion to add some colour. Also added a light melody for a little more flavor too. It made more sense after the rhythm was added. Gracias amigo.

But the guitar is excellent! Richness! [ Reply to This ]
re: Meaty &mdash 10/23/06 - 08:23:03 PM
Thanks. Almost posted this as 'Fusion', mainly because it seemed like an
amalgamation of different styles, but I thought some true blue Jazz folks might
go into a tizzy over that so I decided to post as 'Progressive Rock'. Probably
would have posted it as 'Funk Rock' if there was such a genre here. Thanks for
listening and commenting.

Unique, unexpectedly different... junkie wouldn't understand when trippin... junkie rhymes with funky... I pulled it out of my backside and it's pretty stupid on my part. Like I always end up with my foot on my keyboard (in my mouth) so I'll quit trying to be fancy with my words.
Hope I didn't offend... I personally don't know any junkies... but if your out there... I'm really sorry. Hope you get your life straightened out.

Hell, i thought the opening drum riff was great, and then the funkin' guitar kicked in. Lovely bouncing tune, and the guitar is great - reminds me a little of Fripp. Good structure and some nice breaks - top stuff.

I gotta give it another listen before I really comment, but I can say that there is nice guitar playing in here, and the bass is really moving the track forward. To me, the most interesting musical moment came at the outro of the song - very nicely woven together. Will have more comments later.
